I don't think you realize that they wanted to get rid of Petry. They didn't care about return of assets. But they need veteran D because of the youth on the backend coming up. Edmundson is probably gonna be traded sooner rather than later. After that, you have nothing but kids, inexperienced, and Savard

We get a younger defenseman with a lower AAV that's coming off a career year, meanwhile Petry's coming off his worst season since he hit his 30's. Not to mention he was absolutely brutal to watch the majority of the year.

Stop with the garbage. Petry was fine once Ducharme was gone.

Looks like some Pens fans think losing Matheson is bad, and habs fans think getting him is bad. Time will tell. Not a good looking trade from the initial impression though.

The problem with this trade is that we barely save any cap space.
Unless Matheson is being shipped this summer in a trade for PLD, this does not make much sense.

This trade isn't nearly as bad as people are portraying, nor is it really any good. It's some cap savings with both Petry and Poehling gone and a warm veteran body who can play acceptably. A bleh trade that was needed. It only becomes awful if you were still holding out hopes of a 1st+ for Petry in this market.

Well.. I mean.. patches literally just went for nothing... not a thing. Is it a disappointment in terms of return? Yeah compared to deadline trades... the land scape has changed and capspace is worth more than almost everything else at this point .. clearly this is the best he could get at this point.. if someone was offering more.. he would have taken it. Sucks... but I think the reality of this situation .. hopefully, this was "worth it" to clear out the couple mil of cap because something else is coming.

Matheson is a good dmen better than Petry was last year plus only 28 years old.

Coming off the best year of his career.

I would have loved the trade if it was just Petry but don’t really like the free throw in of Poehling.

Poehling is a nothing piece I won't worry much about that loss.

petry for matheson is bad though. Unless they think playing in his hometown will help Matheson reach another level.
