Now that we got rid of Petry.....we now need to get rid of Matheson.

The point in Petry trade was supposed to get some capspace in return....we didn't, still need to get rid of bad contracts and Matheson is part of it......for longer.

Hugues: we need to make room on the salary cap.

*trades for Matheson that has a longer contract that is buyout proof*

WTF HUGHES YOU HAD ONE JOB!!!
Petry’s cap hit was on the verge of being unmoveable. Look at his age. If he puts up another mopey dopey year we are cooked and stuck.

Matheson was actually decent last year.

He's nothing special and worse than Petry (except the Petry at the start of last year) but he's a decent puck mover who can skate and is moderately physical. Our defense is absolutely trash on paper now though.

Again, people forgot how bad Petry was last season.
Pretty sure Matheson is an improvement.
Still this trade is not making much sense. We wanted to get rid of Petry's salary.

It's why I was worried earlier this week when Hughes mentionned that he wanted NHL players in return for Petry....sheesh no we did not need more salary...especially for longer than Petry's contract.

Petry had a negative effect on the team. He lost his teammates respect. He couldn’t play for the habs again.

Just makes no sense.

Matheson who is bad defensively for 4 more years at 5M$.
Because you have to get rid of Petry who has 6.2 per for 3 years
While losing Poehling, a 1st rounder

I'm...stunned. I understand it's all about Bergie insanely poor asset management....but Hughes wasn't even able to look bad doing it. That's just beyond mediocre.

I wouldn't call it buyout proof, it's just got a lot of term left so the buyout would be 8 years, 2.25 on the cap for the first 3 years, down to 1.37 for the last 4.

I guess they think Matheson finally put it together and will give us 4 solid years...

Still an underwhelming trade.

Feels like we paid to acquire Matheson...

Poehling as a throw in, is a risk most team would take. Sure, he's definitely not a complete player yet, but he's young, quite fast and has the potential to be a cheap 3/4C.

I'm honestly disappointed he's thrown into a deal like this.

He was just going to end up on waivers. He had no future here and probably no real market.
