Looks like Foster was on PP1 for Ottawa in their first game. They used him at 2C and 3LW in the preseason, then 2LW for the first real game (according to the lines sheet).

Collins playing 2nd pair in Sudbury

Nope, just a couple of the highlights, but he's apparently on the 3rd line LW.

I’m still somewhat cautious and wonder if he’s just in a perfect situation with Severstal where they’re not like SKA or CSKA that is so deep all the 18-19 year olds get buried (even Michkov is on loan to Sochi) but they’re not so terrible that they’re completely non-competitive. Him being a regular in his draft year always did bode well.

Yeah, Murashov, Ilyin, and Tankov are interesting but the difference in quality of competition is so wild that it's impossible to really know what the organization's got until they eventually come over to NA.

So far, so good though.

We have two years to sign Yager, not sure the motivation for not getting him signed yet. We currently have 48 guys under contract, not sure if that is the reason but I'd like to get him locked up.

Contract slides anyway. Wouldn't count against the limit.
I'm not worried we won't sign him. Im sure we will. Junior players seldom goes unsigned. I'm not sure what the rule is. But I'm pretty sure they can't just hold out and go FA like the college guys.

More pissed we didn't sign soto for free. He's tearing it up to start the season.

Anyone else think it’s a positive sign that Fraser Minten , a guy who wasn’t even really projected near where he was picked in the second round, is already pushing for a spot on the Leafs. Dubas knows how to draft man. Knies, Robertson , and now Minten , he’s finding gold in that second round. Hopefully after this last draft he cleaned house and can finally start cooking up some legit prospect platters for us.

On that score, so far, the answer is, "not really." Warren Young is no longer listed as a scout, but that's only scout that is no longer listed as being with the team from last year.

Dubas did add two more amateur scouts, and several more pro scouts, but that's about it.

On the other hand, Dubas has also vastly increased the Player Development staff, which, honestly, might have a bigger impact than new scouts in the long run.

Good to see Yager leaning back into his greatest asset this season - his shooting.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the Pens staff told him, look kid, your snap shot is lethal and we need you to become a top-6 goal scorer for us.

Was excited about that aspect when we brought in Dubas but we’ve kept Pryor and I don’t think we’ve really brought any of the Leafs amateur scouts in?

The thing is, he gets info from the scouts and Pens scouts are not Leafs scouts. It will be different here, he will rely on Pens scouts in the way he relied on Leafs scouts. Don't know how many scouts Pens have but more would be nice.

Dubas has a 7 year contract to do three things, have a roster that can win now. Get better role players in the bottom 6 to do that. Secondly bring in as much young talent as possible to help in the transition from the core. Lastly develop talent brought in to have players ready for the next post core team. Right now, the farm is not good enough and drafting for the next number of years has to be the plan. Dubas knows trading picks from here is not going to change the dynamic of the Pens. He did with karlsson but that was just to much of an opportunity to pass up.

Pens currently have:
2 Global Crossover Scouts (generally, these are scouts that come in to give additional looks at players/prospects identified by other scouts)
8 Amateur Scouts
3 European Scouts
1 European Amateur Scout
1 NCAA Personnel Scout
1 Special Assignment Scout (Kevin Stevens)
6 Pro Scouts
1 Pro Special Assignment Scout (Gilles Meloche)

At least, that's according to their staff page.

This is a fairly significant increase over the past. I think it was under Shero that the Pens only had 2 pro scouts, 2 European scouts, and something like 5-6 amateur scouts, and that was it.

I’m guessing we up those numbers a little more? No clue how many most teams have either.

I last took a look around the League several years ago (might even be as far back as the Shero years), so I don't know about now. Back then, the Pens were about average in terms of the size of their scouting staff. So the current size would be more than is typical, if those old numbers remained true (though I'll note that back then, the Leafs had one of, if not the largest scouting staff, so that would be more in line with what Dubas would be used to).

And spend to the cap too which is why I don't see the Pens ever fully bottoming out ala 1983 and whenever they did it in the early 2000's.
