Bc early in every season elite skill trumps d structure that hasn't settled in yet. The teams they are playing now are settling into some level of structure and those firewagon BS goals they scored aren't there. They need some meat and potatoes hockey right now with simplified pucks to the net with deflections and rebounds. Build your offense out through simplicity and fundamentals again and then the skill can come back into play. You have to have a base to your game with fundies and effort
The had 46 SOG last night against the cup champs and 41 today. They have been getting pucks to the net and creating chances. I know they need to do more but they are also a little snake bit.

Don't reference sog without context. Rick Nash took a million shots after his concussion and they weren't danger shots. A team with this skill shouldn't ever take 87shots and score 2 goals, let alone the debacle again the jackets where the only goal was a gift turnover in the slot. You can only tip your cap so many times to the opponent before you need to look internally.

Turk has a good gift of subtlety protecting his players from the media.
True. When last season was over he gave up information in interviews that contradicted the answer’s he was giving to the media throughout the year.
He’s loyal to his players.

I find that drinking heavily on weekends helps me forget these games.
What’s a weekend?

100%. A large part of that is because he was one of them and he knows what he would have wanted during his time. I also think that's a big part of why he got the job. Don't forget that the guy who hired him did the same exact stuff when he was captain of two NHL teams. There's nothing wrong with that, it's a skill to do it tactfully. But the player should realize what he's doing for them and not take advantage of it with some piss poor efforts

Better to go through this now than in May.

Also nobody pays the price to score a goal. It’s a lot of passing and soft perimeter play. They get shots, but nothing that scares you. Nobody crashes the net or goes for second chance plays.

Also this team has no third line, especially without Chytil.
Losing stinks, but the Rangers have a lot of bar out where their opponents get the bars in... We've played turtling teams the Rangers need to learn how to defeat. The Rangers really have to learn to play different tactical styles, their goalscoring can't be all off the rush or the PP.

I was convinced before camp bc I've watched him for years and I said as much the day he was signed while to rapid dogs flipped out. The contract was bad when he signed it, my opinion isn't a kneejerk to 8 games. Other teams made center changes so let's not act like it's impossible to do. The org boxed themselves in on this one and gave him term AND a high aav. Not a good mix.
They did not want to give up assets and this is the rode they chose. He was the best option available in FA unless you think Kadri would have been better. Just because you don't agree with it doesn't mean it won't work in the long term. I'm going to give it more than 8 games.

I do agree with this. They need to be better.

Thats different then stating I'm reacting to 8 games as you did originally. I don't want to be right, but I see nothing indicating that I'm wrong so far. I actually really hope I am though. I said right from the start he is a perfect 3c on a legit contender, not a 2c on a team starving for center depth. If they wanted an anti strome center for that line they should've just called Steve ruchin to replay his type role here between two skilled players. Dylan strome was sitting there to be had for almost a year and has been great. Kadri would have been hard but prob doable with a different backup to save money. They let copp walk. There were options and they picked trocheck. Let's not pretend there weren't other options.

I'm pretty confident that this is their floor. PP isn't working. Goaltending hasn't been exceptional, just good. It could always end up one of those years where everything falls flat but I don't think that's likely. They'll get out of this.

lol guys relax they got goalied tonight. 20 high danger chances to 10. 58 corsi. 4.65 xGF to 2.94. the PP is in a slump too. i know the analytics aren't everything but it probably should've been 2-0 after the 1st. the 3rd was horrible to watch but it was expected on a back to back. they're really sloppy and they're making some real dumb plays with the puck out of desperation/frustration but they're still out chancing and controlling the play.

Kreider must be hurt or something because he looks like he just started playing hockey over the summer. as bad as i've ever seen anyone.

everyone annoyed about the kids, i get it. but Kakko should've scored a highlight reel goal and Laf (who I admit was invisible) had the highest corsi of anyone on the ice tonight. it's coming.

its def not close to panic time yet but one one thing that i havent seen really brought up is the lack of virtually any production outside panarin/mika/fox/kinda trocheck. kakko and laf have flashed and looked better, kakko esp has been strong on pucks and could easily have a few more points on plays he set up but still...bottom line is they need to be regular contributors playing in those roles. nights off cant be regular and at a minimum still should be getting / creating 1-2 chances in those games that coulda/shoulda gone in. they cant just be in those spots to be outlet passes and backcheckers, they need to create. they need to be thinking that way on and off the puck.

idno if its take the kid gloves off time and gg reads em the riot act or players need to push them or whatever it is itll take to get them going, but its time the expectations rise for them. i've always defended them in terms of their age and it being too early to label them - and that remains true for now as well - but i think its time for them to feel pressure to do more. whether or not they're capable of that yet idno - by all appearances they are physically, but other than kakko 2-3 times, we haven't seen them make many plays that difference makers make - taking control of a puck, seemingly the game, and abusing a defense to score or at least force the goalie to make a ridiculous save. to be clear its not panic time or saying kakko/laf aren't any good. but thats the level they should be expected to play to, thats mentally how they need to be thinking on the ice. some nights this year to win it wont be mika or panarin or the pp combining for 4 goals. those guys will even have off games. this year there's gonna be have to be nights where laf puts up 2 and 2 or kakko has 3 and 1. 1 and 1 nights from them fairly frequently are going to be needed. they cant be in the top 6 trying to not screw up, they need to be trying to make a difference.

I don't understand what some of you posters are seeing. They look completely discombobulated. The offense is way too predictable. Lean on Panarin along the walls all the while taking away his option for the backhand pass across the middle. Don't get me started with the PP. If Mika is off we aren't scoring. Kreider forgot how to deflect shots.

I couldn’t watch too closely but from what I saw the team looks fine. Just not finishing. They’ll figure it out. They’re dominating play but not getting any puck luck and also thinking too much before shooting. The constant lineup shuffling due to injuries is not helping either.

I was sickened by the Columbus and Sharks games but I think they’re looking fine now.

I think the problem lies in the fact that they don't score a lot of "dirty" goals. They don't shoot the puck and crash the net -- they insist on using the tic-tac-toe/back door play in order to score.
