ROR is a great addition, not enough though. We're essentially relying heavily on the core guys who have failed miserably when it's come to the line once again. The fact that Matthews looks like absolute garbage compared to the last couple of years certainly doesn't help.

I have no faith in Samsonov either, defense looks good, top 6 is great, bottom six is meh, goaltending meh.
Maybe you're right. But maybe you're wrong. I hope you at least consider the possibility that you are.

Kerfoot-ROR-Lafferty has looked very strong in their limited time together. I am curious to see if they get an extended look as a shutdown line. I also see Liljegren sticking with Gio and Schenn-Rielly playing sheltered 5v5 minutes.

I think we're more likely to see B. Although they'll swap Liljegren and Holl.

Bunting - Matthews - Nylander
Knies - Tavares - Marner
Kerfoot - ROR - Jarnkrok
Lafferty - Kampf - Acciari

The big ask is for Knies to be good right away and sustain that over many playoff games but I like the depth of this setup.

Whatever the case, the moment you move ROR down to the 3rd line C spot, our forward line balance looks much better.

Think the NHL and NBA should adopt the Euro football approach with transfer windows.
You can only have players transfer in the off season or a month in mid season. Ofcourse when it comes to the mid season one, it will be like three weeks in Feb.

Would’ve been nice to get a winger, but not the end of the world, hopefully.

I was hoping Holl would be traded, but let’s not act like having 9 NHL d-men, 10 if you include Benn, is a bad thing.

The issue comes more if Keefe plays Holl/Gustafsson over Liljegren constantly

Do you think there was something out there that would have helped the team? I'm not sure any of the pieces moved would have improved the team. But I could be wrong.
I can't evaluate a trade of fiction. Who was the best name traded today? The is answer is: Probably Yes.

Wonder how much they'll mix in McMann and Holmberg down the stretch to see how they might fit the lineup. I really like them both for next year, not sure about this postseason though.
It sounds like they plan on calling one of them up. I think it should be McMann, he just strikes me as more impressive than Holmberg at this point

Right now, they may be looking at seeing if they can create a third line that works without ROR amd of they can't, they'll try something different, Because, if they can get a third line working without ROR, I think the Leafs are stronger overall. But that may not be possible.

Once again, I see no reason to make any judgements about playoff lineups until giame 1 of the playoffs.

That's fair, but I don't think it's fair to put all that on the bottom 6 or even Dubas when the top 6 gets paid to show up for these moments. Best thing to do is is probably have Matthews, Tavares and O'Rielly C lines 1-3 and then have Nylander possibly play on that 3rd line RW spot with O'Rielly unless they put Tavares at 3 C. Something like:

Bunting-Matthews-Marner
Knies-O'Rielly-Nylander
Kerfoot-Tavares-Jarnkrok
Lafferty-Kampf-Acciari

Samsonov has shown to be great but also bad, especially on the road which is why I think home ice advantage is important for us so we need to finish the season off strong and stay ahead of Tampa. Maybe do something very unorthodox and never done before and play Murray on the road and Samsonov at home because their numbers are the complete opposite.

I think they'd love to get 10-13 mins/game out of Knies, not the 16-18 you'd likely see with him on L2 and PP2. I pretty much expect him to take the Holmberg role (or share it with Holmberg). Play 4th line minutes on either the 3rd or 4th line and play on PP2.

Remember how last playoffs everyone blamed some combo of Matthews, Tavares, Marner and Nylander for losing even though they scored or assisted on every single goal in the final 3 games of that series? Morgan Rielly in game 7 - assisted on by Matthews and Marner, was the only other guy that scored a goal from Game 4 onwards.

We basically have a bottom 6 that is in terms of scoring ability worse than the one we had last year. I dunno how anyone here is happy with that by justifying that we have Knies - a complete unknown and 10 defensemen.

Nice to have Boston’s 1st round.. even though they’ll probably make a run, it’ll Be extra sweet if the get knocked out early.

Ya you can easily move Knies anywhere on the left side depending on his performance.

Jarnkrok could move into the 2LW spot possibly.

The final twenty games will be all about finding the right combinations of lines/ D pairs because as of right now, there's not much that is actually figured out.
