Playoff Keefe

Who cares how many regular season points they got? If you can't get it done in the playoffs, as far as the Leafs are concerned, it's time to find someone who can.
Let me put on my owners lens...

Yes I want to win, and badly, but not sabotaging a top of the league perennial playoff team...when there is no guarantee the next guy gets us there.

If you think the next guy will for sure take us to the promise land, all ears...make your case. If it's just for the sake of change, gtfo of my office.

Time to move on from keefe. He’s gets in his own way with idiotic lineup changes.

I would ditch Keefe and throw lots of money at Barry Trotz. But then again, I don’t think the core should be off the hook either.

Roster construction is all on Dubas. Its not Keefes fault that hes forced to shoehorn Tavares and Nylander together because of their salaries.
Line 1 (Bunting/Matthews/Marner) and 3 (Engvall, Mik, Kapf) are constructed properly while lines 2 (Kerfoot/JT/Nylander) and 4 (Blackwell/Spezza/Kase/Simmonds/Clifford) are a mish mash of spare parts.

I would ditch Keefe and throw lots of money at Barry Trotz. But then again, I don’t think the core should be off the hook either.
While I agree, Dubas will never fire his buddy. The entire management group (Shanny incl) needs to be canned.

Washington had to get rid of McPhee to take another step. Definition of insane is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. The core pieces are their for a new GM if that’s the route the Leafs go this summer granted a 6th straight first/second round playoff loss. He botched your cap situation pretty badly signing Tavares and going into the playoffs with only Campbell as your option in goal should be firable offences.

He’s starting to learn that you can’t use spreadsheets alone to build a team. It’s unfortunate that he hamstrung himself with rookie mistakes that have stopped the much better version of himself from really building a team.

And making stupid statements like the promise never to trade Nylander.

Yep da whole gang needs to go if they lose again .. Shanny on down see ya .. da players will all be there for da retool .. biggest shift will be to use one of forwards to create space and add a tender and a defender to balance team out .. JT would be da guy but he won't play ball .. so likely it will be Willy and/or Mitch .. after last years playoffs i would have picked Mitch to go but based on this years play maybe i choose Willy .. but either way one of 2 is gone on da retool .. need a #1 tender and a #1-3 defender .. and new GM needs to draft a 2C in this 2022 draft which there are some really fast guys available .. shift JT to left wing in off season .. a few trades and a draft and team will play more like a playoff team capable of a contender run

Easier to find a winger that will work with JT IMO. Willie is not it. His allergies to corners/contact was evident last night.

Is it time to split up Matthews and Marner to get other players going. Marner to the second line to get Tavares going?

Trotz isn't a good fit for the way this roster is constructed. His systems stiffle offense and suffocate you defensively while relying on all 4 lines playing grind it out hockey.

You might as well move all of Matthews/Marner/Nylander/Rielly if you bring in a coach like that.

That's why ge was the perfect fit for that Islanders roster, his team just aged very quickly on him.

As they showed with babs they're pretty uncoachable. Unless you let them play golf and it's candy land they'll give up and go cry to management

I don't think it is even a winger issue anymore .. it is just Tampa is way too fast and big for him .. i gotta a feeling he might be better against a Caps team .. but he is getting blown bye in races up and down ice as puck transitions .. he is losing every 5 foot race for a loose puck .. he is getting boxed out of net front area ... our D can't find him as he can't get open for a pass .. this is not a small fix .. what I am saying is he can't be a C against Tampa against any of their Cs .. and then he starts cheating in his own end in 3rd period to create an opening which created da goal .. for me i would droop him down to 4C with Cliffy and Wayner and play him minimum amount possible

Keefe for sure. Dubas I'm on the fence with, but I think he's too emotionally attached to this core to make a bold move or 2. and it may be time for someone else to right the ship.
The issue is they're sift because they do whine in his office and undercut the coach. Dubas can go if they lose this

Also the " they have the most difficult seeding" excuse is bullshit. They lost to one of the worst regular season teams in playoff history last year.

They had a f***ing Amazon doc following them around because they knew it was an easy road and still choked

Why would he say no? ....no one needs remind him that's he is going to be booed out of town if continues to play like a horses ass and taking punches from Sergachev when the game is done.

But you know how loyal Dubas is to his players. I don't see any scenario Kyle even approaches Tavares with that question. Especially the part about being booed out of town. That would be completely classless for any GM.

And if somehow that conversation came up, say Tavares wants out or simply agrees, good luck moving that contract. I'm sure there are a (very) few teams out there that wouldn't mind an $11M/PPG player for three years, and can take that AAV even with retention, but they'd have all the leverage in any deal.

Theres never any guarantees. But the guy who.built this team clearly didn't build it for playoff success. Rookie gm who is far too . loyal. Everyone is scared to.trade a core piece or fire Dubas in case they do well somewhere else. f*** that. Be the Raptors and don't accept anything but winning.

Kyle won't do it and neither will his successor. JT would have to ask himself and he won't do that.
