Craig Button on Dubois... he believes Montreal should do what it takes to get him.

"You want to be a competitive team. What are you going to do? Wait three years until your window opens? Your window and opportunity is right now! The Montreal Canadiens should be all over this."

On compensation cost and whether it makes sense to trade Dach for Dubois:

"You're getting a better player. It's EXACTLY what Vegas did. They moved players in and then they moved players out. Pierre-Luc Dubois is a better player than Kirby Dach. So if that's the price to get Pierre-Luc Dubois, the better player, that's the price! You can't sit here and talk about being competitive. You want your young players to be in an environment where they have a chance to win."

See video in below link:

The same Craig Button that traded a young Giguere for a 2nd round pick to protect Brathwaite? There’s a reason he’s unemployed.

He paced for 60 points? Why are you lying? You think your exaggeration helps your argument?

The only reason some of us are throwing Dach’s name out there is because he is the ONLY NHL roster player not recently signed to an 8 year contract that has value… which, quite frankly, is a sad commentary about where Montreal is right now.

Fact is Winnipeg fans are trying to get a younger version of Dubois, which won't happen, and then some.

Habs are not going to trade a 6'3 220lbs C for an older version of a similar player who'll sign for 8 or 9 M

But he slows the rebuild by helping win more games, if he is any good, resulting in worse draft picks.
The whole point of a rebuild is to get players who will help you win games. If you don't do this you are not rebuilding.

Dubois is offensively a better player.

Your argument is flawed though.

1) PLD is not worth $8.5M

2) Danault’ defense is top notch and the contract he signed was pretty much based on that. With his last two seasons in the pocket it might have have been $1.5M more.

Throughout this topic it actually looks like you are extremely butthurt about Danault for whatever reason. Why would you care on what line he will be playing next season.
Huh? why the hell would i be butthurt about Danault Lol me saying Danault back to the third line was a joke between Habs fans we have from when Phil was with us complaining about playing on the third line thats why i had the sarcasm emoji Danault hasnt been with us in 2 years and i didnt even wanna re-sign him so no im not butthurt about him i actually like him

That's why he is spouting nonsense on TSN and posting bad draft rankings instead of being in another GM or head of hockey operations job.

Your own arguments are why Montreal should avoid Dubois unless it is free or doesn't hurt. You say Montreal has no good players or prospects, so exactly why would Dubois be important or make any difference to the rebuilld? He can be a complimentary player on a good team, not a difference maker on a bad one.

Button’s argument is that Dubois is the better player and adding better players will help your young players develop in an environment that is more conducive to winning.

Some of the very long rebuilds are from teams that didn’t develop many of their young players properly and I would assume it is defeating to play on a losing team for a number of years.

Eichel didn’t like it. He got out and then won a Stanley Cup.

So, that’s the logic for not meandering around for years hoping for young players to flourish in a losing environment.

He also checks the box "LHD", which immediately disqualifies him as someone the Jets would want

Harris is LHD, which WPG has in abundance..thus he checks no needed boxes for us

Jets have a glut on LHD and Harris is not a player that would be a center piece in a Dubois trade.

You’re absolutely entitled to keep Dach over Dubois. I am just curious why Hughes is circling back to the Jets if he doesn’t have any desirable roster pieces to give up.

Really, I can’t see a trade with Montreal unless Dach is coming back.

Sounds like we have a bunch of them already. LHD is that last thing we need. When can Habs fans understand this???

Craig Button is a senile mouthpiece who craves airtime to make himself seem important. Hardly anything he says makes sense, which is why he's not working in the league somewhere.

And its all good, our offer won't change tho.

Habs won't trade Dach for PLD as he is trending to become a similar player as PLD, but for 3M$.

Jets don't get to get a do-over of PLD. Not from a Habs POV. If they'd rather have Villardi, fine by us. Habs fans have been adamant thay unless we get Dubois for piece we don't care to trade (surplus, later picks), we are happy to wait.

And until a deal is signed with the LAK, Jets fans shouldn't jump and scream victory. For all we know maybe PLD won't sign with LA and LA offer will drop to Turcotte and a 2nd for PLD as a rental...

Maybe if Montreal flipped Dvorak, Kidney and Florida’s 1st for Vilardi, you’d have another chip to barter with in the Dubois sweepstakes.

Or, you can give us the big, dumb kid from Fort Saskatchewan (Dach) with some plusses.
Jesus Christ dude imagine being so emotionally invested in a hockey team and feeling the need to reply with dumb takes all over the thread.

We can agree to disagree.

There's no question in my mind that I will take the 50+ point centre with the exemplary 200 foot game over the the 60+ point forward without it.

Maybe next year Dubois passes him, maybe in a few years, but right now, there's no contest in my mind that Danault would be your better second line centre. It's not close for me right now at all.
i can respect that

if thats the case then i guess LAK can put Dubois on the wing for a year until Kopitar retires dont see PLD playing 3rd line minutes

Harris easilly cracks the Jets top6.

He'd a better D then Heinola, stanley, schmidt and similar upside to Samberg.

He'd play on the Jets defense for sure.
