Has anyone heard any news about Vilardi? That's the biggest question I'm wanting answered this offseason. It feels like a huge setback for the org if he isn't able to overcome his injuries, and a huge disappointment for him personally. All that talent, so close to his NHL dream, but his back just wont hold up.

I'd say don't put Vilardi is any projection you have for the roster, until at the very least he gets through a training camp without missing any days. Whatever they say about him, it's all noise until he can stay on the ice. He doesn't have much of a cap hit if he can play, so even that doesn't have to be factored into anything to try and make him fit.

Does everyone think that Brods is gone? That shoulder injury really killed his shot to show he deserved a spot on the roster.

He was already lower on the depth chart before the injury. Brown isn't going anywhere. Toffoli and Lewis probably aren't either yet. Maybe Carter moves over to wing. Luff is there, and younger than Brodzinski. Wagner played a little RW. Grundstrom is probably able to play both wings too.

Even if he re-signed, as it stands right now, how much time is he going to get to score?

Im trying to figure out how this will a play out i regards to our forwards next season and the competition should be fierce... I expect Amadio to excel in camp again and finally earn his role, same for Wagner...
Some of you seem to think Grundstrom is a lock on teh 3rd line??? the kid didnt really do anything special and starting the season in Onatrio wouldnt be the worse thing for his development es[ecially with Prokhorkin coming over... So i came up with this;

Kovalchuk - Kopitar - Brown
Prokhorkin - Carter - Toffoli
Kempe - Amadio - Wagner
Iafallo - Anderson-Dolan - Lewis
Clifford - - Luff... Who exactly does Grundstrom takeover for if zero tardes are made??

Brickley - Doughty
Forbort - Martinez
Phaneuf - Roy/Walker/LaDue
MacDermid

Quick/Petersen... I think Campbell gets moved and turns into another Darcy Kuemper

I think Kempe starts at 2nd line C with Carter on the wing if not one is added

After hat we've seen I just dont understand why they would still want Kempe at C.. He brings nothing there, he is a LW and is most effective as a LW. I dont think Carter is being moved out of 2C.
Prokhorkin can play C but is a dynamic LW, Amadio can play RW but is a really good 3C option... Iafallo can probably play C as could JAD so who knows...

I just think with a passer like Amadio, having big, fast, skilled wingers like Kempe and Wagner would be a nightmare for opposing 3rd lines... Also, with Prokhorkin coming Iafallo is likely getting replaced with Kovy so he'll be where he belongs on the bottom 6

You can say the same thing about JAD, who is basically 2 years younger than Grundstrom, but you have him in there. The jump from junior to the NHL isn't an easy one, 4th line or not. Grundstrom has 57 AHL games, and 26 AHL playoff games, along with 15 NHL games, to his name. JAD has 5 AHL and NHL games, along with 3 AHL playoff games. If we're guessing as of today, a case can be made that Grundstrom is more likely than JAD.

Prokhorkin has never played a second of NHL hockey, let alone done anything special in a NHL game, and he's on your 2nd line.

Until shown otherwise, assume Kempe is playing C. They seem intent on it, but, have to wait and see what TM does with him.

I threw JAD in there as a place holder really... Clifford-Iafallo-Lewis would be a better 4th line
Both Grundstrom and JAD need a little more seasoning in the AHL as well as a few trades to get their spots..
As for Prokhorkin, not neing in the NHL before is just an excuse to rag on the guy... He is uber talented, has played well for Russia in tourneys against NHL players and his KHL stats do translate quite well ... It doesnt take a genius to see the talent he is bringing over..

when carter is out the 2nd line has been more productive is all I know. At this point it is more about moving Carter out of that spot than it is moving Kempe into it. If Prokhorkin can grab the #2C spot great, I just am not overly confident that we want that either.

I know what happened last season and the same can be said about the results with Toffoli.. I'm willing to roll the dice with Carter at center and see what happens.. as for Kempe, they really need to stop forcing him to be Center.. he doesnt win FOs, his maturity is lacking as is his hockey IQ and honestly the kid is so much better at LW were he doesnt have to think so much.. Prokhorkin is a LW, it be a mistake to force him into the 2C role without him adapting to the smaller rink and speed of the NHL first..

Iafallo has taken 54 faceoffs in 2 years, winning 39% of them. He's likely as much an NHL center as Kempe or Lewis are.

Not ragging, he's just not played in the league. Stats don't always translate between leagues. Everyone's favorite Kevin Dallman has put a damn fine KHL career together. He never cracked the roster of even an average NHL team.

Quick will always be one of our favorite Kings players that we will love forever but if there is ever a season where he needs to be traded it’s this one . Petersen and Campbell can hold down the net better than they will be given credit for . Quicks style doesn’t fit with the Kings new style anymore . We will clear 5.8 million in cap space as well. Brickley will not make the team I actually think Anderson will make the team out of camp . He’s going to be a good one why not start with this year . There have been several players like Carlo and Mcavoy and other who have made the jump quicker and played big roles on their teams .

Also Prokhorkin supposedly is going to play center so Kempe will be center and I believe Carter will move to wing so he can use his speed and shot again . I think he will recover and bounce back , if Williams and Pavelski and Thornton can put up numbers at their age Carter shouldn’t have a problem doing so . He’s in better shape and 1 year removed from a huge injury . It’s going to be an interesting offseason and camp for sure

It's also the toughest year to try and trade him. He's older than he's ever been, he had a terrible season, he's still owed $7m real dollars next year, and he's still signed for 3 additional seasons after next year. That is not as easy player to trade, and especially if he's a goalie, where you either play, or you sit on the bench.

The best thing that could possibly happen to the Kings is that Gabe Vilardi is ready to play next season.

Kovalchuk - Kopitar - Brown
Carter - Vilardi - Toffoli
Grundstrom - Kempe - Wagner
Clifford - Amadio - Iafallo

Really wouldn’t mind seeing Kovalchuk, Carter, and Toffoli leave either.

I actually kind of like our forward group. There's an optimistic case that can be made for them.

If they're motivated to perform. Over the past few years, we've seen them at their best, and at their worst. The lesson to be learned here? Don't set any expectations with how Kings forwards will perform. My fantasy hockey strategy of avoiding picking up Kings forwards has worked successfully as a result of this ;)

I agree. There's absolutely depth and redundancy and youth pushing for spots. That's all nice. The question this season isn't that, imo, but if the top-six can return to form or at least hold their own. Doesn't matter if your bottom six are crushing the opposition if your top scorer ends with 60 points.
