Or we trade for Lucic at 50% and the 8th overall for Toffoli, then buy out Lucic. Here would be our actual cap hits:

2019-20: $1,812,500
2020-21: $2,812,500
2021-22: $2,062,500
2022-23: $2,812,500
2023-24: $312,500
2024-25: $312,500
2025-26: $312,500

Four years of a manageable cap hit for a great piece. Or hang on to him and hope for a compliance buyout.

Now what if we got two of Byram / Turcotte / Cozens / Dach / Caufield / Podkolzin / Zegras?

If there was any universe in which the Oilers would do this, that'd be an epic move by Blake. Maybe with their last GM this would work, I doubt Holland is dumb enough.

At 2:00 minutes into the video:

The skill is evident.

I think Kempe is a key for this team because he has skill. It's like a guy with tools but no toolbox. I guess you could say that for hundreds of players. If Kempe could maximize his skill, he would fill a void that this team needs in the scoring department. I look at him sometimes and he looks like a 30 goal guy. Other times, he looks like a player who is just punching the clock and is disinterested in the game.

In the Worlds Sweden has Kempe playing RW. He looks pretty good on that side.

He's left handed. We generally think about him as a LW/C, but some players do better playing on thier "off" wing.

Sweden must have a coach who gets the most out of his players.
...or a team with four competent centers not named Kempe.

Kempe's board play in the NHL hasn't been the greatest. With the wider international rink it doesn't have to be as good. He is at his best in open ice, not along the boards.

Wait, so you mean to tell me he'd be best at LW:thumbu:

I would say Kempe either needs to watch hours of video of Justin Williams and improve his board play, or he needs to spend hours with Stoll and improve his faceoff skills.
He did that last season. Face-offs didn't improve much though.

The problem I still see with this roster is that the Kings have to give their best offensive players primary defensive duties because there's no secondary players that can be relied on.

For example, Patrice Bergeron who's hailed as the best defensive center in the NHL, had 58.8% OZ starts this year. Kopitar's OZ starts were 41.4%. Bergeron also played 18min per night while Kopitar played 22min.

The Kings top players look tired all the time because they are.

The King's need another center that can take some defensive duties, win face-offs, kill penalties and can be relied on to start shifts in the defensive zone. I like Kempe but he's not that guy. Hopefully Prokhorkin can be, but that's asking a lot for a guy who's never played in the NHL.

I tend to always go back and read scouting reports for our younger guys and the one thing that was said of Kempe was that he lacked hockey sense and IQ... Kempe just hasn’t shown much improvement really, I thought he could be a Michael Grabner but he looks to be a Tobias Rieder...

This is a result of having a terrible bottom 6.. we have fast, physical, young hungry guys.. that’s who needs to start in order for guys like Kopi and the rest to have their minutes reduce and hopefully have their production return to norms..

Rieder isn’t good enough to tape Kempe's stick.

It's funny you mention that since I think the Kings will actually attempt this. I speculate they would love to get Byram who is emerging as the third best player. The Hawks don't need a d-man based on their previous drafts and could still get their guy at #5. I can't see Byram getting past the Avs, Toffoli might be a little much to move up two spots but if we got an additional asset, I'd be all over something like this.
I think you’re over valuing Toffoli’s value at this point. I think we’d be doing extremely well if they took Toffoli to let us move to 3OA. If Blake got them to add he’d be GM of the year before the season even starts.

Kempe has a career 11% shooting percentage, which isn't bad. Unlike the sub 10% folks he typically gets to be linemates with. Combine it with his other physical gifts and like others have said, it's way too early to think he's actually hit his ceiling at 22.

We don’t have many guys that slot in nicely anywhere. We have a team of question marks. Is Kempe a top line wing? Second or third line center? What about Wagner? Why is Iafallo on the top line? How about Grundstrom? Is Luff good enough to be a top six guy or defensively responsible enough to fill out the bottom six? Is Amadio a third or fourth line center? Brown has picked up the points but is he really top line material? Will Vilardi ever play again?

And don’t even get me started on our nightmare of a defense past Doughty.

Thats different this year, though. Which only makes your example/reasoning stronger, btw. Traditionally Bergeron's line got similar deployment to Kopitar. Now they're freed up to run amok. Relatively, of course, since they're still playing top lines.

Kubalik signs with Hawks. I wonder what the real reasons are that he didn't want to sign with LA.

same deal with Proks... DL and CDS had their philosophies about non guaranteeds to kids and it cost us Kubalik, though Futa was able to convince Proks
