As an European, that Montreal everyone has been speaking about... where exactly in LA is Montreal located? :D
Not gonna lie, this is a hell of a commute.

As a life king kings fan I absolutely hate this deal for la

Vilardi is gonna be a star. He finally came around last year and this kids has sick hands. Amazing creativity. If he stays healthy , he’s gonna be a heck of a player.

Kupari is big and strong and can skate. Why we are tossing him in blows my mind. He’s gonna be a 20 goal guy one day.

This trade makes me sick to my stomach. Absolute over payment
Glad you hate the trade as a Kings fan, and as a Jets fan, I'm hoping it will turn out great for the Jets. If Dubois can lift his performance to be an 80 -90 point "consistent" producer, without complaining all the time, it could work out well in the long run for LA as well. As much as I see a lot of upside in Dubois, I also see a lot of downside with his fickle personality. Big big risk LA took on here, and I can see why you don't like it. The Jets really can't go wrong, as they had "limited" trading partners to unload this problem player too.

This deal for the Jets seems too good to be true, especially considering Chevy had maybe 1 or 2 teams to deal with, to dump Dubois. The way I see this deal is that if Villardi's back stays healthy, and can play regularly, this trade is a "big win" for the Jets. If his back seizes up, and unable to play regularly, then it's just an OK deal.

With PLD, it's a matter of his fickle personality for LA. If he can stay motivated and perform "consistently" then I think LA, got exactly what they needed. I would think knowing PLD, he'll be looking to get out of LA in about 2-3 years, so I'm glad he's gone. You can never win as a team, if there's players that are not content being here.

STEP 2 - Buyout or trade Wheeler ( likely buyout, maybe trade ?) He is the source of the problems in the Jets dressing room. We need a new culture this year, with new leaders emerging.

STEP 3 - Deal out Helle, because anyone that will swallow his $ 10 million dollar demand is not thinking right. He should bring in a great return with all the hype around him.( Vezina winner) We can then settle for an above average Goalie like Vegas had in Hill, and we'll be fine.

STEP 4 -- Sign or trade Scheifele. I prefer we sign him to a decent contract longer term, as we need his scoring and size down the middle, however, if he wants out, then trade him off, as you won't win as a team with "malcontents", that don't want to be here.

Chevy and the Jets have proven time and time again, they are great at assessing talent, and shrewd negotiators, and I have faith they will deal with these above uncertainties I've mentioned above. This trade with LA is a big win for the Jets, providing Vilardi's back holds up, and he can contribute regularly to the team. Well done Chevy.

He still has Helle to deal with, not to mention Wheeler and Scheifele. He not only has his back to the wall but he is in a corner.

Good start today though.
It always seems that way to us fans. We only get speculation and rumours based on speculation. Chevy gets to talk with other GMs and would have a ranking of current offers or know where there is the interest to push for a deal. After PLD I’m fine sitting back and see how the next few days play out.

Why? Because they were smart enough to not vastly overpay for a 60 pt. player?
No, because they truly believed Chevy had no leverage and would have to accept their crappy offers. They thought they’d get him for basically nothing in tradeable assets or for FREE in free agency.

That’s why we  at Montreal.

Big thank you to Pierre Luc Dubois and Pat Brisson for not being dicks.

Post of the thread.

They didn’t settle on Montreal only, broadened their teams they would go to which allowed Chevy to get a very fair deal done, lots of fake news on the “Montreal only” rumors but such is the modern age.

A little surprised to see Kings fans so down on this deal.

Well they are probably getting shit talked by the haters in Montreal who were wrong about getting PLD for free (not all their fans but a vocal minority). Then this board hasn’t really been selling PLD  , and LA gave up a player who was finally coming of age after battling injuries. Our board is really happy with the haul for good reason. If those same LA fans just review all the PLD gush fest extension talk on our board for the 1st half of the season up until January then they might feel differently.

Hey I like this deal for us but if Gabe doesn’t stay healthy LA won the trade and that is not an unlikely outcome.

Very good few weeks for Chevy none the less.

I've been wondering if the Jets now take a run at resigning Scheifele. The PLD trade was not a rebuild trade and frees up cap space. I think Helly is gone, but I wonder if Chevy takes a run at trying to sign Scheifele?

If Mark was 25 I would like to get a deal done with him warts and all. Mark’s next contract kicks in when he is 31 and is not going to age well IMO. We are not the Lightning or the Pens trying to squeeze one more cup out of a championship level core. Even if the return for Mark is modest it’s really about the future cap space for me. What I would like them to do with Mark is use his asset value to keep getting younger even if its for roster players like the PLD trade.

Could I see TNSE going into the season with 55 on the roster, yes if they can’t get a ”fair” return for him this off season. Could I see both TNSE and Schiefele wanting to do a big new deal here in Winnipeg, I give that less than 10% chance soley based on my gut instinct.

Yeah, I'm also mildly concerned with how our skaters will perform without Hellebuyck as a crutch that they've leaned on for so long.

Hopefully it forces them to play a different way but short term I can see it affecting the team very negatively.
Maybe they were lackadaisical defensively because they knew the had Helle back there to bail them out.

Hopefully the mindset changes with whoever ends up being the starter.

Dubois said the decision to sign long-term in L.A. was an easy one to make, having enjoyed the city during his travels as a player and personally.

“I’ve always been on the east coast,” he said. “I’ve always had the winters and the snow. Eight years is a long time, but there’s absolutely no doubt in my mind that this is a great decision, the right decision for me to make.”

Just me, but it kind of sounds like PLD was never going to play in Montreal.... you know because it does snow and get cold there. Sounds like PLD wanted to play somewhere where he can just put his feet up and wear shorts year round.

Pretty detailed analysis from The Athletic -- various POVs presented and most seem to agree that LA got the best player (for now) and WPG did well for value but might have done still better had they focused on futures and now roster. Here's Dom L:

At the same time … there’s a question to be asked regarding why this was the package the Jets went for. The writing seems to be on the wall in Winnipeg with Dubois being only the first shoe to drop. This deal feels like a hockey trade meant to keep Winnipeg competitive when it’s arguable that the trade should’ve been much more future-focused. Vilardi is good and young, but it’s unlikely he’ll fit the team’s current timeline and trajectory.

There’s good and bad on both sides with reasons to like and dislike what either team did. It just depends on how you look at it.

Here's Shayna G:

Losing Dubois obviously hurts the Jets right now considering he had a really strong bounce-back year. It’s just one of likely a few moves to come that will shake up the core in Winnipeg, something sorely needed.

Iafallo brings back some defensive upside for a team that could use it in Winnipeg. But the real star of this deal is Vilardi. As long as he stays healthy, he looks to have a bright future at both ends of the ice. Already he’s shown some solid defensive play, and he’s starting to blossom offensively. T
here’s potential for him to become a key part of the next era of Jets hockey, if the rest of the team can be adequately retooled around him.

Can't fault anyone for wanting that, i would love to have a yearly golf membership that actually is 12 months not 6 . I was pumped when we got Dubois, we were set down the middle for years but there were just too many games where Dubois was playing but was invisible out there. This was a great trade by Chevy and we might get another good player with the 2nd round pick also.

LA is great if you’re good at hockey but don’t really care if you win or not… or even if you don’t really like playing hockey to begin with. There’s a ton of things to spend your millions on, great looking women, celebrities everywhere, a climate that can’t be beat, anonymity, and a lot less pressure to win from the community. It’s amazing they ever built a team that won the cup.

It’s the hockey slacker’s paradise, which is why PLD will love it there.

I’m not sure let is the right word. I’m guessing they would like him at a certain number but so will other teams. He may be a player you need to pay a Winnipeg premium to stick around.
I would do it.

One of my favourite players in the playoffs last year. Plays such a smart game and I really appreciate it. Would rather him play #1 C than Scheif personally.

I remember when the Jets went with Steen as their main guy. He was leading the league (i think) for a lot of the year and then his soft back got soft. The Jets 1.0 said he would/could have been as good a #10 if his back wasn’t the issue.

Anybody else remember it like that….or am I remembering it wrong.

I hope this isnt Steen 2.0

Just thinking about line-ups with these additions (and Wheeler removal)

Connor-Scheifele-Ehlers
Niedereiter-Vilardi-Perfetti
Iafallo-Lowry-Appleton
Barron-Kupari-Stenlund

Not bad! Now, I wonder what happens if we trade Scheifele. Perfetti and Vilardi as top 6 centers?

I had proposed Dubois to Boston for Swayman and Lysell. Maybe we do that for Scheifele... perhaps at 50% retention (to further help Boston's salary cap) and add that 2025 first rounder?

Then, whatever we get for Hellebuyck is gravy (1st round draft pick for this draft + something?)

With no Scheifele...

Connor-Vilardi-Niedereiter
Iafallo-Perfetti-Ehlers
Barron-Lowry-Appleton
XXX-Kupari-Stenlund

Hmm... I guess this is early. Just fun to speculate with three forwards coming back and plugging them in.
I think the Jets still try to keep Namestnikov

Just checking in to see if Habs fans are still huffing copium over another fils de La Belle Province not signing with their team.

A lot of the fans are coming across like PLD was playing for the Habs and Habs management traded him away for nothing. ( He was never yours so get over it ) That's how butt hurt they are. That and if you were born in Quebec you should only be playing for Montreal and anything else means you are a traitor.
