Well.he can't just jeep paying guys 40 %,raises
He gave Ufa contracts to restricted free agents
How the hell could he do that in a smaller Market
He is very flawed
Exactly, the contracts he gave to RFA’s were ridiculous, Marner and Mathews alone would have been 8 1st round picks if they tried to get those deals somewhere else. Coupled with our own 1sts over the last 5 years, we’d have one heck of a team today. A good GM would have given both much less and had the space to add stars.

So the team is 4th overall, the playoffs have yet to begin and your position is that Dubas is the only GM that should be fired. Interesting perspective.

I don't "stand by" anyone, I try to be objective and see both the good and the bad.

Not sure how much money spent on things outside the cap helps. My guess is that the tax laws some states have enabling them to effectively pay their players more money than we are able to do are much more of a factor and since you mentioned Yzerman, I'll mention him as well as being one of the biggest beneficiaries of this. As for him getting hired in a heartbeat, I think hiring GM's takes a bit of time - it's not like there are always open positions to be had. Too early to speculate on that anyways, he's still has a job and it's not a given he won't be extended here.
I never said that at this moment he should be fired. If they crap out in the first round yet again he should be gone immediately

Thread title says "if you had to decide now", sorry if I misunderstood your meaning.

No worries. I think my initial response to this thread was that it is basically impossible to decide now until we see what this version of Dubas’s team does

I get that, though I think there's something to be said for saying what you think of him now (well Ok, I'm pretty sure I know what you think of him now and that's fine). Put yourself in his shoes and ask yourself what you think of the moves he's made without the benefit of knowing how it turns out, it's tougher that way, but also more interesting, and more fair. I mean it's possible that what a GM does is stupid, and the team somehow wins in spite of him and the reverse is also true. It's just so sick that we've lost so many game 7's in a row, sometimes it's a fine line between winning and losing and somehow we keep getting the short end of the stick.

If we lose in the 1st round, I think he's gone no matter what anyone thinks and although I personally think he's done a good job, I'm fine with that as long as his replacement is someone really good. I guess I have some PTSD after following this team for 50+ years and seeing so many bad GM's make a mess of things that I don't have a ton of confidence in the next hire being a good one. Hopefully this team kicks ass in the playoffs and Dubas stays, we'll see.

Keefe should have been fired. Don't care what his regular season record is, he just has no answers in the playoffs and can't adapt. He also does this kinda thing: Game in 10: Maple Leafs fall apart in third period, potentially lose Ryan O'Reilly to injury in brutal loss to Vancouver

Scared to hurt feelings?

Keefe called them out after the Edmonton game, they responded against Calgary, and then the team did this in the final period against Vancouver. But they were all right back on the ice, and they were all out there for a two-plus minute shift to close the game.

Despite dressing seven defensemen – which has never really made any sense – it was Mitch Marner on the ice playing defense at five-on-five with under four minutes left. What is the point of having Erik Gustafsson in the lineup if it’s not to play in offensive situations? Otherwise, just dress Zach Aston-Reese and run four proper forward lines.

Fair enough. I think he has tried his best this trade deadline to fix some of the issues of his own making. I hope it works I truly do.

Keefe was outcoached by that florida man last year

All these years later and stil no killer instinct.
Killer instinct?! Gutless and soulless.
Almost all Leaf players are ready to accept a loss. You can see it in the eyes. Look at Tampa players when they are losing. You'll see what I call 'mad eyes'. They will kill you to get a win.
Kadri and Hyman were not ideal. But they cared. You can't lose players who care.

Wow 8 first rounders .

The main thing Dubas accomplished was icing a team by paying 4 guys 1/2 the team cap. If they don’t produce we don’t stand a chance. The rest of the team has 60 goals all season, less than a goal a game. The big 4 have to score 3 a game every game or we need stellar netminding. Doesn’t seem like a great plan.

When you put it like that, it does sound suspect. I was curious though so I looked it up and not sure where you're getting this from, but it's just wrong. The rest of the team has roughly 100 goals, that's a lot more than 60.

Were you adding players that are no longer on the roster. For example Engvall was in 5th place and he took his 12 goals with him.

Yes I included them all so 100 isn't accurate but 60 is still wrong though.

20 Bunting
14 Jarnkrok
7 Kerfoot
7 Kampf
5 Lily
5 Holmberg
5 Reese

That's 63, there are other players who have scored as well so even if you don't count Engvall, 60 is still wrong. And why wouldn't you count Engvall? Those goals don't cease to exist just because we traded him.

Well I was implying who is going to score in the playoffs, however we are more than 60 but far less than 100. I see one error I made was counting Bunting as the big 4. Lol. You know the guy many hated on last game. Our 5th highest scorer incidentally and making less than 1 million.. total might be 75 without the big 4. My mistake. Nevertheless I still believe the big 4 will have to score 3 goals per game, after all we averaged 3.5 goals per game last playoff and we lost. We may get a goal a game from the team other than the big 4.

How anybody can look at the resume of the man who has been general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs for the past five years and be impressed is beyond me.

It absolutely boggles my mind that five years of this buffonery later and there are STILL people supporting him.

What has he done?

Seriously. I really want to know. What has he done?

He brought in a bunch of cruddy defensemen, so many in fact, they can't even roster them all.

Whoop-dee freaking doo.

The team was going out in the first round just fine when they had Hainsey, Ceci, and Barrie.

How many free passes does this guy get?

I am flabbergasted, blown away, by the fact Tanenbaum allowed this to continue as long as it has. This is unacceptable and the fans should be furious, outraged, that there is a very real risk of losing Matthews to free agency. Only an incompetent fool would allow a lame duck GM like Kyle Dubas to remain in charge when the most important contract in Maple Leafs history needs to be re-negotiated.

Dubas was a failed player agent. RED FLAG!!! Maybe, just maybe, Kyle Dubas can't negotiate a contract.

When Dubas goes into the room to negotiate he has calculators, spreadsheets, and analyst reports in his briefcase.

When the agents go into the room to negotiate they have duct tape, zip ties, and Vaseline in theirs.

This is what five years of "we can and we will" has dissolved into: hoping the team wins a single playoffs series round before the Matthews contract expires.

Given they went all-in and blew all those assets, I'm going to suggest a single playoffs series round doesn't cut it. At this point, if the team doesn't make it to the cup finals, Dubas should be pounding pavement looking for a new job as soon as the final buzzer goes. Two feet and a heartbeat just like the rest of us working class slobs. Shanahan and Keefe can go with him too.

Keefe especially looks like he could use the exercise.

He is a bad GM. I mean doing a 180 from the vision he has claimed for 4+ years would win us a cup with this core pretty much tells me he wasted 4 runs with the $40m quartet. He has and is again this year mortgaging the future in an attempt to save his job with questionable goaltending. The results speak for themselves. What further proof do you need ??
Bad GMs don’t set franchise point records

Why wouldn't you add back O'Rielly (15), Acciari (11), Lafferty (10) goals back into to your math equation? That's an additional 36 goals?!!

Lol. What nonsense. Obviously the team wants to win more than a round.
