Maybe.
Pontus Holmberg has lotsa pro experience, has played and produced well, and has a strong PO track record in the Swedish league (iirc he was the playoff mvp two years back?)

I don't know if Holl is getting traded. Maybe just added to the depth group.

But those are the defense pairs I expect as well.

Yeah because Holl hasn't been traded yet, or healthy scratched once Schenn pencils in

McCabe and Brodie does look like a nice pairing though. They've got some nice options with the pairings

We have enough left to get a 2LW and bump Jarnkrok down with Tavares. Kerfoot probably goes the other way for cap and Acciari gets bumped back down to fourth line. If we don’t get an upgrade, run Tavares with grinders like he played with in NYI for some greasy goals and swap him with Jarnkrok every couple of shifts after an icing with a tired opponent on the ice.

It’ll be interesting to see how it shakes out, we have so many guys that play multiple forward positions that we can drop for unexpected double shifts in the bottom-6 to take advantage of mismatches.

Bunting - Matthews - Marner
Jarnkrok - O'Reilly - Nylander
Kerfoot - Tavares - Acciari/Lafferty
ZAR - Kampf - Lafferty/Acciari.

McCabe - Brodie
Gio - Lily
Rielly - Holl/Schenn
 
We need another top 9 (ideally top 6) winger.

Toffoli would be a perfect fit imo.

Toffoli-Tavares-Nylander
Knies-ROR-Jarnkrok
Lafferty-Kampf-Acciari

Ideally Knies shows he can play top 6 and we roll for the playoffs:

I don’t think any of them are being traded. After the deadline rosters expand and we can call up a forward. Gus fills in for any injury to Rielly and Holl fills in for anyone else. Timmins doesn’t get in baring multiple injuries but is kept for next season.
 
Some still want to move Kerfoot. Since we got 6 hours to puck drop, I'll play along and add Jarnkrok.

I would like to see McCabe-Brodie as shutdown line and see if that looks good on the ice as it does on paper.

Gio and Lily are a natural fit together and your likely 3rd pairing

That leaves Rielly and maybe Schenn. They balance eachother. That Canucks fan said Schenn plays well with a good skater/puck mover.

Keefe has some work to do to see what fits here

Holl/Gustafsson/Timmins are your depth pieces for a deep run. You will eventually need them.

Have you not heard the scouting report of Gustafsson? He can both take over games or lose you games because he is incredibly irresponsible in his own end. He also is soft as f*** and doesnt hit. He's basically Jake Gardiner the sequel. And Jake's family ended up getting death threats for how well that worked out...remember?

Schenn will punish people who want to get to our net and along the boards. He is the leader in hits in the league. Almost double our team's hit leader before all these trades.

Schenn > Gustaffson right now by far for what we need on the back end.

key point. which is why Schenn likely has the edge in that top 6. We need 3 solid pairings for the playoffs.

There will be a rotation of D with the depth now. Gio probably won't play back to backs. It wouldn't surprise me if he comes out vs Calgary to get some rest.

I think we can get Bunting and ROR for cheaper if we give some nice term

I think Kampf is gone if he wants over $2mil, and we keep Jarnkrok instead.

Either way, looks feasible to keep a very similar roster.

Gustafsson shots left and Schenn shoots right so if each player plays on their natural side then there is more room for a RHD then a lefty.

I'd also like to see this. In the playoffs, ideally Schenn would be sheltered a little bit with Liljegren or Brodie taking extra shifts with Rielly here and there.

I thinketh that tavares, our more productive captain than RoR will play with Nylander no matter what. Tavares is just offensively more productive, so thats the key milord
