I just think the Leafs' defense would be improved if they'd have gotten rid of Justin Holl. Tampa abused the shit out of him and Lyb last year, and now we're going into another series with him almost guaranteed a top 6 role because the coach is the only one who apparently doesn't see how bad he is...

Justin Holl vs Tampa last year:

5 GP
16.84 minutes/GP
61.51 GF%
58.04 xGF%

If this is getting abused the shit out of, I hope he does it again this playoffs.

I agree with most of this especially the Engvall trade. I get the fanbase hates him but we traded a guy away and didn't get a replacement. We had Acciari, Lafferty and Engvall all at the same time so I dunno why everyone is saying we couldn't have kept them all.

The idea of trading Engvall for Schenn would be okay if not for the fact that we had NINE NHL defensemen without Schenn already.
I think it was Engvall or Kerfoot to make the cap work.

Gustafsson isn’t a forward but depending on how Rielly is doing come playoff time having an experienced and good PP quarterback could end up being a shrewd move.

If Reilly goes down, I'd think Gus could fill in on the number one PP. Other than that, I don't believe he'll slot in anywhere.

If Holl remains number 7, then overall, I really like our additions to the blue line.
I could see them slotting Gustafsson in if they felt, for some reason, they needed more offense from the D-corps.

But essentially, I agree with you. I think they got him because they wanted an offernsive d-man to replace Sandin. And I teally think Sandin was moved because he either asked for a trade or the team thought he would be miserable and a negative influence if he wasn't playing regularly.

"He's got great extended stats, so we'll ignore that Tampa ddi the same thing to him that Boston did to Gardiner for two years!"

Have they? There's a serious lack of production down there and half of the bodies weren't even here a week ago, so I don't know they've been "consistent" lol
Then what's changed? Got serious lack of production down there for how many years now and people are mad we completely changed it out to try something new and with players who aren't afraid of physical contact or fight out front of the net for pucks? Engvall trade was the only trade that kind of confused me since I preferred him over Kerfoot. New guys haven't even got to play on set lines yet because they are all over the place and still controlling play majority of their shifts.

Because we didn't address the need down there lack of secondary scoring.

We've got a bunch of grinders who have never flirted with 20 goals, and Kerfoot.

You know the rules, you only use stats if they support the Narrative of the Mighty of LeaFland, if they run counter to that general opinion you may not use them.

What the f*** are you talking about lmao. In Justin Holls typical defensive usage, Tampa scored only 39% of the time and had 42% of the chances. He was objectively good in the series and you comparing him to Gardiner, who athough a better defenseman consistently collapsed in game 7's is asinine.

I’m happy with our moves and happy we’ll hopefully be giving Knies a chance. Rookies have come in before and done well right before and including the playoffs. He might be a spark for us. I’m also glad we didn’t trade the Boston 1st.
Who goes on waivers to allow Knies to join the roster?

dont understand people complaining about the Dmen depth if someone like Rielly gets hurt it will be a good move to have Gust if a Holl or McCabe get hurt it will be good to have Schenn. also if were scoring in bunches but can't keep the puck out of our net or lacking some physicality we can insert Schenn, if the offense is not going we can insert Gust to try and add a little bit of a spark on the back end.

The Leafs may have preferred Kerfoot. Or there wasn't a good deal out there for Kerfoot to go to a team he was willing to go to (mofified NTC).

Clearly they believe in Kerfoot's ability. I remember him being pretty useful 2 years ago in the playoffs. Looking at the stats 1 goal, 6 points in 7 games, not sure how much the scoreline is affecting my memory of how he played. I like Holmberg, and think Knies can be a NHL player right now, but I wouldn't have hated another bottom 6 addition. I don't like rentals though, and Buffalo paid too much for Greenway but probably wasn't much out there that would have made me happy.

Knowing we didn't flip a D I wouldn't have traded for Schenn. If the worst case where we need a 9th D for the playoffs Benn is a fine enough option that deep. Liljegren shouldn't have sat last year. He sure as hell better not sit this year.

By my count, Arizona is going to have 5 D after this trade... surely something else will happen, or someone going back? They also have three signed D, playing in the AHL... not one of which has ever played a NHL game.

Yeah they give no f***s
