Don't get me wrong. I had hopes too for the Rangers, and I actually did believe they could take the Penguins.
I learn as I go. It really did become apparent to me in this series against a team that I do not think will even sniff the Stanley Cup, that the Rangers are just so out-classed.
I wouldn't say that they've been outclassed.
The Rangers have an inability to capitalize on their chances. We could see that coming from 5 miles away in a fog. All season they're biggest weakness was their offensive inefficiency. They couldn't hit the net or score consistently all year long. We were led to believe that they would eventually start posting up above average numbers to regress their totals to the mean... but that never happened.
Pitt has taken their opportunities and they've buried them. They didn't have that many opportunities last game, or even this game, but they buried the little that they got.
We had a 2 on 1, a 3 on 1, several powerplays, several break away passes that were completely airmailed... etc. We couldn't bury. They did.
That's not being outclassed, necessarily. That just means that our team isn't as efficient.
