They are signed to be leafs now
If they lose and have any competitive nature they will look to find a team that isn't cursed/choker/trash/whatever like the leafs are
This summer both have all the power. 1 year from UFA they can ask for a trade if they want, if not directly, then can look to just wait the leafs out
Ideally we know if they are coming back by August at latest this year. If not we move them

I thought about this but if these 2 no show this series...what's the point? I think it would be pretty clear cut they're not capable of leading the team anywhere except slightly better than the Jack Eichel era Sabres...we make the playoffs and extend our season by 4-7 games but that's it.

I could possibly see Gio retiring since the 2nd half of the season he has not been very good but if he plays then I would only play him part time so I could see them possibly bringing Schenn back or maybe even Gustafsson. Those ??? on forward could either be FA or guys like McCann if they earn it out of camp. Maybe they bring ZAR back strictly for the 4th line because he's been good with Acciari and Lafferty and he makes league minimum. Robertson is a question mark to stay healthy and has to earn his spot again so I have no clue who we could possibly target in FA for those roles because I forget who all the FA are this year.

I'd think Holmberg is more likely to make the team than Robertson.
If they shed Murray's contract and run the lineup you proposed they could go out and get a Bertuzzi and run Jarnrkok as 3RW. I'd also love to see them get Rodrigues to play any position in the top 9.

The NMC could potentially block any trade but I’m sure there would be a discussion before hand as to what teams JT would be willing to waive to go to if he were even willing to waive his NMC at all. Then the GM would proceed to contact only those certain teams.

I think Rielly would for Vancouver or Los Angeles (quick flight back to Vancouver) because of family connections but the list of teams would be small.

Just hoping and praying that we can at least get 2 of Fiala / Kempe / Byfield / Clarke (LA Kings) or Zegras / McTavish / Drysdale / Mintyukov (Anaheim Ducks) if Matthews tells Dubas (or whoever the GM is) that he isn't gonna sign an extension and we sign-and-trade him to California.
Not sure how Shanahan / Dubas are thinking, but for me, the idea of losing Matthews for nothing like Islanders lost Tavares and Flames lost Gaudreau is unacceptable.
He could also go to Arizona or stay in Toronto long-term, but my gut says it's Los Angeles (or maybe Anaheim).

As for rookies, I think 2 or 3 of Knies, Robertson, Holmberg will make the team in the fall, replacing Bunting and one or two of the depth fowards (Kerfoot, Acciari, Kampf). Aston-Reese will probably extend here as well.

Completely agree. Especially if we’re moving Tavares to the left wing permanently, adding Connor Brown to the right side would have the makings of a VERY good hard working third line.

Would love to get someone like Tomasino to center that third line. Robertson + going the other way. Would give us probably the best top nine in the league.
Bunting is probably gone. But if we can lock him up for cheap as a 3LW I’m all for it.

I’m on board with the idea of finding another young C with upside to play with but not drive a second line.
And I still have a soft spot for Connor Brown.
You’ve still got Bobby Mac who’s earned his shot to start next year. And the whole regular season to find guys who mesh.
I personally like the idea of a Swede line to spread offense.

McMann hasn't earned anything at the NHL level. He has earned a right to compete but nothing more.
It is going to be tough for him to crack our lineup straight out unless he has a really good camp and looks better than Robertson/Steeves/Abruzzese and likely a few veterans.
