The organization's mediocrity has been disguised since Sather [literally] struck gold in Lundqvist.

Neil Smith was fired after 3 straight seasons of no playoffs 98-2000...during his 11 seasons with us starting in 89-90 the Rangers won the presidents trophy in 92 and 94 and the cup in 94 along with 7 playoff appearances out of 11 seasons missing in 93,98,99,2000. We also went to the ECF in 97. Then Messier left and everything went to hell.

If Sather didn't land Lundqvist I believe he would have been gone as well a season or two after the lockout. After the lockout we were a bubble team with Jagr, Nylander, Straka and Henrik carrying the team. If we didn't land Henrik as the main goaltender I believed we would have struggled about the same as before the lockout, maybe a bit less with Jagr's great season in 06. That team during those years was average on defense... Sather was very fortunate in landing Henrik

Under Sather we made the playoffs in 8 out of his 13...YES 13 seasons here( we missed 01,02,03,04,10)....and the furthest we have went was to the ECF ONCE in 2012 with a bunch of 1st and 2nd round playoff exits usually never making those playoffs comfortably in the seasons before they started.....awwwweeesome!!!!

Since we won the cup in 94 the furthest we went was to the ECF in 97 and 2012 ...not even a SCF appearance!....**** Edmonton made it to the SC finals in less time in 2006 after winning with Messier in 90. They even took Carolina to 7 games that year and came close...The Rangers going 50 years between winning cups shouldn't be the norm...Going 20-30 years even to make a SCF appearance shouldn't be the norm....but it seems like it forever will be

1940 Champs ( playoffs missed 43-47 and 49)
1950 runners up ( then missing the next 5 straight playoff years 51-55...and missing the playoffs a total 12 times out of 16 seasons between 51 and 66)
1972 runners up ( playoffs missed in 76 and 77 )
1979 runners up ( playoffs missed in 88 and 93 )
1994 Champs ( playoffs missed 98 - 2004 and 2010 )

pathetic...

I'm talking about making moves that would indicate an organizational shift.

Significant transactions.

Package any 2 of Girardi, Staal, Stepan, Hagelin, J. Moore.

Let Stralman walk.

Trade Nash at the draft

Buy out Richards.

The guys I would target are guys that skate very well. Guys that look to engage physically. Compliment those guys with a few talened FA's like a Stastny.

The two guys I would target and press for are Evander Kane and Dustin Byfuglein.

A one-two punch of Kreider and Kane on the LW would be nice.

Having Big Buff point shot on the PP would be a dangerous weapon. I would also employ him as a RW'er.

See what the Ducks would want for Smith-Pelley

Generally speaking, I just do not like the overall make up of this team, and right now, I want 90% of them gone.

I should just stop typing and let the disappointment fade.

First change that needs to happen is Sather saying Bye-Bye.
Hire a new GM and start rebuilding the scouting/farm.
