I think it goes without saying that there's more to hockey than advanced stats.Aren't their advanced stats excellent when paired together.

Tampa won by NOT playing him in 2 finals. Tampa won by limiting his minutes to 10 or so on average in the 19 of the 49 games he managed to dress for....most were for injury replacementBut holl in makes them a cup winner? your faded bro
I dislike it if he is going to play every game.Really struggling to comprehend how anyone can dislike this trade. Schenn is a 6/7th D with size, grit, and strong defensive play. He can rotate in depending on the matchups and play of those in front of him.
Why bother discussing his play from years back? Especially since he's been very solid for Vancouver and should play his role for us quite nicely.
That's how they go I'm sure with him. He finna hit some and fight some noses off. Even get suspended, but thats exactly what we WANT. HIM to take other players out the game and bruise them hard. Then we will play with our other talented players whom we',ll now have. We are going to win the cup easily this time. Others might be jelious to js, but dont be alarmed. Its a death sin.I dislike it if he is going to play every game.
Situational usage occasionally based on opponent? Sure.....
I don't understand these changes after O'Reilly. That lineup after O'Reilly trade is just moving sideways while throwing picks away (actually got much worse for the non-O'reilly parts if sandin hits his potential). Should have just saved the picks and went with just O'Reilly if we weren't getting another impact guy.

If you think the Leafs D was not improved acquiring McCabe I am not sure what to say.I don't understand these changes after O'Reilly. Maybe after 5 years of wasting the core with just inserting the tip, the time was right to go all in.I don't understand these changes after O'Reilly. Matthews hasn't been making it work on his own - he benefits greatly from having either Mitch or Willy feed him. Many will disagree with my proposed lines. I'm in favour of masking our first line. Make the opponent decided when to put out their shutdown line:

Michael Bunting
Auston Matthews
Sam Lafferty

Calle Jarnkrok
John Tavares
Mitch Marner

Alexander Kerfoot
Ryan O'Reilly
William Nylander

Pierre Engvall
Noel Acciari
David Kampf

Matthews can make it work on his own. The Marner, Tavares, Jarnkrok line has looked good, O'Reilly, Kerfoot, Nylander has play-making, scoring and elements of a 200 foot game, 4th line is rockin' with Acciari, Engvall, and Kampf.

Basically this deadline we got O’Reilly for picks and upgraded from Sandin to McCabe. This is really the only major improvement I see.I don't understand these changes after O'Reilly. But I would personally have it as of right now:
Bunting - Matthews - Marner/Willy
Tavaras - O'Reilly - Willy/Marner
Kerfoot - Kampf - Engvall/Jarnkrok
Lafferty - Acairri - ZAR
Knies, (Engvall/Jarnkrok), Simmonds
Rielly - Brodie
McCabe - Lilygren
Gio - Holl/Timmins
Sandin, Benn (Sandin could easily replace Holl/Timmins if they falter but doesn't play well on his right side and Holls better at PK)
Murray/Samsonov (whoever's running hot and healthy)
Woll, Kallgren
Thinking we run this line up for a few games and experiment with chemistry.
3rd and 4th line minutes are split depending on which line is more effect in shutting teams down ("do we have to be physical defensive or skillfully defense today?" Both are fast either way)
Lafferty on 3rd line and Gus instead of LukeGame 1 against Tampa:
Bunting - Matthews - Marner
Tavares - O’Reilly - Nylander
Knies/ZAR - Acciari - Kerfoot
Jarnkrok - Kampf - Lafferty
Extras:
- McMann, Holmberg, Simmonds, Hunt, Clifford, Steeves
McCabe - Brodie
Rielly - Schenn
Giordano - Liljegren
Extras:
- Gustafsson, Holl, Timmins, Benn
Samsonov
Murray
Extra:
- Woll
* Low minutes for Schenn
Rielly has always seemed to have chemistry with a stay at home defenseman, Gustafsson is the opposite, he's like Rielly; we've all seen the Rielly-Sandin & Rielly-Barrie experiments... I could see him being in but not regularly alongside Rielly, on seperate pairs but maybe together if it's an offensive zone draw.Lafferty on 3rd line and Gus instead of Luke
Not sure what's the obsession about Luke when we have so many capable/ useful d-men?
I would say that those changes are not minor. In my view what is going on in tml front office is that they are trying to improve special teams.Basically this deadline we got O’Reilly for picks and upgraded from Sandin to McCabe. This is really the only major improvement I see.
Schenn as a 6th/7th D could be good, but I consider this a minor improvement since Holl is a pretty decent #6 D in his own right. It’s a decent add and he could perform but it’s more of a depth guy imo.
Lafferty and Accarai are the new toys and may prove to be upgrades on Engvall, Holmberg, McMann, Anderson, etc but I don’t think it’s an earth shattering difference here. It’s replacement level parts for replacement level parts with slightly more edge. But if Lafferty gets a short handed goal in the playoffs and these guys add to the character of the room it’s a win.
So in essence,
1. Add O’Reilly
2. Upgrade from Sandin to McCabe.
3. Swap out depth guys for slightly more physical depth guys.
