This remains true for every team. The Kings from two years back are perhaps the most extreme example in the positive direction, but it's also one of the reasons why the Penguins haven't been able to get back to the SCF recently. They have had a habit of peaking in the last two months of the regular season, then finding the other end of that once the playoffs start.

The Rangers were pretty hot post-Olympic break, minus one 10-day hiccup. Is that what happened here? Did they peak too early?

I don't think so. I actually thought they were peaking at the exact right time.

And I think they even got the two match ups that they should have wanted.

It shouldn't be an excuse, but injuries killed the momentum of this team. McD's injury killed the solid play of the defense.

Kreider's killed the solid momentum of Nash and forced AV into making a rash super line decision that killed the offensive balance that we had. The super line failed, and as a result our top players lost confidence or went cold or whatever you want to call it.

It is what it is.

Against the Flyers, I was adamant that the Rangers were the better team. To me, it was obvious that the losses the Rangers incurred were because they did not assert themselves and play their own style, which was defence through puck possession via a strong forecheck.

Even if we think the Penguins are not the greatest defensive team, they are much better than the Flyers.
Perhaps the Rangers did peak, but I truly believe playoff hockey from a better team is what has happened to the Rangers in Round 2. Against the Flyers, the fact they let it go to 7 games showed a bit of what we feared, which is a team that is nowhere near a threat to go deep.

Blame Lundqvist after a game where his defense failed him - classic.

Hank is the only liable man on this team. If you blame him, you should try to put your phone down during the game or go get yourself a new pair of glasses.

I really looked up on the rangers coming into these playoffs...

- the 4th line had the most energy by a very slim margin

- Power play is still not working ... big no no.

- Players look exhausted... too much "one guy trying to take over the game" instead of playing like a team

- EVERYONE is afraid to shoot.. this is the biggest problem

- Lastly, everyone looks like they are playing Torts hockey. not coincidentally, the ones that don't are the ones that were never coached by him

- MSL's confidence has been shattered... it's gone, completely. he looks awful

- McD should have been sat for everything after game 1... he looks destroyed, and quite frankly he should have just gotten surgery...

- Nash needs to SERIOUSLY be considered by this organization to see if he has a future here... Because if he doesn't and he doesn't want to be here, then we need to look into moving him... I'm not sure if it's injury, or coaching, or just laziness on his part (I presume this to be honest), but he looks like he's doing aaaaalllllmmooostt enough, but never actually doing it... it's like the guy that keeps getting passed up for a promotion because there's always another one better than him

- NO OFFENSE FROM THE BLUELINE and not enough center depth is really the problem here... everything else is better than average, but those two things are killing us. Follow that up with our LW being incredibly weak (Poo and Kreider are OK, but the former is a 3rd liner, forcing Hagelin to be a 2nd liner, killing offense on that line regardless of the speed and puck retrieval ability of Hags)

They are certainly not playing with the motivation and heart that was a hallmark of Torts hockey, thats for sure.

Playing a lot of ****** teams that let this limited Ranger team waltz down the middle of the ice helped.

People want to trade to get ovi? No thanks...I'd rather try to get E. Staal he's a big piece to our puzzle

Brad Richards is a big piece to our puzzle.

Rick Nash is a big piece to our puzzle.

Martin St. Louis is a big piece to our puzzle.

No more trades for star players, no more trying to build the top end of the team through FA. Please. Eric Staal would just end up as the most recent NY bust, while we give up more valuable assets to flounder in the second round.

....and its not just those things. Not even close.

Kreider's injury caused Nash, MSL, Stepan, and Richards to turn into **** sandwiches? Please.

Well people say we need this to win or that to win blah blah blah... Staal is a power forward #1 center.. we need him

Just wanna say, ever since you stopped being a moderator, I've enjoyed your posts. Another good one as well. Right on.

At this point, I think this organization needs to clean house completely. I think AV has done a good job, and that the lack of success is far from his, or any other recent coaches' faults, but I'd rather rid the team of Slats' finger prints.

Then again, I'd rather have a select few HFers running the team than what we have right now...

They battled harder than this team.

That was the worst post-lockout playoff gave I've ever seen the Rangers play, no question about it.

The worst post-lockout playoff game I've seen the Rangers play was game 4 against the Devils in 2012. I also thought game 3 against the Bruins last year was just as bad as this one. And beyond that, I don't even think this is the worst game they've played in this series. Distance softens the edges of things, though.

Can't clean house when you have a goalie making 8 ******million cap hit

For the record, I was behind all three of those moves at the time they went down, so I'm no Nostradamus...but, at this point, the organization really needs to focus on building the team from within, like they did around ~08/09ish. They've gotten away from that ever since finishing in 1st.

I don't care what name becomes available. Unless it's in a swap for another big name (cough Nash cough), we need to STEER CLEAR (read: Eric Staal, Jason Spezza).
