Why is it every stupid team we’re directly competing against has at least a game in hand on us? The only exception is Columbus who has played the same amount. Swear to f*** it’s like this every season.

I remember last year it was Boston who always seem to have a game in hand on Toronto, when they showed the standings at how close the Leafs were to them in points.

I think the Babcock hole is pretty understated. It's not just about league standings. We had amassed more games than any other team. By point percentage, we were one of the worst teams in the league. We were competing with teams like Ottawa and Detroit.

With that said, the backup issue became bigger than I ever thought. I'm a big fan of Dubas' work so far, but he needs to own that. I understand that we basically had a goaltender who should be around a 0.900 sv% backup, and you need to make decisions on projections like that or you're liable to overreactions. My counter-point is that you could quickly see that Hutchinson is a goaltender who gets rattled when really challenged and when things go against him, and that's going to happen on a high-event team. The fit was bad. That should have been addressed earlier.

Let's see if Campbell can provide stability and help us get back into the playoffs.

We have a 5 game stretch in March that's crazy:

Islanders, CBJ, Florida, Tampa, Carolina

That's 4 of our biggest competition and then Tampa who's pulled away

I said this before and I will say it again. Since the Islanders went on 15 game point streak this season, the fact they are now in a Wild Card race makes them even worse compared to how Toronto currently is.

Florida down a goal going into the 3rd in a big game...

Get scored on 17 seconds in, then take a penalty, then make a horrible change and allow a shorthanded goal a couple minutes later.

Imagine the meltdown we would be experiencing here. It's important to remember that other teams aren't perfect either.

And all of this with a 10M goalie in the net. The meltdown would be epic. :amazed:

Huge loss for the Panthers. cancels our stinker against the rangers. Win tommorrow and satourday and pray for a Panthers loss and weve made up 3 of the 4 points we were behind going into the all star break. Thank God the Panthers play the pens who will probably look for a win after they probably lose to the bolts.

The only negative tonight is that Montreal won in overtime and if the worst happens which is them defeating Toronto on Saturday in regulation, they will be 2 points behind us in the standings.

If the leafs win tomorrow night, even if Montreal wins Saturday in regulation, they would be 4 pts behind us

Since Toronto is getting Anaheim on a back to back hopefully that will help. However on Saturday Toronto is on the second night of their back to back and Montreal will be rested, which sucks because their previous two games against the Canadiens the Leafs played the night before and Montreal did not.
