This is maybe the only scenario i would entertain at this point (i havent liked re signing him long term for a while now)

It comes down to knies robertson and steeves and the organization needs to make a definitive choice on who they want to proceed with

Personally i like holmberg to replace kerfoot and mcmann ideally for astonreese

So there could only be two lw spots next year. I think as much money needs to be allocated to defence and goaltending if sammy is being re signed.. so bunting turning into another kerfoot isnt very appealing

I don’t see anything special with Steeves. Holmberg should be on the team next year, he will be go playing with Lafferty and Acciari(if he resigns).
Robertson needs to be in the Top 6 to be effective.
Knies can play lower in the lineup due to his size but think he might be better playing in the AHL instead of making the jump right away.

Would anyone try and trade Reilly this off season? I suppose that he does have a NMC and we shipped out Sandin. But I think he might age badly and really hinder us long term.

Honestly, is Bunting at 3m even better than Kerfoot at 3.5?

I would trade him in a heartbeat. It's the easiest position to fill and he makes the defense very awkward. 7.5M can be much better spent and having a LD of Brodie, McCabe, Gio means there's at least one defensively responsible player on each pair.

I view it similarly but I prefer a C lineup of Matthews-Tavaes-ROR-Acciary/Lafferty with the 4th line being a crash and bang 4th line (aka no Holmberg). I'd line them up like:

X-Matthews-Marner
Knies-Tavares-Nylander
Holmberg-ROR-Jarnkrok
X-Lafferty-Acciari

Where LW1 could be either of Bunting or Zucker and LW4 could be any 4th liner OR you take Foegele off Edmonton's hands for free and overpay him as a 4LW for a year. Bertuzzi is also an option for 1LW but his season has been worrisome.

Do you think there's a chance Gio possibly retires after this season? Gonna be 40 by the start of next season and if we win it all I could see him retire but if not then I assume he'll go after it 1 more time.

If they won a cup, potentially, although there is no cap relief in that. Would he be agreeable to being the 7th D? Perhaps.

Bunts has 2, 20 goal seasons at 900K. We'd be lucky to get him at $3m IMO. He's gonna get paid somewhere.

Depending on how things shake out with our goaltending this off-season, I wouldn't mind Hellberg joining us.

He's looked good on a mediocre Detroit team.

The core of Tavares/Matthews/Marner/Nylander shouldn't be paid more than they are right now collectively. If the Leafs are avoiding contracts so they can overpay them that's dissapointing.

Matthews probably gonna be 13-14M...with 14M being the worst case scenario and not ideal at all.

Nylander is showing inconsistency again, I don't think you can go beyond 8.75-9M per.

I am sure some team will offer 9-10.5M per but we cannot be that team.

I would try to figure out if he's willing to handshake on such a contract prior to the draft, if Matthews or Nylander won't commit to being Leafs for the next 8 years heading into July 1st, you really need re-evaluate the direction of the team.

You probably need to do a tear down and it effects everything. Suddenly re-signing ROR makes no sense etc.

I thought so too.

Read up on him with NJD fans and they said he had a hard time reading plays and connecting with skilled linemates, didn't work with either of Hischier or Hughes.

He plays physical and he's fast though so there is some interest there, just not sure as a top 6 guy.

That being said seems like just the kind of guy that would work on a line with Tavares
