Yes he can - but why would you take his clapper off the table by making him the guy that is supposed to be setting the table out there.

I've suggested both Scheif and KC as options that could fill wheels spot and be more effective - both are better puck handlers and shooters.
Wheels can handle KC's low spot and would make a good screen - he's a big dude.
i would prefer a left hand shot in wheelers spot wich allows two 1 time options. would really open up options

We also have quite a few forwards that will do all kinds of pirouettes, sideways jumping, spinning and body contortions to make it look like they couldn't possibly get to that puck in the corner or along the boards first, even when they have 1/2 step or more on the opposing player. They are doing so much gymnastics to avoid being there first when it's clear that it is their puck, it is blatently obvious how they are absolutely petrified about taking a hit. I get it. It's a long season. But it is a contact sport after all. In my day, you'd get benched for doing that sh** even once.

Lets be realistic we are missing at least following guys from 2018 conference final team

Defence
-Buffy
-Trouba
-Myers
-Enstrom
-Chiarot

Each of these guys would be reinforcement for current D

Offence
-Petan
-Tanev
-Stastny
-Armia
-(Little)

Each of these guy would make it to team.

It really seems that 2017-2018 was THE year and now window is closed.

I get your point -
But - and there's always a but, you don't need one timers from both sides - one side needs to be the pivot that's looking to pass as we set up.
Laine is still the best destination for that pass - so passing is the best option - but a RH shooter should provide another threat on top of the pass.

There's never been a problem with Little's defensive game! Even most Copp proponents just have to admit, 1 goal and 2 assists through 9 games playing with Connor and Ehlers isn't good. Copp doesn't make Connor or Ehlers better and in fact takes away from their potential offence, anyone but Copp with Connor and Ehlers would be a huge improvement!

I don't think it is nearly that simple. To start, Little's D game is not good.

I agree that Copp is not doing enough offensively with those wingers. But he is at least better defensively than Little.

Meanwhile, Roslovic has been better offensively with weaker wingers and less TOI. Its time to give him a shot.

Pionk is just as advertised. Other players own him along the boards and in front of the net. He moves the puck well, but that doesn't translate into a lot of offense. He isn't really that effective at moving the puck out of the Jets' zone, either. And even his assist last night was due to simply handing the puck to Ehlers, who did all the work.

Pionk is tied for 9th in points for defensemen and is top-30 (tied) in PPG. His CF% is >50, much better than advertised.
At 23 min/game, in all situations, I don't know what more you could have asked from him, other than growing 6 inches. Did you know that size isn't everything? ;)

Although I can't recall all his assists, like his pass to Elhers yesterday (a short hand off where Ehlers did all the work) I wouldn't call him a playmaker. While he isn't Mark Stuart, it is true that he is a significant step backwards from Trouba.

If you want to use that kind of logic you can nitpick most players’ points. Points are points and sometimes you do a lot to earn them and sometimes you don’t. They’re honestly hard to quantify sometimes but getting them is still a positive regardless.

Watch that first goal again. Hellebuyck was screened on that play ... he had to look around the Islander player who was standing right in front of him. That split second to see who had the puck made him a second too late to get all the way across the crease.
This is WFT is matter with the Jets PP nobody goes to the front of the net. I guess they are scared to get hit by a Laine shot or a big defenceman ... wimps. Seriously any goalie can stop a puck they can see from the blue line.
Noticed this against the Pens. They always had guys in front of Helle. We never seemed to. Prima donnas.

Fair enough... and yet we're near the bottom or at the bottom of virtually every defensive metric, and we can't blame it all on Dahlstrom and Bitetto. And no, I'm not particularly impressed with Pionk's defensive play. He certainly does not make up for the loss of Trouba, not by a mile. Pionk is what I expected, a small puck moving defenseman with average to below average defensive capabilities.

Wheeler is a big guy , he should make his living right in front of the goalie especially when he shouldn't be shooting the puck when Scheif and Laine are out there with him . Scheif and Laine both have great shots , Wheeler not so much .

Literally every defenseman is playing over their head. Even Morrissey is not use to dragging around guys that should be playing 15 mins a night. None of this should be a shock to anyone.

Been beating that drum for three years. Wheeler was good in front of the net. No clue why he never goes there anymore.

It's not. I'm just saying that Pionk is pretty much what I expected.

When the trade was made i thought we got a horrible , horrible defenseman if you read the trade board . He has been a nice surprise if you ask me .

A lot of people pinned him as pretty bad so if you expected that you’re likely pleasantly surprised. If you expected what we’ve gotten in these nine games then you’re just content.

So maybe I miss heard it but I swear I heard Sawyer essentially call Laine stupid? Said something about him using high hockey IQ and made a side comment that it was rare or something?

Then don't call Trouba a playmaker, because they have produced assists at about the same rate.
But I was not ever comparing a $3M D to an $8M D--merely responding to your false characterization of Pionk as offensively limited.

Yes, it was a much better loss than the previous 2.
Let's ride these losses all the way to the playoffs.

A loss is a loss but playing badly, I mean really badly is worse, even if they steal the odd win. I'll take playing well and losing a low scoring game as a positive. It is progress.
