Yeah zero percent chance Lindholm makes as much as Nylander lol
I can dream...
Rantanen is equally good at scoring and playmaking, he's also not a chickenshit in the playoffs....no brainer. They're both equal in terms of value. I prefer Marner actually.
Great, so why would Colorado ever agree to that then?Rantanen is equally good at scoring and playmaking, he's also not a chickenshit in the playoffs....no brainer.
Rantanen's contract is also much better value.
I don't disagree that Nylander will make more, I disagree that he should make more. It's not like they're that far apart in age.In comparison, Nylander currently earns more, has been superior offensively and is a bit younger. Barring vastly different term lengths, I'll be fairly surprised if Lindholm's new contract (AAV) ends up being equivalent to Nylander's upcoming deal.
Mentioned this in the draft thread - but imo a new GM will be more inclined to trade prospects than picks to get things done. Knies likely still untouchable - but they'll have no initial attachment to anyone else in the Leafs prospect system.
Could potentially see some moved out for that 3C for example

I wouldn't mind retaining Holmberg since he should be NHL ready on a full-time basis while not exactly possessing a ton of trade value as the main component of any deal.I think Knies and Amirov are practically untouchable. It would take a lot for us to move Niemela and Robertson with Villeneuve and Minten not far behind (I still don't see Minten as a center in the NHL but he is the closest thing we've got right now).
The rest, which are mostly wingers anyways, are expendable with Voit, Hirvonen, Abruzzese, Holmberg, and Steeves leading the pack. We have a ton of good winger prospects so we can really afford to leverage that to get stuff done.
He seems like he is developing into that mid to long term cheap efdective depth player.. like a 5 to 7 yr 2million or less guy barring one of those stupid offensive outliersI wouldn't mind retaining Holmberg since he should be NHL ready on a full-time basis while not exactly possessing a ton of trade value as the main component of any deal.
I'm fine with him starting on the fourth line before hopefully working his way up to the third line. I think his trade value is likely to be bottom six forward or bottom pairing defenceman and don't love the idea of subtracting him in order to add either of those since I do believe he can be effective and economical for the team.He seems like he is developing into that mid to long term cheap efdective depth player.. like a 5 to 7 yr 2million or less guy barring one of those stupid offensive outliers
Operating under the assumption Shanahan told the Core4 that they are all coming back.
Bertuzzi (5 x 5.25m) - Matthews - Marner
Knies - Tavares - Nylander
Bunting (4x 4.5m) - Acciari (2 x 1.75m) - Jarnkrok
Lafferty - Holmberg - Lucic (1 x 1.250m)
Robertson.
Rielly - Brodie
McCabe - Lilly
Gio - Schenn (2 x 1.5m)
Timmins
Samsovov (1 x 3.5m) <Assuming they take him to arbitration to get a lower cap hit.
Woll.
Money left over; 806k.
NOTES:
- Filling the 3rd and 4th line center postion is hard to do in FA, not that many good options, Holmberg could be a risky option for 4c, but thought he played well while he was up here for the 35 games or so. Also don't know if the 3rd line center of Acciari is good enough, but see what I said eariler.
- Tried to take in consideration someone like Treliving would bring over from Calgary player wise, pretty sure Lucic is better then Simmonds and brings that "heavy" element to our bottom 6, could easily just put someone like Robertson there instead.
- Not sure on UFA market and what they are actually going to get, might be tad to low for someone like Bunting and Bertuzzi, (think filling that top 6 hole with Bertuzzi or someone else is important instead of having a revolving door around them.
Perry faded in the series against us. He might be done.I'd look at Connor Brown, Max Domi and Corey Perry as the start of an attitude adjustment.

He didn't fade, Cooper just barely played his 4th line. Their 4th line usually won their minutes against us.Perry faded in the series against us. He might be done.

Eric Haula would be a nice energy forward to plug into the 3C spot
