a minimum if 8 is about 1 more than the actual minimum you want. But OK. 8. That still means we made a trade today. So again, why haven't we?
Because they didn’t need to. Timmins isn’t ready for playoff hockey.
Other than him we have 8 which is the same number of Dmen the team that won the cup last year used

What's your guys immediate future look like in net? I picked up Woll for my fantasy team and he was great last game. Is he going to be getting a few more starts? Who do you expect against van? Campbell is a free agent so I'm wondering if you guys would drop Woll to pickup Campbell? lol, my other goalies are Skinner & Korpisalo. I know I have a lot of goalies but I'm in a really deep league so goalies are the only worthwhile players to pickup really.

Well, seeing how Dubas was clearly done I can't say I'm a fan of the Engvall/Schenn trades.

Not a big fan of our bottom six, can't wait to see Holl playing in our top 4 come playoff time.

Well what's the point of getting Schenn when when we have 7 guys who will play ahead of him (assuming you want Timmins who you just extended to get some playing time in). It makes no sense.

You can keep repeating it but it doesn't make it right. OFC they don't "need" to make a trade; just like bottom dwelling teams with pending UFAs dont "need" to sell them at the TDL. Why do they? It's good asset management.

Do we want to demonstrate smart asset management? or do we not need to?

Not a fan of the bottom 6 but they've been the most consistent lines of late? And they haven't even really got to play much together since they're still experimenting with many different lines.

Murray is about to be activated. I'm not sure he gets another game unless Murray reinjures himself.

I'd imagine Samsonov starts tomorrow.

Timmins might get some games down the stretch for development purposes but no chance he sees a playoff game. Even if multiple guys get hurt Benn or Mete probably get in before he does.

What about someone who thinks the team is upgraded, but they spent a lot of assets to upgrade the team marginally in a lot of ways and created holes while doing it.
That's fine. It was still upgraded. And if there were holes created, there were still far more filled. The team didn't become the best team, but it surely improved, while having 1sts in the next 2 drafts and all their top prospects.

Well it seems like this management group agree with me so I don’t know what to tell you.
You can say they have too many D all you want but it doesn’t change the fact that that’s what we are going with

ok. So you still traded for Gustavsson and Schenn who will see the press box for the entire playoffs, baring injury. It's just not smart - I don't know how you can argue otherwise. They offer us no value from the stands. Its a small bone to pick considering how well Dubas has played this TDL, but it's still perplexing. No other teams roll 8-9 D into the postseason.

I just think the Leafs' defense would be improved if they'd have gotten rid of Justin Holl. Tampa abused the shit out of him and Lyb last year, and now we're going into another series with him almost guaranteed a top 6 role because the coach is the only one who apparently doesn't see how bad he is...

So who have we got that can bolster the forward group in house?

Holmberg, McMann and Knies, anybody else?

I'd use Holmberg with Kampf and Jarnkrok and try to build a line that could take some defensive usage but I doubt Keefe will

Definitely an A+ for the first two moves, the next 3 combined with the inactivity today really sours it though. Hopefully it was enough, I guess we'll see
The only questionable move in my eyes is the Sandin trade. He did pretty well on everything else. Any questions as to whether this team can matchup with Tampa or Boston have been answered(on paper). Dubas completely changed this team. They look like a team that can finally go deep, and not just have to rely on the top 6. This is the most complete team we've had in 20 years.

Timmins likely is the focus starting next offseason. I don't think they're going to treat the playoffs as a development tool for him

So, basically, you don't teams just have NHL quality d-men as spaces for the playoff run? I'll suspect they'll slot him in some games down the stretch and he's always an option in the playoffs if they feel they need more offense from the D-corpss.
I would have preferred they flip Gus for draft capital to be honest. If anything it just seems like the right thing to do by the player. The guy was playing 20 minutes a night in Washington and he couldn't even get 10 minutes last night.
