Matheson is a lowkey top pair defenseman. Take it from a Rangers fan I’m glad the Pens don’t have him anymore. Elite skater, can throw big hits, and is very good in transition. He’s really not as bad as people think, hasn’t been bad since he left Florida

I don't understand why they would take Matheson back. Hughes said a Petry trade would help them free up space for future years but Matheson is locked up for 4 years.

Not a fan of this trade. Matheson signed for 4 more years, Petry 3. The point of a salary dump is to actually dump salary lol.

Teams traded away better dman for less.

Habs take on a lower cap hit, but have it for an extra year. With the reduced salary and Poehling being traded, they save about 2.5

I get that Mike Matheson has some qualities the Habs are looking for, but does he play the right side at all?

If not, this trade in isolation doesn't make sense? The habs are stacked with LHD prospects, but very slim on the right side. Trading Petry makes that worse if Matheson is strickly a LHD.

Apparently I'm the only person that doesn't hate the trade
We get a younger defenseman with a lower AAV that's coming off a career year, meanwhile Petry's coming off his worst season since he hit his 30's. Not to mention he was absolutely brutal to watch the majority of the year.
