Hmm...Jets have just signed Kyle Connor after only one season....will be interesting to see what Boeser does....after all, the University of North Dakota is hardly Harvard, Yale or Boston College.....if it's a degree the guy wants, there's lots of ways to get it and still play pro hockey.

Pre-marketing is a really tough degree to get, and give you lots of job prospects in the future. Plus I heard UND has the best pre-marketing program west of the Andies.

His choice is probably to play for Utica or UND next year. I can see the attraction of staying the year in College and trying to repeat and then coming straight to the NHL the next year. Next year is a development year for him in any event.

Good decision by him. Club will suck almost as bad next year anyway. Best to stay away. Avoids the McCann/Virtanen second guessing and we'll get a more polished player in a year. Mike Bossy didn't suffer any by waiting until twenty to be in the show.

Not sure about that Demko kid though... :scared:

Canucks are in ok shape in regards to signing Boeser. He is not going to play 4 years of college hockey.

Demko, we need signed asap.

Couldn't disagree more.

I think the negativity of the situation here has been completely overblown.

Secondly, I also think that people really underestimate the positives that college hockey and college life can garner. Even if there wasn't the new challenge of the rest of that top line and the top defencemen likely leaving and BB having to be the guy and to mentor younger players, there are still a lot of life skills to be learned from living away from home and having to balance school and sport. It makes for a more well rounded person - think how mature college guys like Bieksa and Schneider seem in comparison to the average NHL'er

As for Demko, that draw of finishing the final year and getting the degree over and done with has to be a big one because even for a top end prospect making a career in the NHL is never a certainty. With that in mind having a degree to fall back on makes a lot of sense. That being said, I do hope Demko signs now since he could always go back in the summer and get the degree done a la Schneider.

The only thing I agree with is that there will be uproar in Vancouver if Boeser doesn't have as good a year next year. The bar has been set very high.

the thinking is different for a top athlete though when it comes to the perks of having a degree. Vesey's degree will be a Harvard one so I get that. Athletes have a shorter timeframe to make their millions, so it makes sense to leave college early to turn pro. If Demko goes back, it does speak volumes of what he thinks of our franchise, and we have enough grounds to consider trading him lest he becomes Vesey 2.0

Brock has to work on his skating. That is the main thing he needs to improve to increase his chances if being a top player in the NHL. So, I think it is better to do that playing 40 games in college and work on off ice and on ice techniques.

Not sure if playing 70 AHL games would have been the best way to work on one's skating.

Agreed. It just makes no sense to go back to College when hes prooven the world how great he can be PLUS he won there championship its time to come to the big leagues Brock. Whether he signs with us in the future this not a good sign at all im now a lil worried about him. Up until today i though we had the biggest steal of the 2015 draft as he easy could of gone top 7 or 8 or even higher

He isn't ready

And you know this how?

There are many players who are drafted and make the NHL in their Draft +1 year. He had better stats than Jonathan Toews, Toews went on to record almost a ppg in the NHL in his Draft +2 year.

He had better stats than Dylan Larkin in his Draft +1 year, Larkin went on to have 23 goals in his first year in the NHL.

Point being, that NONE of us know how he would have played in the NHL, but this decision doesn't give anyone the chance to find out for next season. *I* am actually ok with this.... but I see far too many people here give the "Not ready" when people simply don't know.

Many high-end prospects make it in the NHL in their Draft +2 year. NOBODY thought Ben Hutton was going to make the jump he did, and yes I do know that he's a different position, one that is usually harder to break into the NHL with, and also didn't come over after his Draft +1. The point being that NOBODY knew what to expect.

I think Boeser has been exceptional in the NCAA, however I think he'd learn a lot more next season playing in the AHL than he would have in the NHL. I think the Canucks would have been better able to watch him and help with his development in the AHL if he didn't actually make the NHL.

Again though, I'm not upset he stayed for one more year at NCAA. As a student myself, albeit much much older, I can understand the importance of a good education.

It's in Boeser's best interest to turn pro now. He's already set the new record for points since Parise, had a huge championship series (4 points in 1 game) and ultimately got the big prize. There's little reason to expect him to duplicate such as strong season next year in College.

Not signing this year raises a lot of questions for Canucks management given the uncertainty of Demko at the same time.

It's not the end of the world, but I'd prefer that he had turned pro.

Has literally nothing else to prove at this level and needs a new challenge. Oh well.

No it doesn't, Boeser has 3 more year of College available before he can go UFA, Demko only 1.

Besides, with him delaying his pro contract by one year, that means he will be a year older and better when he signs his 2nd contract, which is when he will really start making money. I think he ends up making more money doing it this way. He will have probably 2 years of NHL experience under his belt when he signs his 2nd this way. If he turned pro next year, odds are pretty good most of next year would be spent in Utica, leaving only 1 year of NHL experience to cash in on.

There's reason to believe he's ready now and could challenge for an NHL spot this season. He could easily be the Hutton of 2015.

His skating isn't at the NHL level, even if he turns pro now he'll be in the ahl. People are silly if they think he can jump right into the NHL right now

Lol at people who are stressing in this thread.

I am really happy he is going back to college. I dont want him here while we are tanking and WD is coaching.

I want Boeser to be ready when he turns pro so he doesnt get treated like Virtanen and McCann.

People need to relax. He will 100% sign after next year.
