I thought he played RD and Makar was the LD?I personally think the Leafs should stop adding LD. The value is absolutely there but Rielly/McCabe/Gio is a very solid LD.

Niemela might win that spot tbh. He's come to the Marlies and from the little I've seen has looked like their best d man instantly. Holl might get paid somewhere else so on the right side we'll probably have Schenn, Liljegren and possibly Niemela. Might think about moving Brodie to the left side and go with this:Gio should not be #6 next season, #7 would be best. Perhaps a long look with Kral or move brodie to LD and add a Mayfield and resign Schenn
Toews is LD.I thought he played RD and Makar was the LD?
He's better off in Arizona. I don't think he'll do well in our market IMO. 1st overall in Yakupov-level territory... if he's sold cheap sure but I don't know if we'll bite.Laf seems to be the scapegoat in Rangers land along with a few others. If he's made available this off season you have to check in on that no?
Assuming Keefe/Dubas stick around they don't exactly have patience when it comes to young players in the lineup. I don't see the fit.Laf seems to be the scapegoat in Rangers land along with a few others. If he's made available this off season you have to check in on that no?
Maybe not, but I think a lot of that is the post Covid FA market, part market pressure, and the team not making it further in the playoffs the past few years. I’m hoping for a small infusion of internals next year continuing: Knies seems a lock, Pontus another, one of McMann/Steeves, and finally unleashing Lili for good.Assuming Keefe/Dubas stick around they don't exactly have patience when it comes to young players in the lineup. I'm not saying they don't have reasons not to play their young players. What I am saying is I don't think this is a good spot for Lafreniere to exceed.Maybe not, but I think a lot of that is the post Covid FA market, part market pressure, and the team not making it further in the playoffs the past few years. Depends, it could actually be a really good spot for him to exceed. If we re-sign O’Reilly (we better), we can form a REALLY good two-way line with Lafreniere - O’Reilly - Marner.I'm not saying they don't have reasons not to play their young players. Lafreniere isn't good defensively though. I'd rather just stick Knies there.Depends, it could actually be a really good spot for him to exceed. If we re-sign O’Reilly (we better), we can form a REALLY good two-way line with Lafreniere - O’Reilly - Marner.
Ah. I was replying more to reasons for the ‘impatience’ part.I'm not saying they don't have reasons not to play their young players. What I am saying is I don't think this is a good spot for Lafreniere to exceed.
Don’t you love saying that name?Pionk
Would rather bring in a speedy #2 center who can bump Tavares to the wing.Terrible question to ask in the middle of a playoff run, but this summer, would you consider Nylander for D. Toews?
Big Toews fan here, would love to bring him in.
As much as I’ve enjoyed having Schenn back, this off-season I’m still looking to upgrade our top unit with Rielly.
Rielly - ________
McCabe - Liljegren
Brodie - Timmins
Giordano

I'd be looking to re-sign Schenn as things currently stand due to his importance regarding our #1D. I also can't see Timmins being a fixture in the top six next season with him being a #9 right now.As much as I’ve enjoyed having Schenn back, this off-season I’m still looking to upgrade our top unit with Rielly.

Idk about that.I'm not saying they don't have reasons not to play their young players. What I am saying is I don't think this is a good spot for Lafreniere to exceed.
He very likely could thrive offensively in the Leafs top 6. The issue with a player like Lafreniere is you still need to give up a lot to get him and he's not a sure bet. I think you can spend less assets to acquire a player who will put up the same production in the same spot, like Bunting. I'd imagine the acquisition cost is similar to Dach if not more.Idk about that.
Laf-Matthews-Nylander
Knies-Tavares-Marner
You don't think he thrives in that situation? Even if you switched him and Knies he'd fit in well. I know he didn't put up the points in the playoffs but his line was buzzing most nights and getting them chances and if he's playing with the elite talent we have in our top 6 he's easily gonna be a 50-60 point player possibly even more. If you could sign him to a somewhat long term deal at a lower AAV and get those kind of seasons that'd be a huge win for our team especially with all our core players contracts about to end and gonna get a raise.
I'd like to see them run Liljegren 2RD and Timmins 3RD for a full season. They both have performed well when they get opportunity. Hopefully losing the pressure of winning 1 round will free up the coaching staff to play them next season.I'd be looking to re-sign Schenn as things currently stand due to his importance regarding our #1D. Timmins will be in the top 6 next year, 100%.I kinda think gio will be done
rielly Brodie
McCabe lilly
Xxxx. Schenn
Timmins
Would be my guess
I'd honestly prefer to see that as well...over time. I just feel as though it might be a tad optimistic to run that setup from the start. He very likely could thrive offensively in the Leafs top 6.
