In the long term yes, but Dach isn't going to forget to play C if he spends like 4-6 weeks with Suzuki and Caufield and he's already a pretty refined center, it's not like he's otherwise new to the position.

I don't really care too much either way as I don't think Newhook is going to be a C for us long term either but I wouldn't be surprised at all if we started the year with Caufield/Suzuki/Dach and Slafkovsky/Newhook/Anderson as the top 2 lines.
On the other hand, the quest to find a linemate for Suzufield seems very difficult, but we know Dach was very successful with them. And he is big. So.... if Newhook really gets new wings with us at 2C, in that light I could envision Dach as a winger with the infernal duo.

But I would try Roy first with Suzufield. Just to see....

I agree with you. The man played an entire tournament with Bedard for a reason, even in OT vs SLovakia.

He thinks the game at an elite level and is responsible defensibly. I wouldn't rule out Roy starting the season on that top line.

Slafkovsky-Newhook-Anderson
Pezzetta-Stephens-Farrell
Roy-Beck-Ylonen
Simoneau-Condotta-Légaré

Guhle-Reinbacher
Harris-Mailloux
Xhekaj-Barron

Montembeault
Dobes

The 1st preseason game is usually one of the worst line-up but since we have so many interesting prospects, even this one should be fun, load of things to follow.

First game for Roy, Reinbacher, Mailloux.
First game since their injury for Slaf and Xhekaj
First game in a Habs jersey for Newhook.

So guys who weren't in the scrimmage yesterday will play tonight. Maybe some who did play yesterday will play today, particularly those who are fighting for spots or contracts.

These are the players who weren't there yesterday:

D: Guhle, Barron, Mailloux, Reinbacher, Harris, Xhekaj, Demin (invite), Laaouan (AHL deal) & Ortiz (AHL deal).

F: Anderson, Slafkovsky, Newhook, Roy, Simoneau, Pezzetta, Beck, Farrell, Ylonen, Legare, Stephens, Condotta, Dufort (invite), Novak (AHL deal), Voyer (AHL deal), Yaremko (AHL deal)

G: Montembeault, Dobes & Vrbetic

In Reinbacher's case, if we're to go by what Gorton said at the golf tournament, maybe he'll get a preseason game in and most likely sent back to Kloten. So maybe he'll play tonight and after the game, they loan him back to his European team.
Send him back for some good home cooking. Maybe he can hit 240 lbs before next camp.

He's too smart for me not to figure it all out.

He will go to the AHL to learn this because he will be afforded to do that, in years past he probably would be one of the few future options to play and have to try to figure it out on the 4th line and be benched by Therrien/Julien.

The difference for me will be, can he progress and grow enough to be a top 6 player or will he have to invent himself a bit more to be a 3rd liner because as we've seen internationally, he's defensively reliable on PK and defending leads. So he has the capacity to play more than an offensive role.

Really interesting game for once. After all those years watching line-up with very few talent and barely any exciting name in preseason this one feels way different.

All six defensemen are under 23 years old, all good skaters with some offensive talent.

A line with Roy, Beck and Ylonen. Slafkovsky playing with Newhook and Anderson.

There’s quite a few things to look at tonight.

Dobes might get half the game too

It's an AHL game, but a really exciting one!

I know “it’s only preseason”, but those are very interesting lineups for the first game of the preseason calendar, so I’ll be there. Even with the Devils bringing a split squad (with half the team playing against the Flyers at the same time), we’ll still get to see Nemec, Hughes, Toffoli and… Kinkaid!
