And spend to the cap too which is why I don't see the Pens ever fully bottoming out ala 1983 and whenever they did it in the early 2000's.
that could quickly change, depending on what's happening on the ice and who'd coming through the jr ranks.

Interesting. Mark Pysyk has a stall in the locker room now. He didn’t yesterday.

He could be signed to a two-way deal and then be put on season-opening IR. Then he’d have no cap hit as long as he’s hurt. Different from LTIR.

Edit: Asked Mike Sullivan what's going on with Pysyk and he said that Pysyk is still injured and going through the rehab process but said he couldn't speak much to where he is contract-wise, and that it'd be a better question for Kyle Dubas.

Forwards Jordan Frasca, Ty Glover, Dillon Hamaliuk and Lukas Svejkovsky, as well as goaltender Taylor Gauthier have been reassigned by the Pittsburgh Penguins from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton to Wheeling.

Gauthier needs to play, so it makes sense for him to get reps in Wheeling.

And with all the vets/fringe players plus top prospects in WBS, they probably want the other guys to get more consistent playing time, too.

Let me ask you an honest question: is there like any organizational decision the Pens or the coaches have made, where you go “wtf, that was the totally wrong move?”

I crushed Hextall pretty regularly all last season for failing to fact on a clearly floundering bottom six. His inability to manage the cap and lack of action on the bottom six was downright negligent.

I wasn't happy about POJ being benched for Kulikov.

It's not the worst thing in the world, but I would have been fine moving on from Rust and said so when he was signed last year.

Couple GMs ago, but I hated the Ryan Reaves acquisition. Dumbest move of Rutherford's Penguins career.

It's sports. I don't really get angry or extremely emotionally invested. If I'm not enjoying myself, I just dial back my engagement.

Fair…I would prefer they give Gauthier split starts with Blomqvist in the A and send Hellberg to Wheeling…either of those younger goalies could be our future

You can spend to the cap and be absolute garbage by getting assets to take bad contracts. I hope FSG is willing to do that, but it’s gonna be tough when there’s like 5k in PPG every night.

Nah, Gauthier and Blomqvist aren't remotely close to being NHL ready, so you need to keep Hellberg sharp in case you need to call him up if Nedelkjovic or Jarry get hurt.

Gauthier's first pro season was last year and he played just 36 games. Blomqvist is in his first North American pro season. They're pretty green still.

The forwards (in that Tweet) that were sent to Wheeling better be at least a point per game. If not, I've got no hope for them at the NHL level.

Heck, Maniscalco was at a point per game in the ECHL as a defenseman.

Only having three forward lines should help. I kinda expect Svejkovsky to go off down there. Should be good to get 18+ minutes a game.

Wasnt Svej buzzing in WBS preseason? Remember seeing a tweet or two

Seems odd they would send him down while keeping some guys who are maybe ECHL material on their best days.

I get maybe keeping Rueschhoff around because he's so freakin' huge, not that he seems to be aware of that fact (Jamie Devane he ain't), but Joshua is no AHLer and Johnstone & Filipe are scrubs too; not quite "veterans" but definitely not prospects.

Even with all that the team *should* be interesting to watch this season, unlike last season, so I might spring for the AHLTV package again.

I think it has to do with roster balance. With so many veteran forwards, other guys are being pushed down the lineup. You'd rather have some of these guys getting better minutes than being on the fringe of the roster, so they have to go to Wheeling.

After relatively slow start Tankov scored 6 points in the last 3 games in VHL and is now 7+5 after 13 games.
Isn't that equivalent of the ECHL over there? Is that really saying much? Legitimate question.
