Again just revealing your ungratefulness. I know it's hard not to be emotional about the team but maybe take a step back an recognize this team was basically not picked ot make the playoffs last year and now is being talked about as a cup contender. That equals very relevant-

Next, Gallant instilled belief into a group of guys who were putrid under David Quinn. But yes,I'm sure they all, simultaneously without any help from the coach, all made massive leaps in their games. Because to accept your argument that it's only Shesty's doing that got this team to where they are, you'd have to ignore the major steps forward basically every player made.
Every single thing you saw last season was because of Igor. Gallant did absolutely nothing. He has no system. He has no strategy. He calls for zero accountability. Where are the major steps for Laf and Kakko? Who are we giving him credit for, Zib Panarin Fox and Kreider then? They were already those players.

This team has lost 4 in a row badly. Not sure they are being talked about as a cup contender at all right now. And there definitely isn't any of this "belief" in themselves that you're talking about right now either.

Sorry if this has been mentioned already but are they playing Panarin on the RW during the PP? Wasn't this the same issue they had when they started last season, the pp was pretty meh until they setup Panarin & Z both on the lw giving them 2 different threats from that side. Maybe it's time to go back to that deployment?

Badly? The lost in a skills competition to the defending stanley cup champs and out chanced the Islanders 2-1. 80+ shots in two games, that usually evens out during a season.

We are back to being terrible 5v5. Sure there's a lot of shots but they aren't the high danger, swarming the net kind.

A couple of guys have noted on it and I think it really is time to make some changes with all the lines and pairings. Mika and Kreider are awful 5v5.
They do not fit with the kids because they don't play the same game.

Trocheck could probably mesh well with Laf and Kakko and it gets Laf back to this preferred side.

We've ran with these sets for literally years now. We don't need the Tom Renney Lineup Generator but some tweaks and adjustments are needed.

I see the potential for it with Kakko. The great rush where he almost scored was one, as well as the Datsyukian goal he scored earlier in the season where he basically just ragged the puck for 15 seconds circling the entire O zone and then scoring, and no one could take it away from him. I don't think he has the offensive or playmaking instincts to set the league on fire, but there's a very real possibility we get a Jakub Voracek like player when all is said and done. I'd like to see more scoring than that, but that's what I see when I look at him and project his growth out a few seasons.

For Lafreniere, IMO he projects best as a shooter and needs someone to get him the puck. I'm really not impressed with his playmaking abilities - outside of the occasional brilliant pass - I don't think he can do it consistently and he's not strong enough on the puck. But as a shooter, he still seems to have no idea how to get open at or between the circles and is too slow to shoot off the pass. I also want to see his shot get harder and more accurate. All of this is coachable/trainable, but he's got to work harder at these specific areas. I'd also like to see him up his compete to where it was in the playoffs and get stronger. If he can do that, he might become a 40 goal guy someday. But if he continues to coast and play undersized, he's never going to be a difference maker. IMO he'll benefit from playing with a tank who can get him the puck...that's one of the reasons I think he had good chemistry with Chytil and Kakko - both of them are strong on the puck so he doesn't have to be.

Coasting can be a byproduct of being unsure of what to do when your linemate has the puck. When Laf, Chytil and Kakko were together, none of them coasted. They knew how to play off each other.

It's been said that they don't actually have a plan on the power play and much of it is creativity and improvisation. This probably holds true 5v5 as well, outside of a few set plays off the draw and off the rush coming out of their own end. It could perhaps be that the lack of structure is hurting Laf and Kakko, who rely on structure and more conventional style play. No one will deny that Zib and Panarin can think up amazing pass plays, and let's throw Fox into this mix. They could be too unconventional and creative for Laf and Kakko. With Chytil, it's a straight up and down game and cycling in the zone, there's no east-west weaving and rink-wide hail marys for Laf and Kakko to be concerned with. They get it in the zone and they start to work off the cycle to create chances down low. With Panarin, Laf never knows what the play will be. To Kakko, Zib is just a runaway freight train with no set tracks. Kakko is slow and methodical. Zib plays at high speeds. Some might push back and say there's chemistry between Zib and Kakko. That "chemistry" might be misinterpreted as them actually trying compared with a comatose Kreider.

Good to see that no one has overreacted, panicked, despaired or proposed idiotic trades.
I didn't feel like reading any of that nonsense last night but seems my fears were TOTALLY unfounded.

So Schenider still sucks.

But maybe that's ok. We let Miller just suck playing big minutes for longer than anyone realizes and then he just got good.

Meanwhile, babying the shit out of Lafreniere and Kakko hasn't developed them.

Throw him in the water and he has to swim.

Schneider is fine. He is still developing and he is not hurting us right now.

Team look tired last night. Rest up and come out with some energy on saturday

Their season ended in mid-June.

The Oilers are barely over .500, the Avs are barely over .500, and the Lightning are in 7th place.
Please don't compare us to the Oilers. They are a two man band and will never win.

Avs and Lightning won already. They can look however they want to look because they've proven that they have what it takes. Anyway, Lightning are going through a re-tool phase. They might make the playoffs but I don't think their a true contender anymore... Maybe when Cirelli gets back but I can see them missing the playoffs.

They started mostly punting on the regular season before they won the Cup. That's how they won the Cup.

The NHL regular season is a glorified preseason.

Not sure what to do with the lines unless the coaches decide to split up Kreider/Mika. Flip Laf and Kakko I guess but not sure that will help much.

lol guys relax they got goalied tonight. 20 high danger chances to 10. 58 corsi. 4.65 xGF to 2.94. the PP is in a slump too. i know the analytics aren't everything but it probably should've been 2-0 after the 1st. the 3rd was horrible to watch but it was expected on a back to back. they're really sloppy and they're making some real dumb plays with the puck out of desperation/frustration but they're still out chancing and controlling the play.

Kreider must be hurt or something because he looks like he just started playing hockey over the summer. as bad as i've ever seen anyone.

everyone annoyed about the kids, i get it. but Kakko should've scored a highlight reel goal and Laf (who I admit was invisible) had the highest corsi of anyone on the ice tonight. it's coming.
So this year we'l be fancy stat chamos and go nowhere. Cool.

First time I saw the Rangers lose in that building. Both games i went to last year they won. There's nothing worse then walking out of there after a loss to those cheap car horns. Beep, Beep, Beep, Beep, Beeb.

I think the Isles are a team you have to score first on. The outcome could have been much different. The Gauthier play early on. Another thing of beauty, but you know that puck isn't going in. It's Gauthier...That puck just never goes in for him.

The Kakko play i thought for sure was a goal but...That one didn't beat the goalie either.

Once the Isles have that lead the Defense gets stingy. That team is still working out its identity, but I think they will figure it out.

Rangers outshot them last night. They just couldn't find the back of the net. I feel like this teams need to go on a road trip.

The time to worry is when they stop generating chances and shots. That hasn't happened yet, they will turn things around in the next few games.

Completely agree. I'm actually relatively encouraged by the start. I think they are ahead of where they were a year ago.

I think the ridiculous run Igor and the PP went on last year, as well as how loaded they were able to make the team at the TDL due to one-time cap space have really clouded expectations.
