Pierre Luc Dubois - What's the allure?

I remember when the Habs played the Jets during the Covid year of the cup run. Dubois was so damn invinsible playing against his hometown childhood team. Literally no life, nothing. That's a shame cause he has literally all the tools to be a Neely-type power forward type. I think he is just...content. I know he hated playing under Tortorella but remember when Torto unleashed on him and Dubois scored three goals the next game? I am afraid that is what he needs, a torturer on his back all the time to whip him and get him out of his state of "live and let live" mindset. Torto was on Vinny's back in Tampa too early on and it made Vinny a better player.
Injured, apparently.

Incredible tool set (size, skill, and skating), but he's always chafed at being where he didn't want to be at that exact moment.

In theory, he's where he'd have chosen to be, and he's being well compensated in LA on a max term deal. I think people are interested to see if that finally unlocks his peak, since he's spent a lot of his career to date seeming to give less than he has in the tank.

He has given people plenty of reason for skepticism, of course. He's now got to shut up his many detractors by raising his game to a new level. If he doesn't do it, people are going to rip him, for sure.

Plot twist

He's gotten money, cozy matchups, and a place he wants to be

It's changed nothing

Just under a 50 point pace right now.

I think LA fans were expecting a 60 ish point pace

His goal pace is slightly off where it should be but still a 20+ goal pace.

Let's review at the half way mark.

Has he been that bad in LA? Damn.
No. He's playing exactly how he has always played. He's right at his career average. There are Kings fans that thought he was going to be a PPG player or some such nonsense when he's never been close to that in his career.

This is not about points, but actual play.

As a Kings fan, hes good when he’s trying which is 5 percent of the time he’s on the ice. The other 95 he’s floating.

Correction: Scott Stevens was the scariest man in the league.

As a representative of Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy, Scott Stevens has done more for our cause among hockey players than any other. His raised shoulders and elbows to the head will provide lovely homes for our disease in the coming decades. We thank the NHL Department of Player Safety for their continued support to not do a damn thing.

Not that 14 games is a end all, be all, but this makes feel reassured when I was hoping Montreal would pass.

Though, just looking at his pace he should be a little bit better.

Maybe it's complacency, maybe he's born with it.

His allure has been real or perceived availability. It makes people want to believe he is more than he actually is when they are desperately looking for a center.

Can't say that I'm surprised too bad for the Kings but you guys have enough great prospects to make up for it.

He is big and can use his size at times. Moves with agility when needed. I just think the fit hasn't been great. Not a bad player but not at his current price and at the expense of Vilardi. His biggest asset to the Kings is that he is a center.

He and Fiala both could have about five more points on near misses. I think he can get to 60 points at least this season but if he can be a complete center he will be valuable, especially in the playoffs if they get there.

PLD at his best when he gives a shit is easily a PPG player who wins his matchups, is physical, a wrecking ball on the ice that lays the body, agitates opponents and draws penalties.

It is not unreasonable for LA fans to expect that player every night now that he is playing where he wants to be and is being paid like a top player. He has flirted with PPG and legit 1C performances in both Columbus/Winnipeg, it just doesn't show in the season long stats as he didn't sustain it over a season and most of us assumed it was because his give a shit factor was unreliable due to not wanting to play in Columbus/Winnipeg.

Maybe it's maybelline
giphy.webp

This is pretty close.

CBJ and Jets fans saw both of these PLD's fairly regularly.

When he's on, he's Eric Lindros. When he's off, he's just a mid level 2C.
What? Do you mean Eric Lindros today? Because he's NOWHERE near what Eric Lindros was.

Chris Gratton and Chad Kilger are closer comparables.

Dubois can play effective big man hockey. I know, as a Kings fan I have already seen it twice. Same shift, one game, but who needs details like that...

Not defending him here but I also think his skating stride doesn't do him any favors

Even when he's actually hauling ass I don't think he has any movement above the knees haha
