I'd flip our top 6 a bit

Tavares - Matthews - Marner (2 shooters, so, teams can't focus on Matthews)
Bunting - O’Reilly - Nylander (this line would be a royal pain to play against)
Kerfoot- Kampf - Jarnkrok (all defense with limited offense, time eaters supreme)
ZAR - Acciari - Lafferty (tough as nails to play against)

Rielly - Brodie (they know each other, and we need some stability)
McCabe - Liljegren (#1 defensive unit)
Giordano - Schenn/Holl (Limited mins, to get the most out of them)

this also gives us 2 players on every line that can win draws (Nylander is pretty good)

Not bad, although that 3rd line sticks out like a sore thumb.

That 3rd line get a big 'yuck' from me.
That needs to change by Friday.

Is it safe to say that barring injuries, Timmins has probably played his last game this season?

So we are counting Murray's contract even if he was on LTIR but is projected to come back?
No idea, I let Dubas worry about the cap.
All I know is you have to be compliant, how they do that is a mystery.

we could always flip Lafferty and Kerfoot to give the 3rd line some grit, and the 4th better puck possession, but, i think our weakest player is actually ZAR, he does a lot of nothing, and has worse hands than Kerfoot.

I’d like to see one more piece brought in to bring some more scoring depth on the 3rd line. You need 3 lines to score in the playoffs. I don’t have faith in kerfoot kampf jarnkrok doing that.

Keep Kerfoot and Holl as they are valuable players and each a big part of the dressing room. Get some assets for Gustafsson

Bunting Matthews Marner
Jarnkrok Tavares Nylander
Kerfoot O’Reilly XXX
Lafferty/ZAR/Knies Kampf Acciari

McCabe Brodie
Giodano Liljegren
Rielly Schenn/Holl (Have Brodie and Liljegren double shift periodically to keep our #6’s playing time down)

XXX could be Bertuzzi, Perron, Konecny, Henrique, Vatrano, Sheary, Jenner, Domi, Crouse

Lots of options to make it happen

Realistically we’re going to end up with Tavares back at C like Keefe said would happen eventually, but I’m not sure I like any of the left winger combos in that scenario.

Bunting-Matthews-Marner
Jarnkrok-O’Rielly-Nylander
Acciari-Tavares-Lafferty
Kerfoot?-Kampf-ZAR/Holmberg/McMann

We have enough left to get a 2LW and bump Jarnkrok down with Tavares. Kerfoot probably goes the other way for cap and Acciari gets bumped back down to fourth line. If we don’t get an upgrade, run Tavares with grinders like he played with in NYI for some greasy goals and swap him with Jarnkrok every couple of shifts after an icing with a tired opponent on the ice.

It’ll be interesting to see how it shakes out, we have so many guys that play multiple forward positions that we can drop for unexpected double shifts in the bottom-6 to take advantage of mismatches.

Maybe bring in a guy like Bobby McMann who has some skill and grit. The downside is he has zero NHL playoff experience.

Agreed. The third line was not good enough before and Kerfoot in for engvall is a lateral move in most ways. They still need something there.

McMann is not really an option at this point in this career.
