The bullpen has been largely awesome this year, especially considering the workload, but unfortunately the injury call ups have been atrocius. At the moment, the only fill-in reliever to be a positive contributor is Mayza in his 1.2ip.

(war here as always is an average of fwar and ra9war):

Top-7

RH Osuna (22): 54gms, 52.0ip, 34.5k%/3.5b%, 70era-, 34fip-, 57xfip-, 2.6war/65ip
*RH Smith (33): 38gms, 35.2ip, 35.4k%/6.9b%, 74era-, 52fip-, 56xfip-, 1.6war/65

Hopefully Mayza can step it up and fill in for Smith, and balance out the pen with 2 lefties in the process.

Though I'm on board the Carlos Ramirez train as well. The guy is just destroying it this year.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is really good at baseball.

Need Bo back healthy to fulfill the duel top ten prospect prediction.

Though I think the only ranking that us a chance of happening on is BBA.

Absolutely. It's hard to believe he's thrown less than 150 innings in his life. Like... this isn't one of those guys who pitched as a teenager, played professionally as a position player, then switched back to pitching. He had never pitched at any level of baseball until 2014, and now just three years later he's completely dominating AA and AAA hitters, and it's especially impressive given the plummeting walk rate.

It's hard to put a ceiling on a guy who has so much success so quickly. I want to see a September call-up because he could be a high-leverage guy really soon.

Righties are batting .056 against him this year.

for all the talk about the older guys diminishing, it's the injuries to prime guys like Donaldson, Sanchez, and Travis which really killed us this year.

Pretty much.

Losing the 2015 MVP and the 2016 ERA leader for half/all of the season is going to kill any team. They're the team's best two players.

The Sanchez injury in particular has been devastating because of how little SP depth there is in the organization. Taking 20 Sanchez starts and replacing them with 20 starts from Bolsinger/Tepesch/Latos/Valdez etc. has probably cost the team at least 5 wins. Add those 5 wins and the team is leading the WC chase.

Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette has done nothing but hit since entering pro ball as a second-round pick last year. He batted .427/.451/.732 in 22 games in the Rookie-level Gulf Coast League during his debut, and he's raking at a .372/.433/.570 clip between two Class A stops in his first full season. Bichette is just 19, yet he leads the Minors in hitting, 15 points ahead of Yankees first baseman Garrett Cooper.

It has been 51 years since a teenager won the Minor League batting championship. The last one was Phillies outfielder Gil Torres, who hit .365 for a Class A Spartanburg club that went 91-35 and featured six future big leaguers, most notably Larry Bowa. Torres topped out in Double-A and batted just .254 in the remaining five years of his career.

Callis' (weirdly requested) all prospect lineup;

Question: What would your prospect lineup (including a designated hitter and left-handed and right-handed pitchers) with the highest upside look like, if you could pick no more than one player from each system and could use each ranking slot just once? In other words, if you choose Nationals No. 1 prospect Victor Robles, you can't have Red Sox No. 1 prospect Rafael Devers.

Here's what I came up with:
C: Jake Rogers (Astros' No. 11)
1B: Peter Alonso (Mets' No. 10)
2B: Keston Hiura (Brewers' No. 5, MLB No. 92)
3B: Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (Blue Jays' No. 1, MLB No. 6)
SS: Kevin Maitan (Braves' No. 6, MLB No. 44)
OF: Taylor Trammell (Reds' No. 3, MLB No. 77)
OF: Estevan Florial (Yankees' No. 4, MLB No. 88)
OF: Adam Haseley (Phillies' No. 7, MLB No. 98)
DH: Marcus Wilson (D-backs' No. 8)
LHP: A.J. Puk (Athletics' No. 2, MLB No. 39)
RHP: Alec Hansen (White Sox No. 9)

Could have took any team's #1 prospect and took Vlad.

I think he will unless Moncada, Rosario or Devers count as prospects which i doubt.

The next 5 are Torres, Robles, Vlad, Jimenez and Acuna. I cant see Torres being #1 coming off TJS.

What Vlad is doing at his age is remarkable. I see it as Vlad, Acuna and Robles top 3. I could easily Acuna being #1 too.

I know very little about other teams prospects but Acuna has great numbers for his age.

Knowing this team and the season they've had they will win the first two games of the series, then on the third game when they can reach .500 they'll lose.

I hope I'm wrong, and if I just jinxed them I'm really really sorry.

Id gladly take 2 out of 3 from the defending WS champs. I am just hoping for 1 considering we are facing Arrieta, Hendricks and Quintana. Plus we dont have Stroman go for us this series and we got Tepesch pitching a game. I would gladly take 2 - realistically hoping for 1.

Only 1 does not help us. That's 3 more games off the sched and they would be 4 games under. Team needs to get really hot. Win a bunch of series in a row, at least.

I know but im trying to be realistic with my expectations when we face one of the best teams in the league. I would love to sweep the Cubs be we know that isnt happening.

And if they lose one it doesnt guarantee they go back a game - matters what the guys ahead of them do.

So would I. My comment was more based on the fact that this team has gone something ridiculous like 0-8 in games that would have brought them to .500
