That makes sense that the return disappointed people if that was what they had envisioned.

But the truth is, Hughes said this is what would happen. He did say that if he would trade Petry, he'd go out and get another vet D to replace him in the line-up and be able to take those minutes rather than just throw one of the young D there and ruin their development if they're not ready yet.

He just ended up doing both in the same deal.

I'm glad the whole Petry saga is over so we can focus on something else. It also leaves a spot for someone who actually wants to be here, I think that's important. It was never a good idea to wait and wait with a guy who made it clear he didn't want to be in Montreal anymore and there's no guarantee he would have bounced back considering we're going to ice a putrid roster again this season.

I'll wait before commenting on Matheson, let's see what he can offer. Not sad to see Poehling go either, he's a nothing player.

If he sucks he won't a good mentor.

At any rate, there are many signs pointing to him being good - including that HuGo wanted him.

So I'm hoping for the best. No need to discuss further another scenario than him succeeding.

At this point i was not expecting much if he still wanted to be traded asap. We don't know all the details but if Petry did ask to be traded before the season starts and KH wanted to honor that then he had for sure 0 value. My main problem is we get a contract that is equally as bad. If KH can move Matterson before the end of his contract for something then fine but at the moment i would have preferred to trade Petry for future consideration like Vegas did with Patch. We did not need to add any vets we already have Savard, Edmonson and Wideman we could have signed any plugs vets for less than Matterson.

He scored 9 goals on the 4th line on the worst team. Was he tried at LW on the top 6? He’s 23 6’2 203 lbs, fast, physical, good on the boards.

Not really, to be honest, he has all the tools to get 40 points.

Solid shot elite skating. With more PP minutes he could get there without a doubt.

...not a hero at all, amigo, just always wanted to serve (that and my dreams of being the next Ken Dryden were foiled by my terrible skating and gigantic 5-hole)...I do very much appreciate the sentiment (unfortunately can't drink anymore either...on pain meds for severe nerve damage that react severely with alcohol)...have one for me!!...:thumbu:

...and he still hasn't really progressed at all since being drafted...how much time were we to give him that he didn't deserve??...:dunno:

...why did he deserve to play on the Top Line when he could hardly compete for a roster spot years after his draft??...should we call back Hudon or Leblanc and offer them a chance to play with Suzfield as well, since they never got their chance??...:dunno:

Hudon and Leblanc were useless. Poehling has size and tools. Watch and see, we will regret this.

...I'm 6'7 and had "tools"...I was still a horrible goalie due to shyte equipment (early-mid 80's)...oh, yeah, and terrible skating...and a five-hole where you could park a pickup...MAJOR flaws are still major flaws and Poehling has a few...

At some point in the season last year i thought they would’ve tried him because they tried anderson, hoffman, pitlick and circled back to anderson, even armia had a game with them but yes, i agree i would have liked to see him with them even for a game.

But i also think Dach is already better in the middle and a player like Heineman has chance to be better on the wing pretty easily
