actually his season was looking solid before the injury. all his fips lijed up nicely and they werr paired with a great groundball rate. he's gonna be solid imo. what we hoped we were getting sith mcguire/jenkins but actually for real this time.

Deck McGuire was better in Dunedin than Zeuch is right now, so you are getting way ahead of yourself by proclaiming that he has already surpassed McGuire. There is plenty of time for Zeuch to fail just like McGuire did in AA.

The lack of strikeouts for a guy who we knew had "average" secondary pitches out of College is absolutely concerning. It is incredibly hard to make it as a groundball-only specialist because it requires an elite-level talent in that skill at the MLB level. Zeuch's groundball rates are elite...in High A. Whether or not that will continue top translate has yet to be seen, but guys who can't miss bats typically don't have very high MLB ceilings.

If he continues to hit for the rest of August, would love to see Rowdy Tellez get the call for September. Dude has had an awful year with his mother having cancer, would be nice to see him get rewarded for having a good August.

Realistically, you'll see the remainder of the 40 man get called up to see what we've got.

Anthony Alford
Dwight Smith Jr.
Harold Ramirez
Teoscar Hernandez
Lourdes Gurriel
Richard Urena
Ryan Borucki

How much we see of any of these guys depends on how close we are to the wild card. If we're within a game or two, you'll only see these guys in blow outs and as pinch runners for the likes of Morales.

Longenhagen really doesnt like Bichette. Had him 10th pre-season and even after one of the best years in the minors he puts him 3rd after Alford. 2nd and 3rd doesnt seems like a huge oversight but Bichette is our undisputed 2nd best prospect. I see Vladdy as 1A and Bichette as 1B.

Either that or he's still really high on Alford, which he should be considering his numbers. I think people are really underrating Alford at this point because of the seasons Bichette and Guerrero have had.

Tellez had a good game again. 1 for 3 a double and 2 walks. No SO.

He hasn't hit a HR since June 27th. That is 171 plate appearances. I mean, that is nothing short of abysmal for a big fat guy who can't run.

I'm glad he's showing something at the plate, but its still not enough. Such is life with 1B/DH prospects.

The only player I don't see getting a call up is Ramirez. He hasn't progressed at all in AA.

Definitely a fair point. He is 22 and first year in AAA. Had to struggle through his mom's battle with cancer. If you don't see a power surge next year then definitely a cause for concern.

I like Alford and his potential too but im always worried about his injuries. Luckily they arent the same injury over and over but it has to be worrisome at some point especially if we are thinking about putting him in a strenuous position like CF.

I think he's just being really conservative in moving guys up and down too quickly, even though the extreme performances this year probably justify it.

For me, i'd be more aggressive in moving guys around. Something like this:

1.Guerrero
2.Bichette
3.Alford
4.Jansen
5.Pearson
6.Warmoth
7.Hernandez
8.Zeuch
9.Maese
10.SRF/Tellez/Urena/Gurriel/McGuire

 here comes the negative poster to ruin all kinds of positivity.

Than again not that its surprising from you.
Good come back for Tellez. Good season for Zeuch. Lets hope they continue doing well:)

I expect they'll add everyone from the 40-man who's relatively close to the majors and having a good season. So Smith, Alford, Hernandez, Borucki. Probably no Gurriel, Urena, or Ramirez at this point.

I would love to see a September promotion for Jansen, but they would have to make room on the 40-man and when they get healthy they'll have five catchers on the roster already.

sure but who cares about maile/lopez/ohlman?

even with this awful first start back from injury, zeuch's fips are considerably better than mcguire's were, and before this last first start back from injury all of Zeuch's era /fip/xfip were about 3.2, as opposed to the 3.8s deck put up. and zeuch pairs that with an elite (yes) 60+% groundball rate, not the flyball pitcher deck was (40gb%).

zeuch's line so far is far more promising than deck's was, though some may have been fooled by deck's era being flukily lower than his peripherals.

eh, Alford's numbers are still only in good territory, not great. by the best news is his K rate staying down all year. but man would it be nice to see some kf his raw power start to show soon.

FG now is predicting that the 2nd WC team would need 82 wins. Has gone from 86, 85, 84, 83 and now 82 in the last 1.5 months. The first WC spot went from 89 to 85 now.

For a guy with speed and good CF defense, I think a .400+ OBP and a 135 wRC+ qualify as "great".

Is Pearson now considered our best pitching prospect? Seems like he's got huge potential.

What does our top 3 pitching prospects look like?
