Most of these are unappealing IMO. You also left out Svech, however unrealistic that may be.

I can't see Carolina letting go of Aho either, but I'd have most interest in him, Svech, Pesce and Jarvis.
They won't trade Svechnikov for older guys on 1 and 2 year contracts.

Also Nikishin is very appealing.

Yes we should keep your boy willy who disappeared for at least 25 games each year.
Willy will be 100 per cent the one to go.
He will hold out again and price himself out of the leafd

I don't care if Nylander goes

I'm not a tool who plays favorites, they can all go for all I care

You know jack ****, all our big guys got overpaid so you whinging about Nylander just makes you look like a pointless sycophant for the other two no shows

Tonight will show if Marner will ask for a trade and Matthews or Nylander will effectively as well by declining to sign new contracts. If the continue to roll over and die, that should speak volumes. If they show up and actually compete, I expect Marner and Matthews back, Dubas gone which leads to “option” to sell off Nylander for a 1st

If they do trade Nylander it probably won't be for picks. It'll likely be a hockey trade

Yeah well could be I just can’t think of how you could get anywhere near comparable value/player, or at least one that isn’t of the Marner/Matthews mould (despite my wanting him gone). For me I almost prefer the pick, prospect route and then use the money to fill his spot with a UFA, get double or triple the assets even if inferior.

I wish they could have pulled off Tkachuk instead of Florida but obviously he wanted out of Canada and we didn’t have a Weegar to throw in. That’s the kind of roster player I’d want for Nylander; or, perhaps there’s a true top 2 D they could target but who might be available?

He can potentially be traded for an older player (like in the same foosteps as ROR) or a lesser player signed longer term too. Not that I think it would necessarily be a good trade, but I just don't think whomever is in the front office is just going to move guys for question mark picks at the moment. Perhaps the best case scenario would be for a younger top 9 player who hasn't quite broken out yet

Personally I'd look at moving Marner first given his valuable term and greater caphit if they were to make a shakeup trade.

Marner's actual salary is just over $8 mill as well .. so while the cap hit it big, actual salary is more appealing. Retention would really boost the value.

Nylander's salary is $6 mill.

I really hope the main piece in any moves involving the big 3 is not an older player. The Leafs need to get younger and faster ASAP.

Maybe i'm overthinking it, but I don't think you need to go out and trade for a big time goalie. Chances are Samsy has been playing hurt for the better part of the year. Get rid of the Murray contract and run Samsy and Woll next year.

Collectively they should come in together around the Murray contract.

I'd take the Kerfoot/Holl contract to really upgrade our forward depth. Maybe it's used to try keeping ROR and Bunting, but I also think we need a lot more speed on our wings.

Agreed. Depending on the outcome of this series I’d let Bunting go and RE-sign ROR. I’d look at Rodrigues in UFA and potentially Zucker depending on price.

Yeah, there's little moves that can be done that can make us even better next year. Without getting into trading one of the core.

I think a Samsy/Woll tandem has us set. Need to get faster on the wings. Especially if we potentially run AM-Tavares-ROR down the middle.

As much as people crap on Dubas this deadline he picked up useful pieces this year and next.

Lafferty, McCabe will be mainstays next year so for a cheap price he brought in guys who will be around and in McCabe case be a prominent player.

If I was the Leafs I would be approaching Schenn to see if he will do a hometown discount for a year or 2. Schenn is the perfect partner for Reilly. When MO was really good that one year he had Hainsey as is stay home partner who played a physical game.

Schenn allows you have to have a good top 4.

Schenn - Reilly
Lilly - McCabe
Gio - Brodie- Timmins

You can now put the Calgary duo back together plus Timmins to rotate thru the bottom pair and it will be good enough to compete.

You can allocate resources to goalie and middle 6 forwards

A guy I know who works in media told me that the Leafs wouldn't actually mind parting with Marner; his dad's a giant PITA.

I heard this back when he was here with the Knights, but does anyone know if there's real substance to this?

I work with a few people in the NHL world and lots who are connected to players during the off-season and those Paul Marner dad stories are indeed true. He doesn't do his son any favors at all.

Lots say they won't be surprised if Marner's dad wears out his son's welcome in a few NHL cities. His dad thinks Marner should be the highest-paid player and is not happy Matthews is getting paid more. There's a jealousy of McDavid by Paul Marner and the rumor was McDavid wouldn't come home if Marner was still here. Again the last one was just hearsay from a few various sources who work with #97 in the offseason.

Yes, he was intrusive back in London and the first few years here but that's over.
He pretty much dropped out after the contract negotiations and isn't really involved at all any more.

If they wanted to part ways they would have no trouble doing so.

I hope for Marner's sake he has told his dad to f*** off and take a back seat. I bet Mitch would probably take less if he could go back.

Do posters still believe mcdavid will leave the oilers and come home to the cesspool Toronto media and fans. Media shits all over the team. Fans actually threaten players and their families

Mcdavid will stay away from this shit show

Run with Samsonov and Woll next season. Murray gets bought out.

I think Carolina would really want a player like Marner. Could something like Jarvis, Prospect (Morrow?), 1st Rounder (and maybe another 2nd/3rd) make sense?

I posted on the main boards, but a Hanifin/Nylander swap makes a lot of sense. Leafs run something like; Hanifin-Brodie, Rielly-Schenn, McCabe-Liljegren, and Gio can be the 7th D on nights we run 11/7, and can swap in on back to backs and such. Timmins the spare RHD.

Forward wise, I 100% try and bring back ROR. I would try and get Patrick Kane as well. Sell him on playing with Matthews (This is assuming we give Matthews the bag), and I'm sure his pal John Tavares can provide some encouragement. I also wonder if the Tyler Bertuzzi-Leafs connect comes back into play. Would 5x5 make sense? Possible he stays in Boston. If Perry wants to sign with us this time, do it lol

Best part of this lineup? (Kane 6.5, Bert 5.0, ROR 5.0, Perry 1.0, Schenn 1.25, Samsonov 3.25) There is still 7-8M left in cap space. So even if you think any of the totals there are low, there's room to increase them.

We maintain our strength down the middle, and along the wings, there's still a lot of skill, and some tenacity. I also put our 8 d-men up against any 8 in the league.

Knies - Matthews - Kane
Bertuzzi - Tavares - Jarvis
Robertson - ROR - Jarnkrok
Acciari - Holmberg - Perry
Lafferty

Hanifin - Brodie
Rielly - Schenn
McCabe - Liljegren
Giordano - Timmins

Samsonov
Woll

Oilers will trade him if he refuses to re-sign there. He won't come cheap if he leaves Edmonton.
