I wouldn't call him a surprise pick (my dark horse pick) but Mikey Anderson should win a spot on the blue line this offseason.
Several people have said this. It's not impossible, but I really hate the idea of it. Let's take our time with him and let him develop. Let him play a full year in the AHL. If he plays great maybe give him a few games at the beginning or end of the season (not enough to burn a year off his ELC).

It would be different if we were a really deep team like Tampa. The Lightning can bring Sergachev into the NHL right away and give him shielded minutes becuase they have deep blue line. We on the other hand are extremely thin and not very good. We'd be throwing him to the wolves.

I would hope for a 2nd round pick, or and equivalent prospect from Toronto. Then at the trade deadline flip Marleau to a playoff team for another 2nd round pick. That's not bad for taking on a contract for five months.

Does Marleau waive his NMC to be traded again?

Anderson is not the same caliber as McAvoy, Makar and Hughes.

Best case scenario is probably a cup of coffee after the deadline and then hopefully competing for a spot in 20/21 as a 21 year old with 60+ games of pro experience

I say let the best players play. We have a new coach and newish system. Let him get up to speed with the core faster than in the AHL. And no matter where he plays this year (NHL or AHL) or any year after, he burns his ELC.

Skill wise no. But he doesn't play their style of Defense. Those guys are playing the Karlsson/Burns style and Anderson plays Chara style of Defense. But in all those tournaments they all played together or against...Anderson was right there just as good or better in some games

I think the way it works is once the NMC is waived, it's no longer in effect unless his new team wants to reinstate it.

No reason to not be up front with him though, and let him no he may be traded again. I wouldn't think they would ever send him down, so that shouldn't be an issue.

So, why would he waive it in the first place to come to the Kings?

The Kings have $14M in cap space. None of the players you mentioned are getting a big raise, with the outside exception of Kempe, and I would say 3-4 years at $3M a season would be in the ballpark for him. The Kings have plenty of cap space to take on Marlow for a season, or at least up until the trade deadline. Where it gets tricky is which players can be sent down without having to clear waivers.

I am fine with Marleau blocking a kid's roster spot next season up until the trade deadline.

The cap is not set at 83 million yet, some say it will be lower.
Kings had ~11 million in cap space before Dion's buyout when the speculation of the Marleu trade started.
Take on 6.250 million for Marleau will leave you with ~4.5 million to pay Kempe, Iafallo, Amadio, Roy, Lepsic? + UFA vet D ?
Trade Marleau at the deadline for additional assests, sure but will he waive his NMC again??

My point is I think the Kings wanted to send a contract back for Marleau + to have some flexability during the year.
The sweetner and the lack of flexability for the Kings is why the deal fell through.

It is well known that Marleau main reason for still playing is to get a cup before he retires The only way he wouldn't accept is somehow we are in the playoffs which is highly unlikely.

Even if the Kings are somehow in the playoffs hunt, we are not contenders.
Can we move him at the TDL with his NMC? That's a risk assessment that needs to be done before the trade goes down. I rather have the assets up front instead of gambling if we can get them at the TDL with him.

It depends on what Marleau would want. If he wants to for sure chase a cup kings would have a handshake agreement to trade him at deadline for whatever we can get. If he wanted to chase the playoffs here odds are he would have to be having a decent season and i would have no issues with him staying till the season ends In my world we make a good enough return with a 2nd in 2020 and a prospect Dmytro Timashov is worth him on the roster for a year for me.

I would take Marleau if the sweetener made it worthwhile. One year cap hit then we still have the sweetener asset

The Kings, for once, actually have the upper hand involving an old guy. They're not the team under pressure. They take him under their terms, or Toronto can try to find somewhere else to dump him, and there probably aren't many other places west enough that would.

I want to see:

Kupari, Luff, Anderson-Dolan, Anderson-Mikey (his new name) Matt Luff, Kale Clague, Daniel Brickley, and yes, Mike Amadio come to camp pumped and
in top condition physically and mentally with uber drive to take positions from veteran scrubs.

I would love to see Luff rise up and take Toffoli's spot, for one. And for Clague to take Forbort's spot. No entitlements!
