We have some potential right now to have some guys play on the bottom lines.. wouldnt it be nice to stop paying year after year for those bottom lines
Our current route hasnt exactly shown promise
We don’t need to give opportunities. We need prospects who are good enough to take opportunities
It is both
I agree somewhat but time allowed plays a whole lot into that depending on the player and the roleIt really isn’t. If the players are good enough to take opportunities, they’ll get them.

If Lilgrin is traded it will be one of the worst moves they make in decades. That kids going to be good with the right development. I mean really really good. He is the one you trade away and in 3 years everyone is talking about how stupid the Leafs are.We should not deal Liljegren.
I was ok with the trading of Sandin because I question his footspeed and ultimately his ability to consistently defend but Liljegren is different and has the upside to be very good and we've seen that for stretchs. His play did regress last season but that isnt too uncommon for young players and it also never felt like he was a favorite under Dubas/Keefe.
He can move the puck, has some sneaky offensive ability and has shown a willingness to at least play strong positional defence.
Sandin has a decent chance to be similar to like Tyson Barrie but more physical so I don't think that burns us that bad but Liljegren has the well rounded ability to really hurt if you deal him away and he figures it out elsewhere.
This is patently false and is even moreso under Keefe. Prospects and young players on this roster have an entirely different standard of play they have to maintain in order to stay in the lineup, and any cold stretch or slump sees them benched or with drastically reduced playing time. Timmins was banished after the TDL, Liljegren lost his spot for having one bad stretch despite being better than Holl over most of the season, Robertson was never given a stable spot in the lineup, Knies only got in because Bunting was suspended, and there’s good evidence that Keefe and company desperately wanted Murray to be the playoff starter over Samsonov but health never allowed it.
Meanwhile, the already mentioned Holl could play awful as possible and never lost his spot, only losing it once Keefe’s hand was forced in the playoffs, and even then it took all of two games in round 2 before he was back in (which funnily enough coincided with the Leafs worst game of the series). Giordano was terrible and showing his age but was never removed from the lineup despite the Leafs having trouble scoring and having an offensive defenseman sitting right there who we gave up a promising young defenseman for (Sandin, another victim of Keefe’s inability to nurture young talent). Kerfoot was poor all season yet was thrown out there time and time again with no accountability in sight.
This team and Keefe have become far too reliant on veterans, refusing to hurt their feelings with scratches or reduced playing time, but more than willing to clip the wings or rookies and young guys who go through growing pains. The excuse that these players don’t have playoff experience can’t keep being used when the franchise adamantly refuses to give them any in favour of over the hill or otherwise mediocre veterans.
So trade Brodie yet have him on our third pair with Timmins or Schenn?! I like it! HahaPipe dream, but imagine that Treliving can work out a trade with Calgary with a basis of Brodie for Weegar.
Weegar was a Treliving signing, who's signed long-term. Maybe Conroy doesn't like the term and would prefer not being anchored to a player that he didn't draft/sign for 8 years at $6.25 per season?
Brodie makes the money work, and is a UFA after next season, giving Conroy a year of a stable defender who's familiar with the organization and, if wanted, would come at a much lower caphit.
Rielly-Weegar
McCabe-Liljegren
Brodie-Timmins/Schenn
That would definitely work for me.
Oh for frack sakes. Again Monday??? Again????So trade Brodie yet have him on our third pair with Timmins or Schenn?! I like it! Haha
I'd rather Zadorov for Brodie ...gives up size and snarl, and cap savingsPipe dream, but imagine that Treliving can work out a trade with Calgary with a basis of Brodie for Weegar.

I don’t see Calgary moving Zadorov but if they did he’d be a fantastic addition.
I don't get that. Calgary's #6 D, at $3.75 mil? If we are to target improving the D, I'd aim higher.

Hellebuyck has played way too many games over the last number of years. It's going to catch up with him sooner than later. To Toronto: Connor Hellebuyck + Pierre-Luc Dubois
To Winnipeg: William Nylander + Ilya Samsonov + 1st Round Draft Pick
