its def not close to panic time yet but one one thing that i havent seen really brought up is the lack of virtually any production outside panarin/mika/fox/kinda trocheck. kakko and laf have flashed and looked better, kakko esp has been strong on pucks and could easily have a few more points on plays he set up but still...bottom line is they need to be regular contributors playing in those roles. nights off cant be regular and at a minimum still should be getting / creating 1-2 chances in those games that coulda/shoulda gone in. they cant just be in those spots to be outlet passes and backcheckers, they need to create. they need to be thinking that way on and off the puck.
idno if its take the kid gloves off time and gg reads em the riot act or players need to push them or whatever it is itll take to get them going, but its time the expectations rise for them. i've always defended them in terms of their age and it being too early to label them - and that remains true for now as well - but i think its time for them to feel pressure to do more. whether or not they're capable of that yet idno - by all appearances they are physically, but other than kakko 2-3 times, we haven't seen them make many plays that difference makers make - taking control of a puck, seemingly the game, and abusing a defense to score or at least force the goalie to make a ridiculous save. to be clear its not panic time or saying kakko/laf aren't any good. but thats the level they should be expected to play to, thats mentally how they need to be thinking on the ice. some nights this year to win it wont be mika or panarin or the pp combining for 4 goals. those guys will even have off games. this year there's gonna be have to be nights where laf puts up 2 and 2 or kakko has 3 and 1. 1 and 1 nights from them fairly frequently are going to be needed. they cant be in the top 6 trying to not screw up, they need to be trying to make a difference.
