x/Knies - Matthews - Marner
x/Knies - Tavares - Nylander
Jarnkrok - x - x
Lafferty - Holmberg - x

3 bottom 6 spots and 1 top 6 spot to be filled.

Assuming Murray is bought out/traded and Samsonov/Holmberg make a combined $4.5M, that leaves approximately $15M in cap space to work with.

But you cannot commit term to anyone you sign because you have no f***ing idea what Matthews next contract will look like.

The course here may be to pick up expiring deals that teams may want to dump.

E.g. Brock Boeser, Blake Wheeler (with retention), Anthony Mantha, Victor Olofsson, Victor Arvidsson.

If we enter next season with Tavares penciled in as our second line center, it’ll be another year we make the playoffs and get knocked out. Tavares needs to permanently move to the wing.

I wonder if he'd work well with Holmberg. Holmberg is quite effective playing C, but so far, not so good at Faceoffs. Nylander can play C as well, which might be something worth trying.

I don't know if they'll bring RoR back or not. I'd rather have him at ~$5 mil, than Bunting.

Holmberg/RoR/Nylander/Tavares would give us some options down the middle.

Entering next season and entering the playoffs are very different things. As long as he can produce at C on a successful season team you can slot him there, accrue cap, add a C later and shift him to LW

I really like holmberg as a center moving forward

I look at his future hopefully like what free gaudreau has been in minnesota. Stable two way centerman that can work with offensive players because of boardwork and positioning but can be effective down low defensively.. but he has to work on faceoffs priority

We just need to find a hartman now

The NHL and NHLPA are currently discussing the possibility of bumping up next year's salary cap by more than the regular $1 million increase, according to TSN Hockey Insider Chris Johnston.

However, Johnson notes that the two sides won't "make concessions to push the ceiling higher" and the cap number isn't likely to be finalized for another month at the very earliest.

Everyone in hockey from the players to the coach to the GM to the PoHO mislead, conflate, or outright lie ALL THE TIME. Whatever Shanahan alledgedly told the core 4 on the phone holds zero value moving forward.

Say Dubas does, in fact, go to Pittsburgh. We know that Dubas loves his old players. What can we get for, say, Marner?

For a cap in/cap out deal, how about:

Marner
Prospect

for

Pierre-Olivier Joseph (800,000ish)
Bryan Rust (5 million-ish)
Mikael Granland (5 milion)

Caps balance for now. POJ is RFA next year, but Mikael Granland's contract is up the year after.

Rust -> Signed for many years and is usually a PPG first or second line winger. Fierce competitor who plays well with talent. Has some grit.
POJ -> Just starting to hit his stride. Looks to be a top-4, 2-way d-man
Granland -> Signed for 2 more years. Definitely inconsistent and overpayed, but can play 3C or jump to 2C when needed. Had 64 points in 80 games in 21/22.

I think the most realistic move is moving Nylander for two solid forwards. Looking at LA I’m thinking of Vilardi + Iafollo/Byfield.

Trade marner + lilly to columbus for jenner and werenski.

Knies. Matthews. Nylander
Tavares. Ror. Xxxxx
Robertson. Jenner. Jarnkrok
Lafferty. Holmberg. Acciari
Xxxx. Xxxx

Rielly. Werenski
Mccabe. Brodie
Gio. Schenn
Xxxx. Xxxx

Samsonov
Woll

Trade down with Anaheim our 26 pk for 33 pk + 65 pk

If Philly is going into full rebuild
2 nd rd pk ( 33 overall )
For
Scott Laughton 3 mil cap hit

Bring in Bertuzzi at 5 X 4.5 Fills a massive hole on LW. Tough, can score, skilled, POS to play against.

I would love Hathaway for the bottom of the lineup.

Could we somehow afford Orlov? Term might be too long, but what a fit he would be.

my only worry with Bertuzzi is his giveaway blunders
