Pierre Luc Dubois - What's the allure?

The league is full of 6’4, 225 pound, 60 point minimum, 2 way power forward 2c’s? Damn, I hope the leafs pick one up then.
I’m sure you’d be absolutely ecstatic if Leafs picked up a 6’4, 225 pound, on pace for 0,53PPG with 70% OZS, 9 hit, 2 way power forward for 8,5M$

He takes too many stupid penalties and whines a lot. He thinks he's a superstar but in reality he's just a good hockey player that can play in the NHL and produce regularly.

Having watched him in WPG for a couple years, his issue has always been consistency. When he's on his game, he's as the NFL would say, a "Game Wrecker" for the opponent. Very valuable player to have when he's like that. But too often, he disappears for stretches, I assume partially due to the style he plays..........can't really play like that 82 games a year, and have a long career.

Leg snapped in half.

His size and weight is really irrelevant, he’s definitely not a two way Center, he could be absolutely lazy and disinterested on the defensive end, and I like how you say 60 point minimum when he’s already 25 years old and 63 points remains his career high. Face it you’re going to get a guy that looks like the best player on the ice one night, then invisible for the next three games.

You said they were a dime a dozen but if they were, surely they wouldn’t have been so eager to sign PLD to an 8.5x8.

He’s 1-2m overpaid but I’d rather him as a 2C even at 8.5 than Tavares at 11. So basically, yeah.

I wasn’t the one who said it.

Well, i guess Maple Leafs fans sure are happy you’re not in charge of the team lol

Friedman said he heard from a GM about his playoff series against the leafs.

He said that was mentioned numerous times to him as looking what he can do

Wasn’t that the Covid year?

Yea - season was paused and then resumed.

The allure is that he's an absolute beast. Unfortunately, he spends a lot of time on IR much like the guys he's been traded for, Laine and Vilardi.

Last season on the Jets board I was unfairly accused of being a PLD hater for calling out his inconsistent play by other Jets fans who thought the Jets should trade Scheifele and instead build around PLD. This season he has been worse than even I could have ever predicted. Usually his "meh" stretches are punctuated by a bunch of good games where he looks like a hockey god but so far and I have seen about half of the Kings games the good stretches haven't shown up.

Interestingly one of my main criticism towards him used to be that he feasts on the PP and is just OK at 5v5 esp over a season long sample where he just averages out as an OK 2nd line C in his 5v5 scoring. This season though it seems his PP production has completely disappeared. Kings should get him on the PP1 as he's always been a good PP producer. I also wonder if that is playing a part in his overall play. When he left Columbus, one of the reasons rumored was that "he wants to be on the big stage"- so I wonder if he's upset about being shoved onto the 2nd PP unit which barely gets icetime and being made to play with a rookie and a 4th liner at Even Strength and that is leaking into his overall play.

I actually don't fully blame him for his play this season. His linemates have been pretty rough and the rookie that has been stapled on his RW since the beginning of the season is one of those players who always look like they are doing some thing on the ice, looking busy, shooting and staking around but nothing ever happens when it ultimately comes to putting the puck in the net.

He also aligned with Kaliyev and Fiala a lot this season.

He also has the second highest offensive face off starts among forwards. Fifth highest powerplay time on the team. Virtually zero PK time.

How many more accommodations need to be made for him to perform better than a 36-point pace for an $8.5 million cap hit?

Maybe he has a bad first year who knows he is adjusting but i think he ends up doing better than he is currently lol

They gave a child who kept throwing fits basically everything he wanted, what did they think would happen?

AAAA player at best. At least he's better than Ville Leino when he was here.

Yeah. The bubble. Literally the phoniest hockey the NHL has ever produced in it's history. A best of 5 playoff round after a 5 month layoff with one warm-up game. The last preseason game is more indicative of reality than that.

I didn't love the trade for LA when it happened. I felt like they traded a lot of pieces that were effective and annoying in the playoffs for a guy who disappeared all of the time & is cap prohibitive. But he's better than this, obviously. He'll have better days ahead as a King if they don't poison the well.

He's fine. It's not about the points, it's about the player's happiness. A culture where the player is more important than say the GM...that's a culture that will win
