Pittsburghish
Had no idea but Hallander quietly having a very good session with 33 points in 48 games in the SHL- which leads his team. Wonder if you can get him back over. If not he’s probably decent trade sweetener.

Pretty poor management of a high-ish pick from the Pens.
The man signed a 5 year deal. He’s never coming back.

with the Russian factor after Simashev there's a big drop.
I’m kinda curious about Greentree. 6’2” 200 is an NHL build, he’s as offensively productive as you’d expect a 6-12th overall guy to be, and he’s already captain in Windsor, unusual for a 17 year old.

Some sites list him at 6’3” 211.

My "model" has the three new Canes prospects as varying levels of second liners as their ceilings. Floors are about the same too. Readiness is what really separates them.

edit to add:

This dude's model can be pretty shitty at times, so take these for what they are worth:

Koivunen by far intrigues me the most. Where are they in the penguin prospect hierarchy?

17 points his last 10 games.

I didn't notice he's Pieniniemi's teammate. That'll be easy to monitor.

Koivunen & Ponomaryov are in the "Pickering-tier" just behind Murashov, Blomqvist, and Yager.

Lucius is farther behind in the tier of the Plante and Foster. He's a bit farther back because the NCAA << AHL & Liiga. If he were dominating like more known/higher level NCAA prospects it'd even out a bit.

As it is now, K&P have a readiness in the 6's. L is 3.8.

Well Dubas took a shot here with a rental. Just guys to me who are not going to turn the ship around. Pens need prospects up the kazoo so with the draft and possible pick from a trade of Smith, that is a start. I do think Dubas will trade Rust when his NMC is gone. Karlsson will be traded next year either at the TDL or after the season. He will bring back a nice package as well.

I think Koivunen is ahead of Yager according to Button, but at a minimum he's top three. PONO while being more NHL ready doesn't have the same upiside. At least that's my early take on it.

for what it's worth the scouting reports from their draft year.
ville
SCOUTING REPORT
Shifty and clever stickhandler who can dangle his way hypnotizing the opposition while mulling on his options. Very capable of generating chances on offense by himself and linemates. Has good vision, passing ability, and excellent on the power play. Although he is working to improve his skating, but his skating stride is still wonky, but has a good wrister and is dangerous around the net. He is undersized and is easily push off the puck. In the 2019 World Junior Under-18 this left-handed right winger was the top scorer on the Finnish team. He debut in the Finnish U-20 league he started with 8 goals in 8 games and as of February 2021, has 19 goals and 41 points in 32 games.

SCOUTING REPORT
Russian import who arrived ready to be Shawingan's best player through his hard work at both ends. Well conditioned and able to consistently play at a high pace shift after shift. A good skater who is danger with every touch who can spin off checks and outmuscle bigger defender and unearth pucks on dump ins. Escapes contain, on the attack and is ready for rebounds in front. Works back to help out on defense. Excellent in the dot at tying up his opponent of the face-off circle.

Button always seems to view things differently than most, so with that caveat, I'll just note that he has Koivunen (35) ahead of two prospects people were hoping for in Fabian Lysell (48) and Jackson Blake (50).

Which serves as a decent reminder that nobody really knows what they're doing when it comes to projecting prospects who aren't immediately ready for the NHL. Guentzel himself is proof of that.

Certainly, it's not an exact science, but the more I hear about Koivunen, the less angst I feel.

The thing to take note of however, is the decided uptick in production. Almost doubling his totals in one season. He's only 20, so I'm encouraged.

Any d-men NCAA UFAs worth looking at? We’re a little thin on D especially guys in the system. Smith out, Shea, Ouellet, Fedun UFAs. Pickering and Collins coming in but Collins, who I like, might not be immediately AHL-ready. Assume they re-sign Rathbone & Samorukov, and maybe Ouellet returns to take over captaincy from Fedun. That’s still a couple openings, ideally for a RD or 2.

How common is it for 20 year olds to put up around PPG in the Finnish league? Is there a history of guys doing it who never really made it, or is it just guys who had long and quality NHL careers?

Just doing a little research, Sebastian Aho was PPG at 18, Donskoi had 48 in 59 at 22, Teravainen had 44 in 49 at 19, Granlund had 51 in 45 at 19 .... I think most of you would take Koivunen as a Teravainen or Granlund type.

Hextall's drafts quite possible could infuse some players very shortly in Broz and Belliveau.

Well... when comparing them to Rutherford's lol.

Button is a f***ing moron.
