Liljegren is low key a #3 D and he will prove it this year. People just have a massive bias towards offence over defence so he got fleeced on his deal but Lilly can defend in a Brodie like manner.

Rielly is a #3 D worth 5-6 million getting paid 7.5 million a year. Liljegren is a #3 D worth 4.5 million getting paid 1.4 because of people's perceived value vs actual value and the bias to overrating offence and underrating defence.

Muzzin was solid in the playoffs but our worst Dman during the regular season.

I'll agree with you there.....with the caveat that once he finally took the proper time off to heal up, he was excellent when he returned for the last stretch of the regular season in April, and then carried that through the playoffs.

This is emotional.

I claimed Rielly is worth 5-6 million and is a #3 d-man. Even if you think he's worth his contract at 7.5 million (which is fine if it's your opinion) my estimated value was only 1.5 million less then his contract which is a marginal difference form what he's actually getting paid. So the worst post you've ever seen is me stating he's worth 1.5 million less then what he's getting paid? Give me a break. Also, If he was an elite #1 he would have got 9-10 million.

I don't actually dislike Rielly I think he's a very solid d-man. He's an elite playmaker, great on the rush, ridiculous speed and he know's how to get points and find his teammates. He's great at getting out of dangerous situations and makes a smart first pass.

The reason I think he's not a #1 is because he has difficulty clearing defenders from the front of the net. He isn't great at defending 2 on 1's, he almost always messes up the correct timing of when to slide. He also has a pretty weak point shot and his scoring is limited to scoring on the rush or the odd goal from the point. But he is great at playmaking and his speed creates opportunities.

Liljegren is better defensively. Actually I think all 3 of Brodie, Giordano, Liljegren are superior defensively. I think Muzzin is better defensively as well but i'm unsure about his health status. So basically he's our 5th best defensive d-man, maybe even 6th.

That sucks :/ However, when healthy we do have 7 quality NHL dmen (Rielly, Brodie, Muzzin, Liljegren, Gio, Sandin and Holl), and two other borderline NHLers (Mete and Benn), so despite Lily and Benn both being LTIRed, we're still in decent shape.

I do think Lily is an important dman for us, but there's no need to rush him back. Realistically things would only start to get desperate if one of Rielly/Brodie, or 2 of Muzzin/Gio/Sandin/Holl/Mete also got injured, with Lily and Benn both still out as well. We've got the depth to give Lily time to fully heal before coming back.

Sweet! Too bad he can’t come off LTIR until November 5th, but if he’s ready for the AHL, he’s gotta be pretty good to go. Sounds good for him being healthy and ramped up by November 5th! Our D could certainly use him, especially with Muzz out long term.

Thought it'd be later in November but great news. he'll be back as soon as he gets through the conditioning stint. Looked good last night from the highlights I saw. He'll help out the D a lot. Hopefully this is the year he really takes off.
