I also think the leafs should focus on splitting up Marner/Matthews next year.

Bunting (depending on contract.) - Matthews - Nylander
Knies/Jankrok - Tavares - Marner
Knies/Jankrok - ROR - Brown
Acciari - Holmberg - Lafferty

I haven't fully looked into it has there been any definite rumors of what Matthews/Nylander plans on doing? I assume things would probably be done rather swiftly come July and if it goes on is where it gets dicey?

If I recall Matthews first contract was done rather quickly?

Done with Bunting tbh
Knies, Robertson, Holmberg, Steeves, McMann

Jarnkrok Matthews Nylander
Knies Tavares Marner
Robertson O'Reilly Lafferty
Steeves Holmberg Acciari
McMann

McMann hasn't earned anything at the NHL level. He has earned a right to compete but nothing more.

It is going to be tough for him to crack our lineup straight out unless he has a really good camp and looks better than Robertson/Steeves/Abruzzese and likely a few veterans.
He’s done about as much as he can at that level the past two years.
Sure, compete, but he’s earned a legit shot.

Cap compliant 23-24 lineup. Would be content to take Domi/Drouin/Rodrigues over Barbashev as well, and/or use the JVR money on a dman

I mean he is good at what he is good at, but there were a lot of areas he could improve to give himself a better chance. He doesn't have any kind of east-west game... He is pretty much just north-south with a shot. No real playmaking ability either. His defensive game is average at best too, so I doubt he is PKing or shutting guys down in the NHL.

Seems like a few pretty big things he could have improved at that level to give himself a better chance in the NHL. Right now he is pretty much a bottom 6 offensive power forward who may be able to play on PP2... So effectively, he would be another Zach Sanford at best, and other than the one year he had 30 points in 58 games, Sanford has been sub-replacement level in his career.

Should be a decent depth guy to have around, but you need at least 4 LW's ahead of him on the depth chart.

Any analytics guys have a bead on some under-the-radar Michael Bunting types out there we can get on the cheap?

I'm a bit intrigued by Michael Carcone. He's a 26 yearold UFA winger. Only 5'9 but plays a feisty game. Scored 31 goals, 85 points, and 127 pims in the AHL this year.

We had him before and traded him, but I wouldn't mind bringing back on the cheap. Like Bunting, he was also with the Coyotes.

Would love to get Barbashev. Did he play with O'Reilly in St. Louis or on a different line.

1. Michael Eyssimont
2. Hudson Fasching
3. Ryan Donato
4. Kiefer Sherwood
5. Fredrik Olofsson

All 5 players should be legitimate contributors to the lineup for <1M.

Fasching is probably resigning with the Islanders. Eyssimont would not be a bad option to try out, much like Carcone. The other three do not really move the needle at all. At that point we may as well try out our own younger prospects with more upside... But any of them could be decent AAAA options since the Marlies will need some new ones next year.

I'm so thrown off for next year just because I think...we're not gonna be able to keep Nylander on an extension and think we should trade him this summer and that's making it harder to put together a line up. I wouldn't want him walking for nothing and maybe the assets could be used to bring in someone else to help the group.

X-Matthews-Jarnkrok
Knies-JT-Marner
Robertson-ROR-Lafferty
X-Holmberg-Acciari

Would not be opposed to bringing back ZAR

McCabe-Brodie
Rielly-Schenn
Gio-Liljegren
Mete-Timmins

I'd say Mete-Gio-Schenn-Timmins would rotate a lot next year

I wouldn't mind trying to sign any of Orlov / Graves / Clifton / Mikkola either. 3/4 are at a great age.

Samsonov
Woll

Murray gotta go.

The Leafs can realistically fit together:

Jarnkrok-Matthews-Marner
Bertuzzi (5.5M)-Tavares-Rodrigues(3M)
Knies-ROR(4M)-Nylander
ZAR(850k)-Acciari (1.5M)-Lafferty
Holmberg (775k)

Rielly-Brodie
McCabe-Liljegren
Giordano-Timmins
Schenn (775k)

Samsonov (3.75m)
Woll

That 22 man roster comes in at 83.39M. This assumes you can dump Murray without retention.

Interesting, we're someone similar for $

My comfort level is 5.5M x2 for Bertuzzi but think it's likely taking 4 years minimum

Unsure if Rodrigues is the guy for JT

ROR I had 4-4.25M x2-3 yrs
ZAR 900-950k- also debated Cogliano for 1 year at 900k-1M to add some speed
Holmberg I usually did 2 years at 850k
Acciari I did 2 years at 1.275M (25k raise)
Schenn was 850k x 2
Samsonov 3.25-3.75M x2

I agree on Fasching.

Eyssimont's underlying numbers were very strong this year prior to getting to Tampa. He is an energy guy that can play any wing in the Leafs bottom 6.

Donato is your best bet at a pure offensive top 6 player. I personally don't like the player but he has put up decent numbers given his TOI and could be due for a breakout.

Sherwood is more than likely a Marlies option but could be a serviceable top 6 call up.

Olofsson is interesting. He put up decent defensive numbers this year. I am not sure if he would be better than Holmberg but he could be a 3/4LW option.

ERod has been very good for 2 straight seasons now. I wanted him badly last off season and Colorado was able to sign him late for 2M. He put up a 19 goal/46 point pace this year. He plays all 3 forward positions, the Leafs always need RS C options. He was top 10 in even-strength defense GAR last season and top 30 this season. He seems like a strong option to carry defensive responsibility for JT.

Bertuzzi I agree is risky. I have him there as a placeholder really. I think he is overrated but I also think 5.5M is realistic given his production the last 2 seasons.

I don't think you give Bertuzzi 5.5 mill. That can be better spent elsewhere.

At that point, bring back Bunting for at least 1 mill less than that and at least you know what you are getting... But with the shear number of LW's we have coming up and far more important guys we will need to re-sign, I do not think we should be committing big dollars to any kind of UFA right now.

I think I would just prefer to re-sign ROR, Acciari, and Kampf personally. Not that Acciari and Kampf are all that special, but it would be nice to have some continuity on the PK if we are losing Kerfoot and possibly ZAR.

Then just look for the next sneaky pickup.

I thought about Patches but you'd maybe need to do without for half a season.

I’d rather not pay Bunting for his production next to Matthews/Marner when you can pay Bertuzzi for better production next to Larkin/Raymond. It’s been long reported that Dubas loves Bertuzzi.

As far as committing money - Matthews/Nylander/Lily raises shouldn’t cost much more than the rising cap and Brodie’s pay decrease.

Need to try and get JT to waive is NTC.
I would trade both JT and Willy and resign ROR, Acciari, Schenn

Trade for Wilson, Helly
Sign Sheary and Eller

Wilson Matthews Marner
Knies ROR Jarnkrok
Sheary Eller Brown
Holmberg Acciari Lafferty
McMann

McCabe Brodie
Rielly Schenn
Giordano Lilly

Helly
Woll

With what's going on in Winnipeg and emergence of Morrissey wonder if Pionk could be had. He'd be a solid add to the D imo. RHD, puck moving, great shot and hits.

That lineup is a big downgrade. Wilson looked cooked this year.

If Calgary wants s a shake up

Lindholm. Hanafin. Have 1 year left.

I would try to pry Anderson from them

Where are we picking with Bruins 1st?
28th

Picks 1-16 are for non-playoff teams, order pending the draft lottery, and then by regular season performance.
Picks 17-28 are for teams who go out in the first or second round, ordered by regular season performance. With BOS being 1st OA in the regular season, they'd be last in that slot - 28.
Picks 29 and 30 are for the Conference Final runner ups, by regular season order.
31 is for the Stanley Cup runner up.
32 is for the Stanley Cup winner.
