Nope. Tough guy on the backend is Holl. He looked pretty scary against RNH. Lol.so Schenns our tough guy headed into the playoffs
Oh man I remember everyone thinking it was 3.5M for all 4 years and being like I guess that’s okay….It was $3.5M for 4 years. Still to much, but juist stating it for accuracy.
Maybe it's just me, but I'd like to see O'Reilly as the 3C and see how Knies does on the Tavares line. You can't waste Knies' skill on the 4th line.So who have we got that can bolster the forward group in house?
Holmberg, McMann and Knies, anybody else?
I'd use Holmberg with Kampf and Jarnkrok and try to build a line that could take some defensive usage but I doubt Keefe will
How many of you believe that Knies is ready for NHL action? remember it's a big men league

At least we have a team that finally accepts a fight or two. Walk before we run.Nope. Tough guy on the backend is Holl. He looked pretty scary against RNH. Lol.
Knies has a big man body. More so than half of our forward core honestly. How many of you believe that Knies is ready for NHL action? remember it's a big men league
I agree with most of this especially the Engvall trade. I get the fanbase hates him but we traded a guy away and didn't get a replacement. We had Acciari, Lafferty and Engvall all at the same time so I dunno why everyone is saying we couldn't have kept them all.
The idea of trading Engvall for Schenn would be okay if not for the fact that we had NINE NHL defensemen without Schenn already.
Here are my grades:
ROR + Accari trade: B+
I hate trading 1sts for rentals. Hate it. If we are going to trade one, a recent Conn Smythe winner who can either make our 3rd line relevant or play on the 2nd line is likely the way to go about it. Wouldn't mind re-signing him too. Accari is a good 4th line add. Great trade, but of an overpayment for my taste.
McCabe + Lafferty trade: A
I hate trading 1sts in general too for non-star players but McCabe is a proven 2-way defenseman signed for 2.5 years at 2M a season. He's Muzzin lite, and should look great beside Brodie in the playoffs. Lafferty I'm meh on, but cheap NHL depth for another season. Feels like he paid a good price, shored up the top-4, and added a guy for 3 runs.
Schenn trade: C
I don't get it. This is a typical Dubas deadline move that the media seem to consistently praise and say "Dubas FINALLY goes after a guy we wanted" essentially. Grit, intangibles, etc. Okay, he's the 9th best defenseman on this team and although he's a good enough #6 at this point, we had no need for that. Asset cost is fine, player is fine. Just doesn't fit any need whatsoever without moving out a defenseman.
Sandin trade: A-
I get it. I really do. If you're not sure about Ras, and based on the usage, Keefe isn't, you have to move him to a) keep him happy and b) ensure you get a great return. Unless you were trading him for an upgrade or multiple pieces that *could* be you're likely losing this
s trade in the long run. A 1st to recoup the two traded, and a guy who's essentially been the better version of Sandin *this season* is about as big a W as you can ask for trading an asset like him. They better use Gus though if he fits in the system. I have it ad a good trade today, but honestly it could look super dumb as soon as tomorrow.
Engvall trade: F
I love getting assets for UFA players, but I have no idea why you'd trade Engvall for a 3rd. At this moment in time there's no better player in the bottom-6, and you didn't acquire someone to replace him. I get people hated the fact he didn't hit, but he was extremely strong at puck removal, defense, play driving, and occasionally had a scoring touch. He's the *exact* player we should have more of, not trade a 3rd for. If it's a money issue, you could have traded Holl and been fine as Holl is arguably the 7th best defenseman on this team now. If it's an internal issue I'd love to know. Anything else? Makes less than 0 sense.
Overall I think the team is improved today compared to the ROR trade, but it seems to be lacking 1 piece in a middle-6 winger that can drive play. Also feels like a waste of assets to hold onto both of Holl and Gus, but what do I know.
I'm sure Dubas would've called StLoo and said that right out loudProposal - Boston's First, Niemela, Kerfoot for Parayko 50% retained
Yeah. I'm going to clairify my correcvtion to make it clear that I meant 3.5/year.Oh man I remember everyone thinking it was 3.5M for all 4 years and being like I guess that’s okay….
Then we saw that was the yearly cap hit. Fletcher was so bad in his short second stint here lol
I think I like the team we have and anything we get from him is a bonus. But it’s not like it’s completely un heard of for a guy to step right into the end of the season and playoffs out of college. How many of you believe that Knies is ready for NHL action? remember it's a big men league
Well, clearly he was valued enough around the league even after that for a team to trade a first round pick plus for him, I don't see that drastically changing between now and the draft. He also went to the press last offseason during his contract holdout and complained about not getting opportunities. I'm guessing they were afraid he might do that before they could trade him, which would continue to lower his trade value.
Kerf going to be the new GM.I don’t think Kerfoot is coming back
At least he's still got a punching bag just down the Holl to practice on.so Schenns our tough guy headed into the playoffs
Many teams will roll 8 D into the playoffs. The cup winning Avalanche did it last year. But what did they know right?ok. So you still traded for Gustavsson and Schenn who will see the press box for the entire playoffs, baring injury. It's just not smart - I don't know how you can argue otherwise. They offer us no value from the stands. Its a small bone to pick considering how well Dubas has played this TDL, but it's still perplexing. No other teams roll 8-9 D into the postseason.
You can draw some parallel with Schenn(first time as a Leafs)and Knies. He’s a big boy himself and will be well insulated in our forward group.
For the Vancouver WhiteCapsKerf going to be the new GM.
You can draw some parallel with Schenn(first time as a Leafs)and Knies.
Both guys coming in as a bruiser with okay skating.
Both guys were viewed as this great physical piece that is missing from the team. Less so with Knies now.
The different is that Schenn wasn’t as lucky as Knies with the surrounding talents.
