All you guys who thought this team was bad defensively the last few years had no idea what bad defense looks like.

All you guys who hated the bottom six the last few years, also had no idea what an actually bad bottom six lookked like. You wanted grit and face punchers but you forgot that they actually need to play hockey. Next time you evauluate a big tough player, ask yourself if he'd still be a good NHL player if he didn't fight. Prime Wayne Simmonds was a great fighter but also put up 30 goal seasons. Ben Chariot if he didn't fight would just be a worse version of Cody Ceci.

That said:

- This is the best game I've seen from the Reaves-Kampf-Gregor line which is saying a lot because they still were on the ice for yet another goal.
- Robertson-Domi-Jarnkrok didn't look good early in the game but it got better later on, I'm willing to give it a few more games. If it doesn't work, I'd like to see Marner moved down there to see if he can get them going; Marner has a history of turning bad lines into good ones.
- A rare game where both Domi and Bertuzzi contributed, maybe its a sign of things to come, I dunno, just trying to stay positive.
- Didn't like the 3rd goal Woll gave up

We have hired the best of the best staff wise
All these hockey experts and we still can’t build a competitive team for how many decades?

I remember 20 years ago we were arguing that we don’t have a starting goalie, our defence is aweful and soft

So many experts came in and tried and were still talking about the exact same issues?
We have never had a legit starting goalie in 2 decades like wtf!!

They’re not play any defensive system and it’s getting worse. Keefe needs to go because that’s on the coach Imho. They’ll never win playing without any resemblance of structure

Welp, congrats everyone, we're basically the Edmonton Oilers.

Goaltending sucks.

Defense sucks (Klingberg might the worst defensemen I've seen on this team in years).

No offensive depth.

Special teams suck.

This is easily the worst iteration of the Leafs in years. Imagine what this team's record would be if Matthews or Nylander were injured?

I said it in the other thread.

Take Matthews and Nylander off this team and we got another Horachek.

He wasn't to blame for any of the goals tonight. Some of them were shot really hard.
I wonder what other goalies think when Matthews or nylander shot 90+ mph shots

Woll let in 3 goals that would make me quit on nhl 23. The defence was awful for 2 of the others and 1 own goal by gio.

Just not even close to good enough

Matthews, Marner and (likely soon to be) Nylander are the reason the rest of this lineup is inept. Took everything for themselves, left nothing for anyone else. Reap what you sow, losers.
I mean. Add up the money we spent on some of these other guys.. it’s not pretty. Asset management is poor all around

I maintain that signing Tavares and then Marleau were two significant mistakes. The Leafs could have built themselves up in due time. Continued to amass prospects and build the flow of talent. Instead they rushed. Wasted picks and prospects in trades that got them nowhere.

Sucks to be here now.

Well, we actually spent over $14 million on Reaves, Klingberg, Domi and Bertuzzi. So the good news is there will be money to do things this offseason.

The bad news is we might be the ones falling out of a playoff spot and probably want to be smart with asset management to set ourselves up for the next couple of years. I'd rather they pull the plug on this year than try to fix everything with this roster by depleting the picks and prospects we still have left.

How bout the 6th?

Im still telling it, leafs need to do everything they can for noah hanifin and extend him like 8 year around 6,5M... if they need to give exemple a 1st and minten just do it... leafs will never be a serious contender until they fix that huge problem

They need so much that guy who can play behing rielly and create a stability in this D. Right now the only d playing i the good spot is rielly... its hard look fine when 5 of your 6 D dont play where they should...

I mean, no he wasn't. He was an NHL goaltender. He didn't do anything really highlight reel at all.

Our standards for goaltending are just in the toilet.

To a degree but he definitely made some great saves on Matthews and Willy in the first and second and tracked the puck well through traffic in the 3rd.

The Shanaplan hasn't worked.
