Our D is not very good that's a given but where are all the goals from our high powered offensive players, I don't care how good they are but you won't score on most goalie's from the perimeter or hitting their crests.
The problem offensively was Laine kept setting up Wheeler and Wheeler kept shooting (poorly, I'll add). Laine had 1 shot. Wheeler had 4.

Someone needs to remind Wheeler he plays with two guys who are vastly better at shooting than him. He needs to be a playmaker on that line.

Until Morrissey starts playing like a legit #1, we will struggle.

He will get it together I have no doubt, but through 9 he has been sub par at best, and with Buff out, we are literally performing one game below .500 without a top pairing Dman.

Kuli looks absolutely horrid, shouldn't be out there, Dalhstrom is right there with him. Neither should be out there, and if you replace them with a Buff and Sami Niku, we are a completely different team.

Poolman has been our most consistent Dman this season, Pionk a close 2nd. Heinola has been solid and our 3rd best D. Morrissey IMO has been our 4rth best Dman this season, that just wont work for us.

I don't see the players quitting on the coach....sometimes their motivation is questionable.
A new coach will only confirm the depth issues and character issues in the locker room.
Who will we blame then. Edmonton tried 5 (?) Different coaches same result.

The new reality.

Buff is missed on PP&PK...don't want him back
Time is needed to gel with 5 key losses of personnel
Cap hockey sucks

Really?

For the first 30 minutes we played like the 17/18 "Pack of wolves" and should have been up 4-0.

They scored, and instead we end up looking like pre 17/18 Jets again. Playing some impressive, inspiring hockey, but no results to show for it, because the Jets are too naive. We have to be much more opportunistic in both ends of the ice - score on the god damn chances (get more guys to the net also), and clean up the defensive breakdowns (which weren't too bad today though).
No finish. It doesn' t matter how much time you spend in their end, you gotta finish. They have 16 seconds on the power play, and they take advantage of our pylon penalty killers and awkward goalie.

Was actually one of the better games I've watched this year. Copp should not be replaced by little at 2C.

PP/PK still ineffective, a direct indictment of coaching.

copp is tearing it up. Your right. Hes on pace for a nice 9-10 goal and 30 point season. Amazing 2C. And the team is winning so many games so we dont want to change much. Copp played good last game so did the line but most was Ehlers driving the line and being the best player in the game. And what is that lines 5v5 results. I don't care about stats aside from how many ES goals? Copp is a 3rd liner with less offensive skill then Little AINEC. Bring up all the stats you want

Difference between quitting and just being a bad hockey team that also has a bad coach

Check all the years, Wheeler production before Laine came.

Not saying its all #29 but last 2 years , jets power play will have Wheeler touch the puck ( its a must). It makea sense he will get the assist.
This is a potent power play with Scheifele and Laine.
Maybe put another passer there? With better shot, maybe result will be the same, ?

While i agree with some current stuff on Wheeler and he is on the decline and since game 2-3 has looked bad. I want him with Little. But lets not downplay Wheelers passing and saying he only pit up points cause Laine and Scheifele. Yes he is prone to some dumb PP plays, but nobody on this team could thread passes like he has on the PP the last 2 years. People are crazy for downplayinf that and pretending those are easy passes. Short memory is bad around here

Helle played a solid game - good enough to win most nights. We need our shooters to be good shooters
Still inconsistent. He was out of position on both goals. The first one, he was too far in the next and took too long to move to the other post. The second goal he simply didn't have the angle.

lol only caring about even strength goals over a short sample size is your problem. That's incredibly short sighted, and frankly dumb, as it doesn't have nearly as good predictive value due to variance.

That line dominated last night and to put Little back in the 2C hole would be a mistake, which our coach will likely make.
Copp has verrrrrrrry little offensive upside/instincts/awareness. He is an effective bottom six player, but he will never drive (or even contribute) to an offensive line.

It was a good way to lose !!! -- I thought the Jet's had the better of the play for the most part and especially in the first period.
Their lack of finish is very frustrating and frankly inexcusable when it becomes a trend (which it has).
Difference was the Islanders goalkeeper only let one by him. The only thing I can see is we're missing that big shot from the point from Buff, Trouba or Myers -- and it's starting to show up. Usually on average we got a goal or so per game from the defenseman last year.
We certainly don't have any boomers from the point, but we had enough chances regardless. We don't have players in front of the goal... we make the other team's goalie look good since they can see virtually every soft shot we take.
Jet's played well though , and Helle made some great saves. We still are a couple of pieces away on our back end right now.
No. They didn't play well. They didn't capitalize on their chances. Hellebuyck made some nice saves, but he looked weak on both goals that beat him.

Enstrom used to get tossed around too, but contributed a lot to preventing goals and wins.

Sjoberg - same thing.

I think Pionk has been better than Morrissey so far this season. That's good news and bad news...
People have poor memories when it comes to Enstrom. He wore the goat horns so often that he started eating tin cans on the bench. I don't remember Sjoberg so much, but that was a different era, and I don't think anybody on our current roster can really compare to him.

Morrissey has had some rough outings, mainly because he has been saddled with an anchor as a defensive partner. He made one mistake yesterday on the dump-in, and Hellebuyck failed to back him up by sieving the shot.

Pionk is just as advertised. Other players own him along the boards and in front of the net. He moves the puck well, but that doesn't translate into a lot of offense. He isn't really that effective at moving the puck out of the Jets' zone, either. And even his assist last night was due to simply handing the puck to Ehlers, who did all the work.

Oh, I guess you mean he wasn't perfect -
My point stands - we didn't lose due to poor goal tending - we couldn't finish
The shooters on this team will need to score more goals - if they do, we will win games like tonight, with tonight's goal tending

As I said before, Morrissey is saddled with a horrible defensive partner while getting the toughest assignments. I feel bad for him.
You are right about Kulikov. He's a sixth defenseman at best.
You are also correct about Dalhastrom.
I disagree about Poolman. He looks way out of his league. I knew he is unable to contribute any offense from the blueline, but he is often slow and out of position.
I also think you give Pionk too much credit. He is constantly pushed around along the boards and in front of the net. I thought he was supposed to be an effective puck-moving defenseman. I've seen it... sometimes.
Finally, Heinola is clearly being rushed into the NHL before he's ready. He may be the physically weakest player in the NHL (which is even worse for a defenseman). He often looks scared. His shot reminds me of Tim Bits hockey... it couldn't tear a hole in single-ply toilet paper. I've seen enough to see that he has good upside, but he shouldn't be getting regular shifts until he's 20.
Nope, the defense is exactly as advertised - horrid.

I've also acknowledged several times that our lack of finish cost us. Sometimes, it would be nice to have our goalie win a game for us, especially against a poor offensive team. Hellebuyck did make some nice saves, but if we switch goalies with New York last night we would have shut out the Islanders.
