Montreal didn't have the assets CHI wanted last year for Dach, so they found a third team, and moved what they did have for what CHI wanted.

I wonder if MTL can do the same here.

Maybe they're looking to replace Dach because Hughes has put him on the table for Dubois

I hope not.

The point - that you ignored to bring up Dach again (let it go) - is if the Jets are stupid enough to want to retool as opposed to rebuild maybe Montreal can acquire a player they want from a third team, and use him in a PLD trade.

Was the cap not growing at the time of the Marleau deal?

Not nearly as much as it will after this next season is over.

I believe Marleau was traded in 2019. Cap was only growing around $2M annually prior to Covid derailing things.

After this next season, expect the cap to grow close to $90M. Extra team in the NHL creating revenue now too and Vegas has become a top 10 NHL market.

Teams will get cap tight again but it will take a few years after next season IMO. Not saying the Monahan/Marleau situation won't happen but they will be more rare

Danault has never been and will never be better then Dubois cmon now theres a reason one is paid 5.5 and the other will earn around 8.5

Im not saying Phil is bad i like him he was a big part of the reason we made the finals but PLD has always been the better player

We can agree to disagree.

There's no question in my mind that I will take the 50+ point centre with the exemplary 200 foot game over the the 60+ point forward without it.

Maybe next year Dubois passes him, maybe in a few years, but right now, there's no contest in my mind that Danault would be your better second line centre. It's not close for me right now at all.

You're a troll. The Jets mods that have run this thread are biased.
It would make a lot of sense. Trade Dach for PLD and run him and Suzuki down the middle. Trade some futures for (say) Lafreniere to play on his wing

If he did that, the team just got WAY better, quickly. Add whoever you pick 5OA in a couple of years and you're good to go (if you can find a goalie)

LA better come up with more scratch here to outbid MTL.

If I was to guess, Hughes has his hands in a lot of trade chatter and he might be trying to get that NHL piece from another team in another trade so he can then use it in the Dubois trade.

Kind of like the Romanov for 13th and then flipped for Dach trade. Blackhawks were interested in picks, not Romanov. It's the reverse with the Jets, they appear to be looking for NHL players now.

I'm pretty sure that is what Gorton/Hughes is doing at the moment. They will try to use the futures they have on the table for the Dubois trade with another team to get Vilardi types and then trade that for Dubois.

Dubois is offensively a better player.

Your argument is flawed though.

1) PLD is not worth $8.5M

2) Danault’ defense is top notch and the contract he signed was pretty much based on that. With his last two seasons in the pocket it might have have been $1.5M more.

Throughout this topic it actually looks like you are extremely butthurt about Danault for whatever reason. Why would you care on what line he will be playing next season.

Craig Button on Dubois... he believes Montreal should do what it takes to get him.

"You want to be a competitive team. What are you going to do? Wait three years until your window opens? Your window and opportunity is right now! The Montreal Canadiens should be all over this."

On compensation cost and whether it makes sense to trade Dach for Dubois:

"You're getting a better player. It's EXACTLY what Vegas did. They moved players in and then they moved players out. Pierre-Luc Dubois is a better player than Kirby Dach. So if that's the price to get Pierre-Luc Dubois, the better player, that's the price! You can't sit here and talk about being competitive. You want your young players to be in an environment where they have a chance to win."

But according to the tweet you quoted, Winnipeg doesnt want futures and thats all Montreal has to offer.

Games or not, doesnt sound like Winnipeg had interest in making the deal with Montreal anyway
Of course it is a 2 way street. Both sides have to agree to something.

Winnipeg is certainly willing to trade Dubois to Montreal but Montreal does not want to trade the pieces Winnipeg wants. Maybe in the next few days one team changes their stance.

Crazy to think that you make your team better by adding better players

If it were Dach for Schiefele, I'd understand the hesitancy

Maybe if Montreal flipped Dvorak, Kidney and Florida’s 1st for Vilardi, you’d have another chip to barter with in the Dubois sweepstakes.

Or, you can give us the big, dumb kid from Fort Saskatchewan (Dach) with some plusses.

That's why he is spouting nonsense on TSN and posting bad draft rankings instead of being in another GM or head of hockey operations job.

Your own arguments are why Montreal should avoid Dubois unless it is free or doesn't hurt. You say Montreal has no good players or prospects, so exactly why would Dubois be important or make any difference to the rebuilld? He can be a complimentary player on a good team, not a difference maker on a bad one.
