Anyone else getting a Justin Williams vibe from Jordan Weal? My mancrush on this kid is getting unbelievable.

Mersch too of course, and glad to hear Forbort getting some love from those who keep seeing it live.

Getting an injection of youth on this team is going to be clutch...and hunger.

Also love these quotes from Sutter:

"On what has stood out in training camp:
I think there’s good competition. I think if you look at the past three or four years – four years for sure – there hasn’t been a lot of competition at training camp. It’s basically been pretty much in stone what your roster was because there wasn’t much turnover, and there’s opportunities for guys, but at the same time, there are returning veterans, returning star players, elite players. We need to really step their game up when the season starts. They have to build towards that."

And friggin lol

"On three-on-three overtime:
I like it because I think it’ll get decided before the shootout. I think there’s a better opportunity for it to be decided – and we saw it last night, too – that I think there will be penalties three-on-three, which means that there’s probably more power plays in a three-on-three situation than there would be in a four-on-four. [Reporter: Drew said he loved it because it was fun, too, just being a part of it, and I think that helps from a players standpoint, doesn’t it?] Fun is winning. You can make that point to him."

Rough night for Lucic. He looked uncomfortable all game. I hope he cleans it up before camp is over.

Literally his first Kings game action and all the vets are rusty as per quotes and reports. I'm not sweating any of the vets until the first game and even then.

Edit: I also don't think he plays a preseason-friendly style of game, he's an axe murderer.

I hope Weal becomes a successful NHL player with the Kings. The kid has paid his dues.

Asking Lucic to play a pre-season game is like asking Leatherface to swing a butter-knife above his head.

We have to face the real possibility we may have a Tyler Johnson/Johnny Gaudreau magnitude FW in Jordan Weal.

Only problem is, if he scores too much, Sutter may figure he's not a King's-style player and sit him.

Had this mancrush last summer already.

Hopefully Weal will get some NHL minutes next season. Dont want to jump on the bandwagon but those hands look so smooth. Right now I just cant believe he wont succeed in the NHL.

He is the #1 prospect in the system.

I have been saying this all summer...Weal is the player to watch.

Kings would be stupid to let Lewis, a pending UFA, or Shore, who doesn't have much upside other than a 3rd line center and hasn't proven he can even be a 4th line Center, to take precedent over the most talented kid in the organization who has top 6 potential.

I met Paul Bissonette a few months back in LA and he told me Weal is the best prospect straight up.

Also, I know I am biased because I like Andreoff, but he looks good. I sat front row at the game tonight.

:handclap:

It was nice seeing him slowly acclimate to the pros. The talent was always evident as he just absolutely destroyed juniors even after Eberle left...he's got nothing left to do but play in the NHL, and that highlight is a good example..I'm just also picking up things I wasn't able to before about his attitude. Dude is the ultimate teammate, always defers to others like Williams, yet is seething a quiet focus/intensity.

Fun watching him and O'Neill just buzzsaw through much larger players. They aren't going to outmuscle anyone but it's evident there's no quit there. Look at the play Weal makes just to get out of the corner and get a puck on net (nearly a pass to O'Neill even wearing two Coyotes). Then he just plants in front.

I just have to believe if he's not on the roster, it's because he's traded. It's not just because he can't stop scoring, it's heart and effort, and as I think it was DL said, he won't be denied.

Kings are long overdue for injecting some young not named Toffoli or Pearson.

King-Lewis-Brown is a just a boring line.

Clifford-Shore-Weal or Clifford-Weal-Andreoff would be something fun to watch.

Or putting him in a position to score like Tyler Johnson/Johnny Gaudreau were. Might be hard playing 4th line minutes and I do hope he give him the same shot as Toffoli was given, but with Sutter, you never know.

Sutter should play Weal in all exhibition games, push him to see how he performs and how well he can play with a variety of teammates. It could also give them the option to experiment with him as a winger.

Remind me who gave King, Nolan, Voynov, Muzzin, Toffoli, and Pearson their shots?

C'mon guys, if Sutter thinks playing a kid gives the team the best chance to win, the kid plays.

Anyone here really think Weal should supplant any of our current top six? Yeah, didn't think so.

Faceoffs sucked all night for sure.

But I look forward to Kopi Lucucicici Gaby.
Hoping Lucic can force Kopi to score a few more by feeding Him pucks off the boards. They looked nice a few times tonight.

Weal was mediocre to alright, but didn't stand out :(
Knew he was gonna get that tip in during the 3 on 3 though. He headed in and got in front of the net real good like.

Also... that game tieing goal... Granted it's a 2 on 1, but Muzzin needed to handle that pass. That's his one job

I would guess Sutter thinks having a 3rd line focused on defense at the cost of offense helps win games, based on past observations. Right or wrong that puts Weal in a difficult spot. Obviously he's not bumping someone out of the top 6 so that leaves Weal in the bottom 6 where Sutter is looking for defense/grit. Now maybe Sutter makes some adjustments... maybe it takes some time... maybe it takes an injury or 2 for Weal to get a shot... Weal just needs to keep playing his heart out, because King/Lewis/Brown isn't going to be pretty. In fact I'm still awake because King/Lewis/Brown is giving me nightmares!!!!

Then the problem is (with a healthy line up) if you put Weal on the 3rd line. One of King/Lewis/Brown ends up on the 4th.

Edit: Weal needs to be on the team based on OT and shootouts alone. Now where to put him.... Get on it Sutter!

Yeah I wasn't impressed with Weal until ot. O'Neill was far more impressive to me. He's just tiny.

I was thinking this exact same thing about halfway through game. It's just one night though. He had a couple chances though. He wasn't the steam roller I'll expect to be during the regular season. Just feeling his way for now and getting used to new system.

Me and you think alike. When the won the cup, some of this thinking was in place, and they rolled with it. However, times have changed, and he at least needs to see how this looks. And quite often. Guys like Lewis King Nolan Clifford Brown along with guys like Weal Andreoff Shore need to be healthy scratches at times. You see some baseball managers over time get all their players in th mix. It's healthy for the team. Creates a little friendly pressure to be on top of your game. The same can be said about some of our D core. Greene played 82 games last year. Are u kidding me!!

I didn't really notice Weal the whole night. I did notice Mersch making plays on a number of occasions.

I don't know about the King/Lewis/Brown line long term but I thought they did a great job forechecking last night. If any one of them could finish (particularly Brown), they would've had a goal or two.

Ehrhoff didn't impress me especially taking two penalties.

That guy Auger is really tall. At least it looked like it from where I was watching on the radio.

The Kings pretty much owned the game even though they took a thousand penalties. Oh and their power play sucks!
