I think we need to be more patient with Laine. I mean if you get a great offer sure.

But he has more than just the PP shot. For sure he'll have to be good enough defensively too when he's all the way back though.

Would be great if we could get a 1st for Matheson though. And then either sign a good top pair UFA RD, or package the first we get for Matheson to get a top pair RD. The Flames have 2 1sts in the next two drafts and are looking for an offensive LD.
I overracted with Laine , It's just that hes moveable if the offer is good.

Man this team is brutal
this team is what it was supposed to be.
They dont have the legs to sustain the effort that led to their winning streak and they dont have the talent to win on half the legs they currently have especially when their number one d is out

Lots of negativity here today. Wait till tomorrow. You aint seen nuttin yet.
Ok I decided to turn it around for the team:

I will not eat anything until Habs score another goal.
- I ate 6.5 hours ago. Tomorrow's game starts in 18.5 hours. So at bare minimum thats 25 hours of not eating.

But WHEN the Habs score... And they WILL.. I will be eating anything and everything. My wife is making sausage soup tomorrow (siskonmakkarakeitto), so I will start with that. Then I move on to some cereal. Then some proteim bars. Then some apples. Then some lollipops dipped in popping candy powder. Finish it off with some chewing gum.

Was it a good idea to visualize all that in my head just before going to sleep while I was already starving. Definitely not. Is this "hunger strike for Habs" needed and worth it? Absolutely yes.

Tomorrow we will win. Tomorrow we will at least score one goal, so that I can eat.

Who is with me?? Lets #HungerStrike4Habs

Would probably be the case if we wouldn't have that somehow lucky stretch

Come on now. Marty's never finished below ,400. Not in the 37 games he had in the second half of 21-22 (,400), not in 22-23 (,414), nor in 23-24 (,463), nor this season (,500). There seems to be a constant progression, despite not getting much talent injected in the team over the last 3 years.

When Dushit left, the team was ,259

We only have 3 top 6 forwards

Not sure how to fix this without rebuilding another 3-4 years tbh

Our top six forwards:

- the 3 you speak of: Caufield, Suzuki, Laine
- 3 on the way (hopefully): Demidov, Slaf, Dach.
- plus Hage on the way

I think Hughes will try to get a 2c this summer - and a top pair RD. That's a lot to get in one summer. Will be intersting to see where our 1st and the Calgary 1st are, plus what Hughes gets for Savard, Evans, Armia, Dvo, and maybe Matheson. Could be a lot of ammo to get that 2c and 1st pair RD... Cozens and Dobson are available, but will cost a lot. Too bad Hughes wasn't GM when Jack Eichel was available...

The clear core is emerging. The above listed assets plus the pieces currenty in place can be used to upgrade:

Caufield - Suzuki - Slaf
Laine - Dach/Hage - Demidov
Heineman - Evans - Armia/Gallagher
Newhook - Beck -Anderson
Roy, Kapanen, Mesar, Davidson, etc...

Hutson - Matheson/Reinbacher
Guhle - Carrier
Xhekaj - Mailloux
Struble, Engstrom, Bogdan

Fowler
Montembault/Dobes

Dach is not a top 6 player on a cup contender, so hopefully we get someone else soon

Hage is promising

I don’t know what to think of Slaf tbh

Man did Florida and Vegas ever step up on the trade front to build their core. Expect Hughes and Gorton to use picks, prospects and roster players to do the same:

Vegas:
- Jack Eichel
- Mark Stone
- Hertl
- Barbashev
- Pietrangelo

Panthers:
- Matthew Tkachuk
- Sam Reinhart
- Carter Verhaeghe
- Sam Bennett
- Forsling
- Bobrovsky

(And not all of them worked out: example suzuki for Pacioretty)

(But having the assets is why I would have drafted Cole Hutson in the second round. Even if he can't play on the same roster - which I didn't take as a foregone conclusion - he could be a good trade chip down the line).

If you want to throw in the towel on Dach, does Dach + Our 1st or the Calgary 1st + ? get you Cozens or Dobson?

IMO those player would place here in a cup contenter team:

xxx - xxx - Caufield
Slafkovsky - Suzuki - xxx
Heineman - xxx - Dach
xxx - Evans - Armia

Hutson - xxx
Ghule - xxx
Xhekaj - Carrier

xxx
Dobes

You potentially can fill some of those spots with Demidov, Hage, Roy, Kapanen, Beck, Davison, Tuch, F.Xhekaj, Reinbacher, Mailloux and Fowler in the upcoming years but all prospect hitting their ceiling is never what happens in reality.

One of Newhook or Laine might be a solution on the wing, but I would prefer other options.

So I think team is missing 1 center (1A/B type to even the load with Suzuki, doesn’t have to be a franchise center), 2 top 6 winger (1 has to be elite), 1 top pair defenseman (preferably a #1 defenseman), another top 4 RH defenseman and one solid two way C for the 3rd line. Would like some gritty winger too on the 4th line. And a reliable #1 goaltender.
