Only issue is Vilardi didnt play center in LA. Not sure if he's going to be a center here either. Hearing foot speed is his main issue. If he cant we really need Perfetti to make it as a center or weve got some problems.
I don't know about that, watching him in this years playoffs he didn't look slow to me.

Kings fan coming in peace. Think you guys got the better end of this deal, though if PLD takes the next step and remains consistent, maybe we can revisit. Something I posted on the main board that I'll paste here:

I'm higher on Kupari than most Kings fans, and I predict he'll do well as a bottom 6er in the 'Peg. Change of scenery and a different voice in his ear will help. Kings botched his development. I think he can top out as someone you can build a 4th line around or be an integral part of a good 3rd line.

I admit I haven't watched enough of you guys* to know much about your bottom 6 and PK needs, but that's what he can help the most with.

*didn't help that our games against each other were straight up bonkers last year. Tons of momentum swings, chippy plays, wild goals, etc.

I think we will need to wait until the other trades are made to see if there is any room for him

It also might be dependent on cap. We may not have $2 to 2.5 million to spare for a 4th line guy. We will just have to wait and see. I'd like him back though but we already have about 10 million tied up on the third line.

I mean outside of faceoffs Perfetti essentially plays like a C on the ice. What would be all that different in his game converting him. He already has the reads and positioning down. They can have him and Vilardi switch in the dzone if need be depending on the opponent.

Also foot speed isn't as big of a deal if your mind is ahead of the play and you are in the correct positioning. It's why Crosby is still all world despite being significantly less explosive then he was in his prime.

Yeah I'm not gonna write either one of them off based on their skating. Vilardi has a bit more size going for him over Perfetti. Perfetti has some insane passing ability that is massively underrated and we are just scratching the surface on it so maybe it doesn't really matter. They can just pull switches. Vilardi being a righty while Perfetti is a lefty could allow them to just have a bit of a free flowing C/RW style and we can just plug and play on the LW as we see fit.

That's why I like a line of Iafallo - Vilardi - Perfetti. Two offensive minded players who can put the puck in the net and a gritty trench warfare kind of player that is good at recovering pucks and playing in the corners and also has a solid two-way game,

I was gonna post in the Kings board asking why folks are so down on the extension - The trade is what it is, and I understand being not too happy about the assets going out the door, but I'm baffled at people saying 8.5x8 is too much.

I'd have loved to get PLD at that number.

Kings fan here, very unhappy with this trade.

Vilardi started his career at center but had a very difficult time with the demands of the position thru the neutral zone. He doesn't have speed over distance, but from the dots in he has very quick, sudden movement to gain separation. That was the biggest change to his game that allowed him to break out last year - he found out how to get the timing right to get his shot away.

Prior to that he played more of a perimeter Getzlaf like style. It was the change to wing that allowed him to have a much bigger influence on the teams offense. I don't think an 80 point aeason next year is out of the question. He loves to score and his hands in tight are spectacular. Ironically his game on the wing is very similar to Corey Perry, minus the shenanigans.

Losing Iafallo is a huge bummer. He can play from first to third LW, with good hands. He is a terrific forechecker - the best board play and penalty killing winger on the team. Scored clutch goals. Not fast, not slow, but excellent at stripping pucks and takes great angles in the neutral zone. Shocked we moved him. Newer or less involved fans don't appreciate players like him. We will miss him dearly.

Kupari has great tools, blazing speed, good hands, the occasional willingness to throw a big hit, but has been a victim of the Kings piss poor developmental team that is trying to force talented young players into roles they are not suited for just to get them in the lineup. His best use would be as a 3rd line winger, but McLellan kept forcing him into the 4c with less talented players so nearly every thing he does is of a one on one nature, lots of wide drives before cutting to the net without looking for other options. He may need some deconditioning time before you really see what he can and cannot do - it had been made very clear to him that if he wanted to be a part of the Kings that he would need to curb his offensive instincts and take a more defensive approach, and thats just not his game.

Thanks for the comments. Dubois can be a force and take over games. He did that most of the first half and game one of the playoffs. He just hasn't yet been able to put that together for a full year. Hopefully for you guys he's able take that step.

With regards to Vilardi do you think he's destined to be more of a Mark Stone type winger or do you think he can move back to the middle as an everyday top 6 C?

As a life king kings fan I absolutely hate this deal for la

Vilardi is gonna be a star. He finally came around last year and this kids has sick hands. Amazing creativity. If he stays healthy , he’s gonna be a heck of a player.

Kupari is big and strong and can skate. Why we are tossing him in blows my mind. He’s gonna be a 20 goal guy one day.

This trade makes me sick to my stomach. Absolute over payment

I can understand that feeling but assuming that Dubois is finally happy with his location and commits to playing like he can you guys are getting a helluva player. A game-changer. That assumption is the risk factor. On our side the risks are both Vilardi's ongoing health and whether or not he can play C. So risk on both sides.

Yeah he does seem like a good fit. As per Kings fans he's great on the forecheck, can defend and had good enough hands and instincts to convert. That is what those two need imo, someone who can win pucks and get to the net.

I’m not sure let is the right word. I’m guessing they would like him at a certain number but so will other teams. He may be a player you need to pay a Winnipeg premium to stick around.
Suffice to say I just don't see him playing for the Jets this upcoming season

The biggest problem we Kings fan have is that the team had soooo much promise coming out of the rebuild but or GM has butchered it. He listened to Kopitar and Doughty's complaints and used the cap space they gained by selling vets to, well, buy more vets. None of the kids have been used in a way to maximize their development, they have been squeezed into spots they have never played - 6 straight first round drafted centers and none of them had been given the patience to develop. Kaliyev on the 4th line with plugs, top defensive prospects shelved for worse players with guaranteed deals.

Its a self-destroying cycle: kids can't be trusted in top spots since the goal is to contend now, but they are put into spots further down the lineup where the team badly needed some real veteran role players to help their brutal PK and boardwork to grind out wins.

Vilardi FINALLY broke thru past year, the first recent pick to do so. We were proud of him and can see where he is headed, and now he is gone. Its a huge bummer to see what could have been.

Really hoping that Dubois can work out his consistency issues (he is either on or not). I think if he can find a way to be a beast more often than he has, then this will turn into a win-win for both teams.

Yeah, at his age he may want to parlay his play last year here into a bigger role and pay day. We likely would want him for 4C at 4C rates.

I think Chevy did well, considering the corner he was painted into. But to me, why does he keep gettIng painted into a corner? Why is there a parade of good players wanting out? Can we chalk it all up to the Winnipeg disadvantage of being an undesirable small market, or is something else going on with the culture? That Chevy has ignored and let fester?
