Boring to say but they played fine. Similar to a couple other losses where the game could’ve gone either way and we just got out goalied. Biggest concern to come out of the start of this season is Halak. Seems a step slow and might just be cooked.
And he has already played 3 of their first 8 games but if you don't score you don't win.

There really isn’t any reason for watching this:

I just want to hear what Gallant said about this mess.

I don't think the kids we have are ever going to gel with the vets we have. Stylistically they're very different, like oil and water. Some of us are calling for going top heavy with the vets and reuniting the kids.

How we stand after the next 13 games will determine if i will loose hair and get fat or relax. Not alot of games when you think about it

I know it’s just a slump but goddamn has this been frustrating to watch. And lots of shots and good analytics so it’s been good process but it really doesn’t feel like they’re playing well. It didn’t feel like Sorokin stole it tonight, he was good don’t get me wrong, but we never really felt dangerous.

PP has been too predictable and stagnant. Mika and Kreider both slumping. Trocheck is forcing it. Kakko looks okay but then disappears. Laf not doing much. Losing Chytil really hurts. We can’t have Carpenter and Reaves it really needs to be one or the other. They’re both too slow and when we don’t have Chytil’s speed on line 3 it makes both the third and fourth lines slow and plodding which makes it hard to build momentum.

Vesey and Gauthier were the most noticeable forwards (aside from Panarin who has been the only big boy to show up) and that’s not a good sign.

Halak wasn’t great but he was fine for a backup tonight. Team needs to score.
Hard to call the majority of the games this season a slump. We just are not good. Maybe we change it around, maybe we dont. But you cant call it a slump.

It's really starting to grind my gears, I watch like every other young player do at least something in their games. A shot here or there through a defender the goalie has to make a save on. A nice dangle around a defender, whatever. And here I am hoping Kakko can win a board battle just to pass it from the corner hitting off someone's skate.
and Laff is even more useless

Kakko did some of those things this game at least. Laf, not so much.

not as bad as things feel, i mean we do a lot of good things. we control play far better than we could last year we just are doing too many stupid things, and haven't figured out how to manufacture offense with these line combos. like the big picture view says we're fine. at the same time, these ruts losing 3+ cant carry on too long and cant occur more than prob 3-4 times a season to secure a playoff spot, so we need to start stacking some points soon.

part of it is just bearing down...you can see the team is on its heels at the moment, esp defensively. see lot of moments each game where guys are a hair slow to close on someone, or switch on a coverage, or decide to go for a loose puck or not - part of these slumps is mentally thinking about not making a mistake rather than playing free as a group. same thing is happening with the puck...so many double clutches making a pass, where the hesitation gives the other team that second to notice the guy in space and be in position to step up into the pass, close off the play, or adjust their gap. everyone just plays that hair slow and thats all it takes even when we get looks to be looking at a goalie set square and with the right depth vs empty nets or goalies not getting quite enough time to set themselves comfortably.

but there's actual team shortcomings that have affected them all year. one is a lack of a sparkplug. i was a huge proponent of motte for a long time last year and i think everyone saw he added something. were a fast team in how we play and generally the team speed is above average, but we have no one who plays the game in that next gear - someone who buzzes around and just causes problems hounding pucks and forcing bad passes etc...you need one of those on a roster. im not sure whats out there, but i think we need a little menace in the bottom 6 to just give us a little chaos creator to throw off the structure of games and then throw the top 6 on the ice off of that. know the cap is tight but thats one area i'd be looking to add immediately, there have to be options around that are cheap, dont need a scorer just pure speed and quickness that play that way. one name id consider is hoglander - seems to have fallen out of favor in van. if you can maybe flip a gauthier for him, mid level prospect, late pick....not sure what it would take. could be other options too even if in ahl. i think that small swap in for a reeves or vesey or carpenter every night would make a difference for the entire team. outside of that, and its been an issue forever, is we have no ability to create offense off in zone possession. panarin, sometimes kakko chytil and laf, are the only guys who ever even attempt to do anything. like if we win a puck almost no one does it with the intent to get off the wall and attack to find a shot. they sit there and wait to get hit again and try to pass a puck to the net front where there is no chance with the coverage or up the boards to a dman who isn't in a great spot to get a shot through. sometimes the d will escape to the middle but usually try a backdoor pass thats covered. panarin makes great plays to get in good spots but still gives up so many of them trying to make a pass thats clearly not there. laf has a bad habit of giving up rush chances to make a pass that has very little chance because thats what the dman is taking away. we have a bad habit of making the worst possible decision when we have a good look and we have a bad habit of being easy to defend in the zone because we make the exact play other teams are baiting us into every single time and we dont know how to use the space in the zone not to make passes to but to collect the rebounds we create with their sticks free. just one small change and turning their brains on and theyd win 10 straight easy

We've got issues. Without Chytil our bottom 6 is garbage. Our backup goalie looks old. Our D has shit the bed. Kreider is not scoring 50 goals. Laff and Kappo aren't stepping up. Kravstov sucks so bad we replace him with Gaut. Panarin and Trochek aren't clicking. The PP isn't getting it done. Gallant has no answers. We have no cap space. Not looking good.
Let up on a horrible Ducks team. Than lost 3 straight at home. Losing to the Sharks was egregious. Followed that with a 5-1 smack down to the forever mediocre Blue Jackets. Lose once again to the Av's at home and make Georgiev look like a Vezina cadidate.
For as loose as our D has been we have a whopping 5 goals in the last 4 games. Pitiful
